Chapter 2: The Unhappy Princess

Princess Mary is delighted that Anne has given birth to a daughter. She is aware that her father is upset with Anne for not producing a son, and she knows that he may divorce Anne if she fails to do so. Princess Mary is eagerly awaiting her father’s divorce from Anne. Although she is unable to return to the castle because she did not attend her father’s wedding, she is unconcerned. Princess Mary is actively devising a plan to end her father’s marriage to Anne. Jane Smith has agreed to assist her and intends to win King Henry’s affections away from Anne.

Princess Jackie is feeling quite upset at the moment. Her brother, King Henry, is forcing her to marry the king of France, even though she has no desire to do so. The king of France is far too old for her, and she was hoping to find someone closer to her own age to marry. In an effort to try and resolve the situation, she went to speak with Anne, hoping that Anne could talk to King Henry on her behalf. Unfortunately, Anne doesn’t seem to have much faith in Henry’s ability to listen to reason.

“Henry has always been unfaithful to Princess Katherine,” Jackie said, and Anne was not at all surprised to hear it.

In fact, she suspects that Henry may be having an affair even now, although she has no idea who it might be with.

“I did not think he would be unfaithful to me,” Anne replied sadly.

“Well, he is. My brother does not know what love is,” Princess Jackie replied.

“I was just hoping that he really loves me,” Anne replied.

“My brother Arthur was a good man and I miss him,” Princess Katherine cried.

“I know my dad told me good things about Prince Arthur,” Anne replied.

“If Arthur was alive and he was king he would never force me to marry someone I did not love,” Princess Jackie replied.

“I love Henry. I trust that what I am about to share with you will remain confidential,” Anne pleaded.

“I will not tell anyone,” Princess Jackie agrees.

“You have to make your own choices. I know Henry means well, but you are a grown woman. You should be able to choose who you want to marry,” Anne replied. ”

I am scared that Henry will hate me if I go against him,” Princess Jackie cried.

“I am not going to lie to you. Henry is going to be angry with you for going against him, but he will forgive you in time. He cannot stay angry with you forever,” Anne assures Princess Jackie.

“Thank you, Anne. You are a good friend,” Princess Jackie replied with a smile.

Anne returned the smile and responded, “You have been a good friend to me too. I have always been thankful for our friendship.”

The two friends shared a warm embrace, grateful for the bond they had built over the years.

Princess Jackie contemplated the idea of fleeing upon her arrival in France. She had managed to accumulate sufficient funds to sustain a comfortable existence. However, Princess Jackie was uncertain of her destination. The notion of Arthur had started to dominate her thoughts. The authorities had been unsuccessful in locating Arthur’s remains. Surprisingly, their mother displayed no signs of distress over Arthur’s passing. Given that Arthur was their mother’s favored child, Princess Jackie couldn’t comprehend her lack of grief. This led Princess Jackie to speculate on the possibility of Arthur still being alive. She dismissed the notion of him staging his own death and instead considered the possibility that Arthur had lost his memory.

Princess Jackie is questioning why her mother never revealed that Arthur was alive to their family. Despite her skepticism about Arthur faking his death, she ponders the possibility that he did so to avoid marrying Princess Katherine. Additionally, Princess Jackie wonders about the reasons behind her sister’s move to Mississippi and whether Arthur is currently married or has children.
