Chapter 23

Leonard gazed at the petite young lady before him. Lisa’s face was red with rage, and her expression was remarkably vivid. However, Leonard could not help but feel unhappy.

‘Why is she more determined to get a divorce than before? Even celebrities vied for my attention and did their best to catch

my eyes.’

“The police showed up at our house, and now you want a divorce? My family will become the city’s laughing stock if this gets out!” Leonard snapped as he loosened his tie in frustration.

“Oh?” Lisa was stunned. “Are you afraid that your family’s accusations toward me will become a joke?”

Leonard’s expression darkened, and a flicker of embarrassment flashed. “Just stay here for now, and we’ll discuss the divorce

later.”

“Well, I can’t do that,” Lisa replied sarcastically, “You see, I’m needy and money-hungry. What if something goes missing here, and you accuse me of stealing it?”

Leonard faltered while his face grew several degrees colder. “Lisa, this hurdle will be hard to overcome, huh?”

“No,” Lisa frowned and sat on a chair. She thoughtfully regarded him. “I genuinely dislike staying here. I don’t like your

family. They despise the poor and adore the wealthy. They bully the weak, and they’re domineering.”

The anger Leonard had managed to suppress erupted. “Lisa, do you think my family holds you in high regard? You have zero respect for your elders. Your words are insolent and disrespectful, and you’re arrogant.”

Lisa nodded and casually spread her arms. “If that’s how it is, fine. I don’t care.”

Leonard fell silent. He finally realized arguing with her would only waste his energy. It was as pointless as punching a pillow. He could not help but wonder where his grandfather found such a woman.

Leonard furrowed his brows and changed the subject, “My father told me to find us somewhere else to live. What do think?”

“That won’t work.” Lisa shook her head. “I must stay here and interact with your parents to make them hate me enough. Otherwise, how can we proceed with the divorce?”

Although Leonard shared the same sentiment, Lisa’s eagerness to divorce him immediately left him feeling disheartened.

“It’s fine if you make my parents dislike you, but you must be careful not to be overly aggressive. My father has a heart condition, and my mother has diabetes and hypertension. Let’s not worsen their health issues by making them too angry.”

Lisa was speechless. She never expected David and Melissa to have such health problems. She realized she had to tread carefully since it could affect the entire family if something went wrong.

‘This situation is becoming increasingly frustrating.’

Leonard noticed Lisa’s troubled appearance and raised his brows.

‘Finally, something’s bothering her.’

Shortly after, a se rvant came upstairs and called them for dinner.

“Okay, we’re on our way.” Lisa rubbed her stomach. She was starving after dealing with the family earlier. It drained all her energy.

Leonard found her response unbelievable, “You just argued with my parents. How can you possibly go down for dinner?”

“What’s wrong with that? I’m the innocent one here. It’s you and your family who should feel embarrassed,” Lisa replied confidently before heading downstairs.

Leonard fell silent for a moment. Regardless of his dislike for Lisa, he must admit she was unlike any other woman he knew. In one aspect, he was sure she had a thick skin.

David and Melissa were already seated in the dining room. Melissa was in a foul mood as she sighed. “You shouldn’t have insisted on everyone having dinner together. Just the sight of Lisa might ruin my appetite.”

“You’re overthinking. Lisa might not even come downstairs,” David reassured his wife. “That’s true. After our argument, Lisa won’t have the nerve to join us for dinner.”
