Chapter 27

Leonard suspected the coffee shop owner had the same purpose.

“Leonard, it’s not what you think,” Benedict explained, “I’ve looked into it, and this coffee shop has a student from the Conservatory of Music working part-time as a planist. However, the student takes Wednesdays off, so she comes to cover for

him.”

“All right. If you like her, go for it,” Leonard said, raising an eyebrow after sipping his coffee. He had to admit the coffee tasted excellent.

Benedict stood up, ready to approach her, when a voice greeted her from the entrance. A man with a refined and handsome appearance walked in.

“Hey, bro!” Benedict waved eagerly.

Christopher heard the voice and looked over, slightly puzzled. Then he walked toward them, saying, “What a coincidence.”

“A coincidence indeed.” Leonard smiled. “When did you get back? Why didn’t you tell us?”

“I’ve been back for half a year, but sadly, I’ve been swamped. I’ll treat you guys to dinner someday,” Christopher said as he shook everyone’s hands.

“How about tonight?” Quince said enthusiastically, “Let’s have a midnight snack together.”

“Not tonight, I’m afraid-” Before Christopher finished speaking, a delicate arm wrapped around him, and a voice asked, ” Honey, are these your friends?”

‘Honey?’

Everyone was startled. The atmosphere turned somewhat awkward. The woman with her arm around Christopher’s was none other than the shop owner, who had been playing the piano earlier.

Benedict’s expression darkened. “Chris, this is?”

“This is my wife, Leslie.” Christopher gently embraced Leslie and continued, “Ben, we only recently signed the papers, so I haven’t had the chance to tell your parents.”

“Hello.” Leslie smiled and nodded at them. “Please come to our wedding reception.”

Benedict was stunned.

“Okay.” Lucas nodded quickly.

“I have to go,” Christopher said, glancing at his watch. “I need to pick up my daughter from my mother’s place. We’ll catch up next time.” After bidding farewell to the group, he hugged Leslie and left.

Leonard frowned as he watched them leave. The name Leslie sounded familiar, but he could not place it.

Benedict wailed in despair behind Leonard, “Oh my G od! Why is my life so miserable? Was I Ben’s enemy in a past life?”

Lucas sympathetically patted Benedict’s shoulder. He could not help but feel sorry for his friend.

Benedict and Christopher were cousins, but Christopher was just a painful memory to Benedict from when they were children.

Benedict had always struggled to keep up and pass his classes, while Christopher breezed from one level to the next. Christopher had leaped from the first year of junior high school to the third year, then from the first year of high school to the third year, and eventually went abroad to study.

Benedict’s parents always said, “Ben, can’t you learn from your cousin? You two are from the same family. Why are you so hopeless?”

Growing up, Benedict carried that burden and was constantly in the shadow of his cousin’s success.

After that, he fell in love for the first time, but she fell in love with Christopher and chased Christopher abroad to marry him. Benedict finally found someone to love, but she was Christopher’s wife.

Chapter 27

‘The poor guy.’

It was rare for someone as stoic as Leonard to feel sympathy, but he could not help himself. “Didn’t Chris marry Rebecca? When did they get divorced?”

Benedict pouted. “They got divorced last year. I heard Rebecca leaked my cousin’s confidential academic information to his competitors to obtain citizenship.”
