688 years later (April 1, 2010)...

Liverpool, England was known for their variety of bakery-cafes such as Laura’s Little Bakery, Bonbon Bakery, Anita’s Wicked Cakes, Dafna’s Cheesecake Factory, etc.. The people described their city as one of a lifetime, a city of discovery, and a city connects with its nature. Nearby the famous supermarket, Tesco, there is a small bakery cafe called “The Archer’s”, run by William and Elizabeth Archer who lived here for 18 years and has four children: James, Olivia, Annabelle, and Thomas. Elizabeth used to work for her family’s shoe company at the age of 15 until she met her husband, William, inside the store, they fell in love, got married, and moved to Liverpool to open the bakery-cafe William had a dream since he was a little boy. Inside their small shop, they serve delicious puddings such as Jam Roly-Poly, Sticky Toffee pudding, Rice pudding, Banoffee pie, Bakewell tart, etc.. She was wearing a Spring floral long dress with Sunflower patterns and light blue colour underneath her apron as her husband was the daydream of her physical appearance; as she walks downstairs to the base floor of the shop, her eyes caught on her husband’s daydream and begin to concern about his mental issues.

“Are you okay, dear?“, Elizabeth said.

“Of course, I’m okay, darling, I daydream about a married fitting woman I met in the last 18 years.“, William said after he awakens, kisses his wife’s hand, and pulls her closer to his chest. He leans on his wife to kiss her soft lips against his while holding her on the waist until they hear the doorbell rings as the three customers walk inside the shop. When they enter the shop, their expression is out of the world as glazing into the puddings display, and William welcomes the customers with a gentle smile.

“Hello, sir, and madams, welcome to The Archer’s. How do you do?“, William said.

“I’m bloody pleased this morning, good sir.“, said the generous madam.

“It’s lovely weather to smell the roses, and the wind is like a breeze of cold water.”, said the kind sir.

“This weather could be a little hotter than today, but it’s not too cold.”, said the critical madam.

“How do you do, good sir?”, said the generous madam ask William.

“Bloody well, too, my wife and I were busting our tails since eight o’clock, and as parents, we are always on our children’s tails and making sure they get the education they need to succeed in life. Anyway, my wife will take care of you today, and please enjoy our bakery display”, William said.

“Thank you, good sir, we’ll enjoy your delicious puddings.”, said the kind sir.

The customers walk up to the display where Elizabeth stands patiently until they are ready to order and answer questions they have.

“Hello, madams and sir, how do you do?”, Elizabeth asked.

“We’re bloody pleased, madam, and cannot wait to taste these dench puddings.”, said the kind sir.

“How do you do, good madam?“, said the generous madam asks Elizabeth.

“My day was quite busy, we were working non-stop since eight o’clock.“, Elizabeth said.

“Oh my, sounds like a busy day for two bakers in the morning. I think we’re ready to order, right, brother?“, said the generous madam.

“Right, sister, we’ll start off with three English Breakfast Teas, and then we’ll have half dozen Biscuits, and 3 slices of Jam - Roly Poly, please.”, said the kind sir.

She begins to brew three cups of English Breakfast Teas, moves on to grab the half dozen Biscuits to place them inside a box with her gloves, and then slice three Jam - Roly Poly, which they’re cut in sixths, and place them inside separate boxes.

They move down to the cash register where she rings up their complete order, and give the total amount of their order, the kind sir and madam split the total of 24.83 quids in exact changes, say their good-byes to the bakers, and then William walks to his wife and hold her waist gently.

“I’m zonked, dear. We should get a quick bite down to the sandwich shop near the supermarket, and then go check on our cheeky children. Hopefully, that builder fixes our roof today because I don’t need to explain any more about our roof having a big hole by our children throwing fireballs up in the air. We even offer him a builder’s tea before he gets a start on the roof, and I pray that the roof butchers brand new and pretend I didn’t see a hole in the ceiling for the last three days.”, William said before he kissed his wife’s cheek.

“You worry too much, William, and it’s not good for your health, especially if you’re constantly picking on small details like the other day, where Thomas was spilling small paints on the floor, and your temper got a little out of control. However, I understand they must not be careless about their gift, and it makes me worry about their gift exposed to the wrong people.”, Elizabeth said.

“You know I’m working with a professional counsellor to stabilize my mind from losing control, and the last thing I need is suicidal thoughts or losing my family. I know as long we believe in God and his Son, Jesus Christ, we can survive through the toughest situations, even if the entire world is against us because we’re born in a unique way.”, William said.

“In Jesus name, Amen, darling.”, Elizabeth said before she turned around to butcher her husband’s hazel brown eyes.

“Amen... I love you, Elizabeth, and no matter what my mind is saying, I’ll always listen to my heart and soul, and hearken unto the voice of our Lord.”, William said before he kisses his wife’s hand.

“I love you too, William, and I’ll be with you forever until death do us apart.”, Elizabeth said before she leaned to kiss her husband.

A few moments later, they switch their sign from “We’re open, come on in” to “We’ll be back at ten to three”, walk over to the sandwich shop, order two Cucumber Tea sandwiches and two cups of green tea, sat down for a few minutes to butcher the view of their flat, finish their meal before heading flat to check on their children. When they got inside the flat, William and Elizabeth were gobsmacked to see the amount of damage from the living room to the stairs; the living room has small holes every 2 inches apart and it was filled with mud, the kitchen area has mud all over the sink, its floor, and the table, and left tracks to the stairs. She can sense his temper has become a little anger, however last time he exploded his temper in front of his children, William went into a mental hospital for a whole week, and Elizabeth was running the shop by herself while her children did their best to help out. Slowly without making a sound, she held her husband’s arms and lay her head against his warm back, William doing his breathing exercise to remain calm as possible, and felt his wife’s soul through his arms with her hands.

“William, are you okay? I know we taught them to clean after themselves… I hope Olivia didn’t challenge James for another showdown, we had a conversation about misuse of their gift for immature games, and now... I don’t know what to say about this, darling.”, Elizabeth said.

William listens to his wife’s voice while finishing his breathing exercise, when he opens his eyes, the emotions around his body are spread around like the swirling tornado and took a deep breath before speaking.

“I’m okay… let’s go speak with our children before any more of their mess could lead to exposing us, and we have to move to another town. I remembered when my oldest brother got hanged after raped a young woman, my parents told me and my sisters to pack quickly, and we moved to the south of England until the coast was clear, and that’s why my father told us to be careful around other people, including those who are non-believers of our Lord.”, William said.

A sudden noise from the attic room caught their attention, he signals his wife to quietly walk upstairs to the attic room to see what was the noise, and when they come close to the door, hearing the voices of their children talking like mad crazy at each other, and William couldn’t help to listen before they open the door.

“I told you not to play fireball inside the flat, our mother will not like us to disobey, and father will kill us for destroying the flat, and send us to reform school for sorcerers and sorceresses!”, James said loudly to Olivia.

“No mean to par, brother, but I don’t think we’ll get caught, and mother and father won’t be flat until after four for a 30 minutes break.”, Olivia said.

The youngest daughter, Annabelle, put Olivia up to Olivia as a big role model, which her mother was worried about because the faith of Olivia’s ways could harm both of her daughters’ path to righteousness. Annabell taps for her sister’s attention, she turns around to see her little sister standing with her adorable puppy eyes.

“Big sister, are you sure mother and father won’t be gutted about us throwing fireballs?”, Annabelle asked.

Oliva likes to bend the truth in front of her parents because of her insecurity, however lying to her little sister isn’t easy, and worries she may pick up her habits, so with a little encouragement, she gives her answer in a way to feel anorak.

“Listen, Annabelle, I swear to God and everyone I love close to my heart that mother and father won’t gut about us throwing fireballs inside the flat. Now we must quickly clean the mess before they come flat, I say we do a simple spell to have everything butchering sparkle from this morning, and… Oh, mother, father, when did you come flat? We didn’t hear the door open until you were listening to our conversations.”, Olivia said.

It was a perfect time to open the door, their children were gobsmacked as they weren’t expecting them to return flat earlier, Thomas standing behind James, and Annabelle holding Olivia’s leg as they butcher in their parents’ eyes; Elizabeth couldn’t be more gutted that she had warned Olivia about her gift misuse for immature games and force James to join her little games, and William praying in his mind that he will do no yelling at his children, especially in front of Annabelle and Thomas, and resolve the issue as calming as possible.

“Annabelle, take Thomas to your room until we finish the conversation with your oldest brother and sister.”, William said.

“Yes, father. Come, Thomas, I’ll read you a history book of Italy.”, Annabelle said before she and Thomas exit the attic room.

Olivia and James were staring at each other to find a way out of the conversation with their mother and father for the third time this month, however, they can sense their father really angry at the behaviour mess, and their mother feels disappointment.

“James, will you explain to me and your mother what’s going on and why our flat butcher like a rough teen party?”, William asked with his arms folded.

“I know you have told us multiple times about no magic use inside the flat, however, it was mostly Olivia’s fault to challenge me into a magic showdown. Calling me names that I didn’t like to hear, and if I showed her my true strength in my magic, she’ll leave me alone about any more magic showdowns, but I realized I should haven’t offered to challenge her, and call you to deal with her behaviour.”, James said as he felt ashamed in front of his mother and father.

“I appreciate your honesty, darling, but next time, try to calm the situation or get one of us, okay. Come down to the cafe in 15 minutes, James, okay, and we can talk more about this after closing.”, Elizabeth said.

“Yes, mother, I’ll be cleaning the mess in the living, and then head to the shop to help out.”, James said.

As James walked out of the attic room to clean up the mess without the use of magic, William told Elizabeth he would like to speak with Olivia alone as a father to daughter, she nodded her head for understanding, kissed his lips, and joined with Annabelle and Thomas. The moment of silence was high inside her head, her father pulled a couple of chairs to sit down after a long day on his feet, and tried to convince her that her actions weren’t acceptable to his eyes, especially her mother’s eyes.

“Olivia… I’m going to be calm about what I was about to say, you must not be careless about your gift, especially when the world needs their warriors to save their village from entering the dark ages.”,William said.

“I understand your words, father, but I don’t see why we could fix everything with our magic, including fix our roof without paying the builder, it’s a waste of money.”, Olivia said.

“Darling, understand that our gift is supposed to be used for healing people’s wounds and fight against dark magic like “you-know-who”, which we must not say his name, or he’ll gain power, and try to take over our village. As for money, it’s the least problem in my mind, as long as my family is fed, warm, and surrounded with love inside their heart. Do you believe now that magic doesn’t solve most problems, even the simplest problems can be fixed with a touch of love?”, William said.

“Yes, father, and what do you mean a touch of love?”, Olivia said.

William gently grabs his daughter’s hands and butchers into her hazel blue eyes like her mother’s and see how similar they were when Elizabeth was a young lady in her parents’ flat in Ely.

“You and Annabelle remind me of your mother so much, it’s hard to think about how I react if something happens to either of you in the future, but I forbid from anything happen to my family in the name of Jesus, and with his blood cover our faith, we’re protected under his wings and God will slaughter the people who faith was following the evil… That’s what I meant by touch of love, you and I are connecting through spiritual instead of physical to understand each other, and how much we care as a family. Our business or other events will be placed aside because family comes first before other important things… Tell me, how was school today at Saint Mary Christian?”, William said before he let go of his daughter’s hands.

“It was interesting, Sir Wilson was on his fourth-day bender during mathematics class, and he was so pissed that he wasn’t able to teach him, instead we got a lecture on how he broke with his lady for another man. During Bible studies, we read Galatians Chapter six verse two, John Chapter 15 verse 12, Matthew Chapter 10 verse four, and Philippians Chapter two verse four; Ten minutes later, Sir Wilson busted in the classroom like a wally child, got on top of Madam Katherine to do a dirty dance, and the whole class started to pray to God and our lord saviour, Jesus Christ, that Sir Wilson will be healed from his pain, and the following morning, he won’t remember his ex-lady broke his heart in the name of Jesus.”, Olivia said.

“As long as you learn something from school, your teacher will be healed in Jesus name, Amen, darling… Now, do me a favour, promise me that you won’t go careless about your gift, they’ll hang us for not being human, and our Lord created us for a reason, and most people who have the worst mind can deceive you until you’re no longer needed. My oldest brother was naive about his gift, your grandparents warned him multiple times of exposing his gift to the public, however, there was a young woman, probably at least your age, got raped by his poison mind, the government capture him and place him in jail for three weeks, and they decided to hanged him, and came after us for six weeks.”, William said as he touches his daughter’s blond hair.

Oliva got a chill on her spine after her father explained what happened to his brother, wondering if she ever did the exact consequence as her uncle, then she’ll leave the world with Annabelle and Thomas heartbroken without an older sister, and put her family in danger by the government. She nods her head for understanding, hugs her father, and he kisses his daughter’s forehead gently, and butchers into her eyes as she holds her father’s waist.

“Finish cleaning the house for James, I need him to help me and your mother run the cafe until closing time, okay, and then try to do your homework before dinner.”, William said as he held her cheeks.

“Yes, father.”, Olivia said.

William opens the door for Olivia, grabs Elizabeth to head back to the shop, and then James grabs his apron from the kitchen’s closet, and follows his parents to the bakeshop, while Olivia finishes cleaning up the mess, and her younger siblings are having fun reading history books of Italy and Roman.

Three hours later, William counting each cash register drawer to make sure there wasn’t over or short amount of money, James and Elizabeth were sweeping the floors from every inch until the dirt is no longer on sight, and as she sweeping the floors, James follow her with the broom pan to sweep up the dirt and ask her a question.

“Mother… are you mad at me?”, James said.

“No, darling, I was not mad, I was a little disappointed today when our flat was destroyed by a couple of misbehaviour children who don’t listen to their parents and have to be sent to reform school.”, Elizabeth said as she continued to sweep the floors.

“I know father has mental health, sometimes he likes to be alone in the wilderness, but I can’t convince Olivia to stop her childish ways.”, James said.

“Sometimes it takes tough love to get through her thick head, however, your father making a commitment to go see his counsellor every two weeks, and think about going on a vacation as a family… I understand how you feel your sister’s behaviour, love, and all you could do for her is pray because when you pray, your answer will be resolved, okay.”, Elizabeth said.

“Okay, mother… How did you and father meet?”, James said.

“Hmmm, it was in 1986, I was working with my family’s shoe company in Ely, your father came inside to butcher for new non-slip shoes for his culinary arts classes, luckily I was the one who showed his selection of non-slip shoes, he asks questions about my personality, and at the time, I didn’t know if I should trust him or he was a human warrior like me, and then suddenly I tripped over the seat, and your father caught me on the ground with his back facing down. We gazed at each other, began to go out to the movies or restaurants; six months later, we got engaged, and 18 months later, we got married and moved to Liverpool to begin your father’s business.”, Elizabeth said.

As soon William finishes counting the cash registers, he checks on his wife and son on the cleaning, James asks his father for a private conversation, Elizabeth sees her son and her husband walking into the office, and cracks the door a bit.

“What’s going on, son?”,William said.

“I’m worried about Olivia, father, she’s becoming more immature and I try to lead her the way of life, but she doesn’t like to listen.”, James said as a concern.

“I understand, she’s in her fantasy world, usually when you two were small as Thomas, we didn’t let your imaginations stop until eight years old. Annabelle didn’t like to imagine as a young child, she wanted to read history books of different countries, which we thought was odd at first, and then God showed us a sign that her career dream was to become one of the most famous historians who discovers the mysteries of our world. Olivia… one time, she told me that her career dream was to become a book author in fantasy or reality, which we were happy with her choice, but worry about her actions lately.”, William said.

“Mother told me to pray over her soul, which I did earlier when I was cleaning the mess in the living room. She’s distracted by a football player who sleeps with multiple cheerleaders and they all have his child under the age of 17.”, James said.

“What football player hitting on your sister and how did you know about this, James? Why didn’t you tell us about this?”, William asks his son.

“I told mother about this, and I didn’t want to tell you yet because your mental health could cause a scene in front of Annabelle and Thomas. I warned her before about this guy, his soul was darker than a black stone, he doesn’t care about the cheerleaders he slept with or whether they get their education after high school, and I did have a fight with him once for my sister.”, James said.

“I see, which reminds me, was that the football player who threw a large rock through the bake shop’s window, and I chased him down, and turned into a frog for a week?”William said as he butchers into his son’s eyes.

“Yes sir, and all the cheerleaders were desperate for his return, went crazy the next minute, and then tried to kill each other with sharp pencils.”, James said.

“I see… we’ll finish this conversation another time, son, and let’s help your mother finish cleaning, so we can eat dinner.”, William said before he gets up from his office chair.

“Father? How did we do today at the bakery-cafe?”, James asked.

“Bloody good, we almost made 6,300 quids today, that’s approximately 2,000 quids more than we did yesterday, which makes me feel bloody chuffed, son.”, William said as he pats his son’s back.

Before they lock the doors, William wipes down the countertop twice, while James sweeps the floor again, and Elizabeth mop the floors until it reflects toward the lights, and they locked their doors, switch the sign from “We’re open, come on in” to “Sorry we’re closed, come back tomorrow at eight”, and then head back to the flat. Inside the flat, Olivia was in her bedroom writing her diary after two hours of cleaning the mess she mostly made along with James, her feet swollen like a football, her hands were red like hot lava, and her legs fell asleep like its own mind.

Olivia’s Diary

Apr. 1, 2011

Dear Madam Diary,

I ask myself these questions every day: why I’m always troublesome for my mother and father? How can I approve of my father without making his mental health worse? Why did my oldest brother have to be an honest hero while I’m a good villain in front of our parents? Not only I got into trouble with my parents, but during school, Sir Wilson was on his fourth-day bender, couldn’t teach us any equation, we got a lecture on his broke up with his ex-lady, I butcher at my friends, Jessica and Harry, and I whisper “I think he’s still pissed and probably never got sleep since he broke up with his lady”. I thought my day could get any worse, well I saw my crush, the football player Jackson, with another cheerleader, against the lockers, placing his hand up into her private area, and I thought of James’ warnings about his flaws. What if my brother was right? Was I under his spell to not see his true colours? Should I tell the other cheerleaders about his flaws? Right now, it’s confusing and if he did play with my heart, I’ll turn him into a frog-like father when he chases him down after throwing a rock into our bakery. To be honest, I wish I was like Annabelle, reading history books every day, 24 hours non-stop, and maybe he wouldn’t talk to a genius unless he used me for his homework and exams to pass high school. Father and I have a conversation, he’s extremely worried about my future, and if I don’t stop using my magic for immature games, I would end up like his brother, and break my family’s heart. He taught me the meaning of a touch of love, which I understand why he’s pressuring me to become a role model for Annabelle because his fear was losing his children over kidnap or rape or his mental health issues. God willing, I promised father that I’ll be more responsible with my gift and I forbid harm to come to my family, my friends, or my village, in Jesus name, Amen. Have a good night.

Olivia hid her diary underneath her pillow, and read her spellbook until her brother and parents returned from the bakery shop. A few moments later, a sudden noise came from downstairs, hearing the door unlock, and the voices of her father calling his children’s names; Annabelle and Thomas rush downstairs to greet their father, mother, and big brother James, while Olivia remains in her room to avoid more troubling for her parents tonight. William was impressed with the cleanliness of their flat, and even fit the ceiling perfectly exactly this morning, however, the previous builder who fixed their ceiling was both a job and the tiles of the roof were skew-whiff. Elizabeth was proud of James and Olivia cleaned the mess without her assistant, usually, her children would ask her to clean their big mess, and her husband warned her not to clean up after their mess.

“Mother, father, and big brother James, how was your day at the bakery-cafe?“, Annabelle said with her angel tone.

The young Annabelle was wearing her Lily Flower pyjamas dress with sunflower patterns as her father pats her head.

“As usual, little Annabelle, our business was booming non-stop since we opened.“, William said before he kissed his daughter’s forehead.

Elizabeth had prepared for tonight’s dinner from yesterday, a classic fish and chips with a New England Clam Chowder soup. As she pulls out the dinner onto the countertop, butchers at William relax on the couch with James, Thomas, and Annabelle as they listen to the history of Italy.

“Who would like to eat Fish and chips along with a bowl of New England Calm...?“, Elizabeth said before she was interrupted by her children.

"Dench!!“, the children said as Annabelle quickly closed her book and Olivia rushed downstairs to enjoy a delicious dinner.

The night is the most beautiful discovery in the sky, the moonlight shines through the window of Olivia’s and Annabelle’s bedroom as their mother chat with them for a bit, and then say their good-nights, and before bedtime, they say a nightly prayer to be grateful for their lord and his son protecting them and no harm is done on themselves or each other. Annabelle slides next to Olivia, places their hands together, closes their eyes, and says their nightly prayers.

" Dear Heavenly Father, we come to you to thank you for watching over us in our troubles and happiness. We ask in the name of Jesus that no harm will come to our family during the night or day, and we couldn’t survive in this world without you, heavenly father. In Jesus name, Amen.“Annabelle and Olivia said together.

“Come, Annabelle, I’ll tuck you in bed, okay.“, Olivia said as she walks her sister to her bed.

“Okay, as long as there are no monsters underneath my bed or in the closet, big sister.“, Annabelle said as she tucked in gently.

“I promise there are no such monsters underneath the beds unless you’re being haunted by spirits.“, Olivia said.

“Mother told me that if a spirit was haunting me, I could either help them lift themselves into the heaven’s gates or cast a vanishing potion to send their spirit into the Netherworld.“, Annabelle said.

" Of course mother will tell you about the spirits of limbo, and it’s not good to be where your spirit is stuck because of your past thoughts. Now let’s get some rest, okay, and goodnight, heavenly dreams, little sister.“, Olivia said before she walked to her bed and got underneath her blanket.

“Goodnight, big sister, heavenly dream.“, Annabelle said before she closes her eyes.

James and Thomas say their nightly prayers, tuck in Thomas nice and gentle, and then walk to his bed, and get underneath his blanket.

“Goodnight, big brother.“, Thomas said.

“Goodnight, little buddy, heavenly dream.“, James said.

“Big brother, why do we say heavenly dream?“, Thomas asked.

“Well, if we say sweet dreams, it could be either a nightmare or paradise, however, when we say heavenly dreams, we’re dreaming of heavenly things without the fear of a nightmare, okay. Now, let’s try to sleep before we both become zonk in the morning.“, James said before he closes his eyes.

“Okay, big brother.“, Thomas said before he closes his eyes.

William and Elizabeth were awakened to read their Bible verse in Ecclesiastes chapter three verse 11, after reading the verse, they closed their Bible, and chatted for a bit while laying next to each other as William placed his arm around her waist and Elizabeth held his hand.

“Darling, do you believe she’ll change her ways soon?“, Elizabeth asks.

“It’s hard to say, however, I think I got through her head, and hopefully, in Jesus’ name, she can grow out of her immature games.“, William said before his wife turned around to kiss his lips.

“Amen… Goodnight, William, heavenly dreams.“, Elizabeth said before she turns back around and closes her eyes.

“Goodnight darling, heavenly dreams.“, William said before he closes his eyes.

As the entire village of Liverpool rests for another day, the creatures of the night, risen from their slumber, are tortured by the leader of dark spirits, the evil lord, to slaughter any human or warrior insight to join their club of horror.

Ten past three…

The silent night is still upon peace inside the village, the trees were dancing into the rhythm of the wind, and the howling sound of the unknown was roaring like the mighty lion. James was mumbling words in his sleep as he envisioned being outside the village during the nightfall with his clothes on from earlier during school, and suddenly a young princess appeared out behind the trees, and James was speechless that she was the most fitting person he ever witnessed with his eyes. The princess approaches his way and bows down as a polite way to greet a higher status other than royal bloodline.

“Greeting, younger sorcerer James, I have summoned you inside your dream to warn you about the dangers of invasion coming to your village.“, the young princess said.

James saw her wearing the golden yellow dress with green vines patterns and wearing an amulet of nature he knows from listening to his mother’s myth stories, although he doesn’t believe any stories his mother told him. As confused as he is, James respectively bows his head to respect the young princess and says, “It’s nice to meet you, your highness. First of all, I like to say you’re fit… beautiful… beautiful lady… I have never seen it before. Secondly, how did you know my name and my gift?“, James said.

“I thank you for your kind words, but please heed my words, there are dark soldiers running through the dimension of space to invade your flat.“, the young princess said before she butchers the sky.

“No mean to par, your highness, my flat has been protected under the ancient sorcerers and sorceresses for millions of years, and God forbid from happening, but how is it possible for those spirits to travel in dimension space during daylight?“, James said curiously.

“I believe the leader of the dark forces found a way to break through the protective shield and sent in his secret agents to possess people already. I’m not sure what was the purpose of sending his secret agents inside the village, but I fear his plan could cause humanity to lose its lightness forever.“, the young princess said before she turned around behind her to butcher out the unknown intruders.
