Chapter 6

All I could do was shake my head. I was too overwhelmed to speak. My mind spun, unable to accept what Victor had said. How could I be Alberta Wilson?

And I didn’t want to be engaged to Victor. I couldn’t marry a man like him.

Sure, he was handsome and charming, but I didn’t like him. How could I fall in love with a man I didn’t like? And he was used to dating beautiful female Alphas, like the woman with him at the restaurant. He could never love me..

“It’s true, Daisy,” Victor said. “His voice was gentle and kind. “The DNA samples you gave at the clinic yesterday prove Alex Wilson is your father.” Victor gave me another charming smile that took my breath away.

Looking at Victor’s radiant, smiling face, I realized he didn’t remember me. That was hard for me to understand. If someone threw up on me, I’d never forget them. He must not really look at people. He probably hadn’t thought I was important enough to remember.

“No! You have the wrong person,” Andrea shouted. Her eyes narrowed as she looked at me. I’d never seen her this angry. “Daisy is no Alpha.”

Andrea pushed me closer to Victor. “Come on. Look at her. Is this the girl you want to marry? She’s ugly, clumsy, and can’t talk. She’s a stuttering freak! You need to do the DNA test again. There was a mix–up or something.”

I fought back tears as Victor looked me over. Andrea was right. I was no Alpha Princess, and I had to be a massive disappointment to Victor. My face flamed from embarrassment and humiliation as he looked at me more closely.

Victor was silent for a long moment. Then his smile returned, and he took my hand. “There’s no mistake,” he insisted. “Daisy is Alex Wilson’s daughter, and she isn’t ugly or a freak.”

His eyes turned ice cold as they turned to Andrea. “I don’t know who you are,” Victor’s voice cracked like a whip. “But your jealousy is making you the ugly one. Don’t ever talk about my fiancée in that manner again.”

Cecilia and Andrew hurried into the room. The argument must have awakened them. They looked both angry and confused.

“Who are you to speak to our precious daughter like….” Cecilia quickly stopped when she saw Victor’s face.

“I’m Victor Klein,” he replied. “Why do you allow your precious daughter to speak to Daisy in such a nasty way? Has Daisy been subjected to this kind of treatment all her

life? Adopted children deserve their parent’s love and protection too.”

“Of course, Mr. Klein,” Andrew replied. “Andrea, apologize to Daisy at once!”

“Why do you care about Daisy?” Cecilia asked suspiciously.

“Daisy is Alberta Wilson,” Victor replied calmly. “She’s the daughter of Alex Wilson, the leader of the United Association of Alphas. And my fiancée.”

Cecilia’s mouth fell open. “But… how?”

“Her parentage has been confirmed by DNA testing, and she looks exactly like her real. mother at the same age. Now her father is eager for her to return to his home,” Victor raised one of his brows. “Any other questions?”

“We love Daisy,” Cecilia went silent for a while and suddenly claimed loudly. “We’ve kept her and cared for her for seventeen years. Right, Daisy, dear?”

Not wanting to make more of a fuss, I nodded. Everything was happening so quickly that I couldn’t absorb it all.

“Andrea, apologize to Daisy and go to your room,” Cecilia ordered her daughter.

Andrea burst into tears and ran out of the room. The sound of her bedroom door slamming echoed through the house.

She’ll be severely punished, Mr. Klein,” Andrew said. “I promise.”

“See that you do,” Victor said. Then he turned to Daisy. “Open your gifts, Daisy. I hope you like them.”

I shook my head, not daring to speak. My stutter would have been too embarrassing in front of Victor.

Another visitor at the door took everyone’s attention away from me, and I ran to answer the door.

It was the man who looked like a butler at the clinic. He seemed surprised to see Victor.

“I don’t know how you beat me here, Mr. Klein,” the butler told Victor. “I came to tell Daisy and the Smiths about Daisy’s DNA results, but I suppose you already told them.”

“Yes, Benson. I was eager to meet my future bride,” Victor explained and introduced me to Benson, my father’s butler.

“Let’s get her home,” Benson said. “I’ve brought the limo to take her.”

“Wonderful,” Victor said. “Daisy, dearest, go outside to the car. I’ll ensure your gifts

accompany you to your father’s home.”

I was shaking badly. Expensive gifts, a billionaire father, a limousine, and an Alpha fiancé that I didn’t love were too much for me to process. It was all too much.

I looked at Amy, who stood at the room’s far end. She was also shocked, but when my eyes met hers, she gave me a smile and a thumbs–up. Maybe everything would be okay.

When Victor held out his arm to me, I gripped it tightly. Having the support of his strong arm was comforting. I was confused and frightened..It felt as if my life was. spinning out of my control.

Victor could feel my b*dy quivering, and he squeezed my hand. It was a kind gesture, but I needed to tell him what was on my mind.

“Even if I … I’m really Alex Wilson’s daughter, I still duh… don’t want to marry you,” I stammered.

I released Victor’s arm and looked at the floor. How I wish I could speak normally when I was nervous. I felt like such a fool, stuttering and stammering while refusing to marry Victor in front of the butler, Cecilia, and Andrew.

But then Amy gave me another smile and nodded. I nodded back and felt a surge of

courage.

“I wuh won’t marry you,” I told Victor. I couldn’t believe I was saying these words. Marriage has always been the last thing on my mind. I wanted to do something with my life before I married. “But I would like to meet my fah…father,” I added.

I was thrilled to have the chance to finally meet my father. All my life, I had imagined what he would be like. In my dreams, he was handsome, kind, and funny. And he loved. me and my mother very much.

The room had grown silent again. Cecilia and Andrew were gaping at me as if I’d lost

mind. All that mattered to them was money and power. I wouldn’t regret leaving this house. I hoped I never had to return.

my

We can discuss our marriage later,” Victor said and offered me his arm again.

I allowed Victor to escort me to the waiting limousine. I was crazy–excited. I was on my way to meet my biological father. Even though I’d dreamed of this day for years, I never expected it to happen.

Victor helped me into the back seat and smiled into my eyes. I will see you soon, Alberta.”

“Duh… Daisy,” I said. “My… my name is Daisy, and…”

Before I could say another word, Victor laughed and said, “I’ll see you later,” and then he closed the limousine’s door. The last thing I saw as the car slid away from the curb was the amused smile on Victor’s handsome face.
