Adelaide

Wade’s been super sweet and caring the last few weeks... I’m starting to want passionate Wade though. My wolf is desperate for him to mark me because then we’ll be able to feel his emotions and he can influence mine.

The Doctor said my arm is healed enough so he’s taken the cast off, he’s suggested not to spar or train for at least a few more days. I suppose that’s OK. I overdid it and thought I was at full strength, it was my fault my arm snapped. Wade and father blamed the guard which I felt bad for. I suppose he probably won’t want to spar me again. I’ll have to build up muscle again.

I’ve felt vulnerable for long enough I need to get myself back together again. I’ve moped, I’ve been depressed, it’s time to get back to normal. I go to the main kitchen where a few guards are eating. They stop when they see me and all make a move to go. I sigh and stop them with a hand gesture. “At ease gentlemen.” They resume eating but I see them looking at me warily. I grab a pack of chocolate chip cookies; I fancied sugar. “Hey, Dely.” I turn to see Jesse.

“Hey, Jess.” He eyes the packet in my hand “I’ll share if you come upstairs?” he nods and we both make our way upstairs to the family wing.

“Want a movie night tonight?” Jesse asked while munching through his second cookie

“Sounds good, snacks?”

“100%. Wanna sneak around the palace? Midnight feast?” I chuckle, we had brilliant times having midnight feasts. I agree as he grabs another cookie.

“Your dad stopped fuming about your arm yet?”

“I think so, it was my fault. Has Terry stopped hiding?”

“Nope, he’s avoided Wade and the King like a plague.” I roll my eyes. “Come on let’s squirrel some food away before tonight, so if we get caught at least we still have something.” His eyes glint mischievously. I find myself giggling as he pulls me to the pantry kitchen that’s in the basement.

I throw my hair up quickly before pulling on my trainers. I'm excited, I feel more powerful today so I think I'm ready to run the training circuit that the royal guard must complete in under five minutes. I’d been practising for almost a week since I was cleared to train again. So far, I can do it in seven minutes. “Where you going speedy?” Wade grabs me around my waist and captures my lips in his, I instantly succumb to him, and my arms are around his neck. “I thought you’d already left?” I pull from him breathlessly, “Nope, can’t sneak off that easy.”

“I was going to run the guard’s course,” I explain with a small shrug, not that I have to tell him where I'm going.

“Think you can beat my time?” his voice begging me to whip his arse.

“Course,” I flip my hair confidently, he's a good fighter, but Wade is not built for speed.

*

“Hey, that’s cheating!” I cry as Wade’s pulls my foot so I land heavily on the tyres.

“Clocks still running dollface,” I get back to my feet and keep going, scrambling up the twenty-foot wall. I swing between the ropes and land finishing the course. “Five minutes thirty-two!” Wade jogs to me

“Would have been five-twenty if you hadn’t cheated.” I fold my arms and pout at him.

“Oh stop pouting, my turn,”

“You won’t beat me,” I goad.

“Just watch me,” his arrogance laughable, but only I can laugh at him, not that he is actually mine, we haven't marked each other - not for lack of trying on my part.

We get back to the start and I grab the stopwatch from him. “Ready... set... go.” I press the start and he’s sprinting to the first five-foot-high log wall.

I don’t even let him get there before I’ve tackled him, straddling his hips. “Oi!”

“Clocks still running,” I tease dangling the stopwatch. He growls as I wriggle my hips against him.

“Dels, not here,” he gasps. I chuckle as I run my fingers just under the waistband of his shorts making him squirm and growl again. “I don’t want our first time in the middle of a training circuit... but it will be if you don’t stop.” I giggle but I retract my fingers from his waistband. I lean down to kiss him but he flips our positions with ease making him now leaning over the top of me.

I reach up to his cheek, “Wade, you don’t need to be cautious. Please. I’m ready, I promise.” I stare deep into his grassy eyes, trying to portray how serious I am. He leans down and brushes his lips against mine, “OK, tonight. I want you in bed, not in the dirt,” he mutters huskily against the edge of my mouth. His warmth retracts from me as he rises and helps me up.

"Adelaide, have you got Wade?” a mind link crackles in my head

"Yes, father,”

"I need him in my throne room, he has a visitor,” father’s voice retracts from my mind as he finishes the mind link. “Wade, father says you have a visitor,” I relay.

“Oh? Where?”

“Throne room.”

“OK, I’ll see you tonight yeah?” I narrow my eyes at him, he seems edgy before he turns from me striding towards the palace. “Hold up! I want to see who’s come to see you!”

“It’s probably nothing. I’ll see you later!” I can hear the tension in his voice so I chase after him, he keeps trying to get me to go elsewhere only making me want to see what’s going on more. We reach the door to the throne room and he turns to me.

“Dels, please don’t go in there,” he begs

“Why not!” I fold my arms, annoyed he’s obviously hiding something from me. He rubs his face, a sure sign I’m stressing him out. “If you can’t give me a reason, I’m just going in,” I declare walking past him as he stutters unintelligibly. I push the door open and stride in without taking in my surroundings properly. I see a man kneeling in front of father, he turns. And I turn white.

That scar.
