Chapter 14 I Want a Normal Interview

“It’s okay, just spread the word. This is the only way to get them panicking, and when a person panics, they’re prone to slip up.”

Percy instantly understood what Levi meant, and he nodded slightly.

“I’ll get to it right away.”

Meanwhile, Rebecca held a laptop as she sat on the steps leading to the backyard. Her fingers zipped across the keyboard as she typed.

The screen showed that Cameron was online.

‘Boss, you’re finally online. Good news, the shares you recommended Mr. Lewis to invest in are going up, and he wants to hire you to be his company’s director.’

At the sight of the word ‘director’, Rebecca curved her lips in disdain. A cold look appeared in her eyes, completely different from the look she had when she was around Levi.

Her eyes were especially intimidating.

She quickly replied, ‘Decline it.’

What a joke. Did they think she’d be satisfied with just a director’s position? Even if Mr. Lewis offered her his entire company, she wouldn’t want it.

Cameron wasn’t surprised that Rebecca would decline. She was a famous financial expert in Cathodor, after all. Her gaze was sharp and critical, and all the projects or shares she had her eyes on would always go up.

‘Got it. Boss, someone wants to partner with our company lately, and they’re quite insistent.’

Rebecca frowned.

‘Do I still need to deal with these things myself?’

She didn’t think that she had to deal with such trivial matters herself.

Cameron knew that, of course. He was troubled and hesitated for a moment before typing a few words on the screen.

‘They’re not any ordinary person, though. They’re your husband’s people.’

‘Levi?’

This had become tricky. Levi wasn’t as easily dismissed as other people were, and if she didn’t handle it well, she might rouse his suspicions.

Cameron and the others had probably been showing off lately. For years, the Foley Group had always been the leading and the top company in Cathodor. Cameron and the others came in second, but Levi didn’t know about that.

Rebecca never used her name to register the company, and she was considered the manipulator behind the scenes. Levi wouldn’t discover that it was her even if he wanted to.

Rebecca nibbled on her thumb as she thought for a moment, then quickly replied, ‘Wait for me. I’ll be there in a few days to deal with it. Don’t make any moves.’

‘Alright.’

After logging off, Rebecca wondered how she should decline Levi’s partnership. She had to be strategic about it. Levi was a doubtful person, so if he found out something later on, it might make things difficult for her.

In the evening, Maurice suddenly made an announcement after their meal.

“Since Rebecca has married into the family, it wouldn’t be nice for her to stay at home all day. All the Foleys have jobs, so she can join the company and assist Levi.”

Phoebe mocked without consideration, saying, “Grandpa, you must have forgotten that one should at least be a postgraduate if one wants to be Levi’s assistant. This girl is from the countryside, so she probably didn’t even attend college. Even if she joins the company, she can only make tea and coffee for Levi. It would be such a disgrace!”

Kayla, of course, wouldn’t pass up the chance to mock Rebecca. “Grandpa, we’re not depending on her anyway, so we should just let her be a janitor.”

“Yes, she’s perfect for the job. She does a lot of chores in the countryside, right? She might even become the leader of the janitor team!”

Maurice slammed his hand on the table. “Nonsense. No matter how low Rebecca’s education might be, she can’t be a janitor. If word of this gets out, our reputation will be ruined!”

Kayla and Phoebe covered their mouths as they snickered. So what if Maurice stood up for Rebecca? He did it only to maintain the Foleys’ pride.

In the end, Maurice didn’t want Rebecca to be a janitor simply because the Foleys’ reputation was on the line.

Rebecca was unaffected as she looked at Maurice with her clear eyes. Suddenly, she said something that shocked everyone present.

“I want to join the company through a regular interview.”

Kayla and Phoebe laughed as if they just heard the funniest joke to ever exist.

“You’ve never worked at a company, so you probably have no idea how it’s supposed to work. If a person like you attends a regular interview, you might land a job as a janitor.”

Phoebe grinned as she nudged Kayla.

“Maybe she is trying to be a janitor. Don’t think too much of it.”

Kayla acted like she had just realized something.

“That’s right! Perhaps you only want an interview for a janitor’s position. In that case, just proceed with the normal procedures. After all, country bumpkins aren’t good at anything except physical labor.”

“Watch your mouths.”

Levi, who had been silent all this while, suddenly spoke up. His voice was frigid as it struck fear into the hearts of everyone else.
