Chapter 23: The Mystery Girl

A teenager named Arnold Wakefield went fishing and noticed a girl around his age who appeared to be injured near the lake. Concerned, Arnold immediately dialed 911 and an ambulance quickly arrived to transport the girl to the hospital. At the hospital, Dr. Howard Black, a doctor on duty, examined the girl and was astonished to discover her true identity. Dr. Black informed the police that the girl they had found was none other than Melissa Johnson, who had been missing for a year. Melissa’s parents, Clark and Amelia, had been desperately searching for her during this time.

Howard urgently reaches out to Clark and Amelia. As he sits on the couch with Amelia watching TV, Clark can’t help but think about his daughter Melissa. He feels awful about their recent argument, but he’s not willing to back down. Ever since Melissa started dating that boy Mark Miller, she’s been nothing but disrespectful. Mark is rude and ill-mannered, and Clark refuses to have him in their home. Melissa has even started skipping school just to be with him! Clark has tried to be understanding, but when he discovered birth control in her room, he knew he had to take action. Their argument escalated quickly, and the next day, Melissa was nowhere to be found.

Clark’s efforts to locate Melissa through private investigators proved to be unsuccessful. As he was lost in thought, the phone rang, and he answered it, only to hear Howard on the other end. Howard informed him that they had found Melissa, who was in a coma and badly injured in the hospital. Clark was immediately filled with anger and demanded to know what had happened. Howard explained that a boy named Arnold Wakefield had found her near the lake, but he didn’t know any more details. Clark asked which hospital Melissa was at, and Howard told him it was the one near his house. Clark wasted no time, replying that they were on their way.

He informed Katherine that Melissa was in the hospital close to his house. Katherine agreed to meet him there. When they arrived at the hospital, they discovered that the girl had already woken up from her coma. Clark and Amelia went to see the girl in her room.

The girl was confused and asked, “Who are you?”

Clark responded by saying, “We are your parents.”

Dr. Howard Black then introduced himself and asked if she remembered her name, to which she replied that she did not.

“Your name is Melissa Johnson. I am Clark Johnson and this is my wife Amelia. “We are your parents,” Clark responded.
