The Girl Called Trouble
October Dreams

That night was filled with the cries of children. I could hear them, knowing it was because I chose to live. I didn't fully understand at the time but I knew that what ever was happening was terrible.

I watched the next morning as the children were brought back to the clearing. Some had to be carried because they couldn't walk. One child, the one that went with Frank, he wasn't moving. I knew then that I could never return here.

I was sitting in the the park with Faun. Hera hasn't worked in over a week. He has been jittery all day and talking nonsense. Of course, I'm stuck working with a crazy man. I can't stand the guy but I'm always polite. Perhaps that's' the problem. Perhaps people here aren't used to manners. Of course manners are a product of culture and differ depending on where you are in the world.

"I hate the Caucasoid race. They should all die because they are all murderers and rapists. I can't stand any of them." Faun yells in the middle of the park.

"Faun you shouldn't say stuff like that when we are trying to sell stuff. You will scare the customers away. Nobody wants to hear that while they are shopping." I try to sound as calm as possible, hoping to remind him why we are where we are.

"Shut up! Don't act like I can't see your skin color. I can't stand looking at you! Don't even get me started on Asians. They are all rude, Talking in their weird language. I hate Chinese." Faun yells to the people in the park.

"Faun you should take it somewhere else." Ceres, still trying to sound reasonable, explains calmly.

"White people should all die including you Ceres. I just want to kill all of them!" Faun continues his protest.

"Faun, shut up and work, or leave. You are driving away our profits. Seriously. Nobody wants to hear your crazy!" Ceres finally yells back

"It isn't up to you its up to Hera. She wont take your side anyways!" Faun Says crazily.

I finally contact Hera to tell here how he is acting.

"Did you tell him to shut up?" Hera asks.

"Of course I did. He is bad for business." I explain.

"You don't tell him to shut up. It's rude. besides, I kind of agree with some of the things he is saying." Hera says calmly.

I don't bother after that. There was no point in trying to stop him so I just sat there and ignored him. I no longer even tried to make sales. We made very little. So when I got back to the apartment, I handed her the $60 we made in sales and walked away.

"$60 Is all you made? How come it's so little? Most nights we get a couple of hundred. What were you two doing at the park?" Hera asks.

"I told you his behavior was bad for business." I just shrug and walk away. There is a time and place for everything. he just chose the wrong time and the wrong place to express his opinions.

I wandered through the woods until I found a cabin that appeared abandoned. It makes me angry to think about what my father has done to the people around him. Then again. he may not be my father, and the other adults do not seem to disagree with him.

It doesn't matter. I can survive without them. I am probably best off alone. After all, look at what Frank did. I thought he was a good person. Instead, he is as much a monster as my father. What about my mother? I don't even remember what she looks like. She could have been there and I would have never recognized her.
