Chapter 65

Although Lisa was impulsive and had a short fuse, Leonard knew she was not the type to attack people randomly.

Lisa sneered, “Does it make a difference why I hit her? Would any of you even understand? In your world, those with higher status are always right.”

She did not believe Leonard, and he disgusted her. In addition, her face still hurt from the bruise he gave her.

‘Is he being sincere?’ Lisa wondered. ‘He seems to believe the problem will disappear if he buys me gifts and brings me back. There’s a good chance he doesn’t know what an apology sounds like.’

Leonard paused. He did not realize he had left such an impression on Lisa.

“Lisa, I’m the only one who can help you now. You’re smart, so don’t risk your future for a momentary impulse. Think about how this will impact your parents.”

Those words struck a chord with Lisa. Her eyes flickered, revealing a hint of pain.

After taking statements, the officer approached them to provide a comprehensive explanation. “Tonight was Ms. Madison’s birthday party, and her friend from France shipped her a birthday cake. Ms. Celine was the delivery person assigned to deliver the cake from the airport to the event hall.

“However, Ms. Madison treated Ms. Celine disrespectfully and refused her access to the elevator. Ms. Celine had to carry the cake and climb to the 50th floor.”

Leonard’s frown deepened as gloominess flickered in his eyes.

Madison nervously said, “I paid her for the delivery service, so I can request how I want it done. Besides, delivery people often interact with people and touch various surfaces.

“It raises the risk of them transmitting diseases. Since elevators are enclosed spaces, they’re especially vulnerable to these

risks.”

The officer’s frustration became clear. “She climbed fifty floors! Ms. Celine endured twenty minutes without rest while drenched in sweat. Ms. Madison even berated her on the phone for her slowness and threatened to report her.

“Unfortunately, Ms. Celine felt so rushed that she knocked the glass doll on the cake askew. Upon reaching the event hall, Ms. Madison demanded compensation for the cake, claiming it cost 150,000 dollars.

“Since Ms. Celine couldn’t afford it, they forced her to drink four bottles of whiskey as payment. Ms. Lisa is a friend of Ms. Celine, who waited downstairs and grew anxious when Ms. Celine didn’t return, so Ms. Lisa went looking for her.

“Ms. Lisa found Ms. Celine in terrible shape after the latter consumed two bottles of whiskey. Upon learning the circumstances, Ms. Madison and her friends gave Ms. Lisa an ultimatum—either drink the remaining two bottles on Ms. Celine’s behalf or pay the 150,000 dollars.

“Ms. Lisa chose to pay, but Ms. Madison was unsatisfied and demanded another 150,000 dollars for alleged losses. Distressed, Ms. Lisa smashed the cake on Ms. Madison’s face, which quickly escalated into a physical altercation between the two groups.” “That’s nonsense!” Madison anxiously looked at her brother and Leonard, saying, “Quince, it’s not like that. Lisa saw her friend drinking and smeared the cake on my face. My friends can testify.”

“Yes, Madison’s right. That delivery girl and her friend went too far,” one of her friends quipped.

“Enough! Our colleagues have already taken Ms. Celine’s statement at the hospital,” the police officer said with irritation. “Ms. Celine drank two bottles of whiskey, which almost gave her alcohol poisoning. She even resorted to cutting her arm with the glass to remain conscious. Despite the pain, Ms. Celine waited until we finished recording her statement.

“If Ms. Lisa hadn’t arrived in time, Ms. Celine would have been forced to consume four bottles of whiskey in a row. It could’ve been fatal.”

One of Madison’s friends exclaimed, “That delivery girl is conspiring with her friend! She’s lying!”

The officer responded, “Our colleagues have already checked the surveillance footage at the event hall.”

Suddenly, everyone fell silent.

A voice from the crowd chimed in, “So what if Madison is wrong? That woman is just a delivery person.” Leonard shot that person a frigid glare, and they immediately paled with fear.
