The GHOST and Charlie Dusenberry
Chapter Twenty Five: Looking Ahead

PG. 127 TGACD R. ZEIS

Gus kissed Norma on the cheek as he got out of bed. Walking into the living room,

Gus stood in front of the large picture window to observe another great sunrise. He would never get tired of that.

He’d been home for some time now. He didn’t know exactly how long. Time was hard to gauge ‘up here.’ An angel had greeted him on his return and both had talked about his visits ‘down there.’

”I really miss watching my grandson play baseball,” Gus had said to the angel. “In fact, watching him play made me realize how much I miss playing myself.”

The angel had smiled and seemed to Gus to glow a little brighter. “You can check in on your grandson now and then. I’ll tell you how it’s done next time we meet.” Gus liked that. “And,” the angel continued, “you can play baseball anytime you wish. In fact, your friends have wondered where you are.”

Gus stammered, “Really? I can play baseball again?”

“Of course,” replied the angel. “Just wish it. After all, it’s heaven!”

Remembering the angel’s visit, Gus decided today was the day he’d play baseball again. Looking around the house, Gus found his first baseman’s glove. Automatically, Gus raised the glove to his face and smelled that sweet scent of leather.
