Chapter 27: Suck it up

Avery

“Can you make pancakes?” Lilly whined as I walked down the stairs with Ashe.

“I just got here.” I laughed at her.

“Please Avery.” Katie said puppy dog eyes.

Don’t give in, don’t give in.

I looked over at Lilly, Tony, and Ashe. They were giving me puppy dog eyes too.

“Ugh!” I threw my hands up in the air and got the ingredients out. “Fine!”

“Yay!” Everyone cheered and clapped their hands.

“Oh hello peoples.” Stacy smiled walking into the kitchen.

“Hey.” We said back.

“Want some pancakes?” I asked flipping them over.

She shook her head. “No thanks. I got to go help with all the training. Oh and by the way, Jake wants you two train as well. And all the younger kids have like the playground gym type thing to go do. It’s really easy.” She laughed and left out the door.

I looked at Ashe and groaned. “I don’t want to see them.”

“Neither do I.” Ashe said slamming her head on the table.

“What happened between you guys?” Katie asked.

“You idiot of a brother was kissing another girl.” I said stabbing the pancake with the spatula. “Like how barley. He is my damn mate. He should be only kissing me. And I’m also marked. He shouldn’t be going around cheating on me! Like who the hell does he think he is?! Just because he is the alpha, doesn’t mean he can go whoring around and bang anything with a damn pulse! And besides, he is-“

“Avery!” Everyone yelled.

I stopped what I was doing and looked up. “What?”

“I think you killed our pancakes.” Tony said pointing down.

I looked down and saw he was right. All the pancakes were ripped and smashed. “Whoops?” I laughed.

I put the pancakes in bowls and drizzled syrup of them.

I put forks in there and gave it to them.

“Wa la! Enjoy my world famous pancake soup.” I smiled and started eating.

Lilly gave me a funny look, along with Katie. “I can’t believe I’m your sister.” Lilly said shaking her head and taking a bite.

“Feeling the love.” I grumbled taking a bite.

“This isn’t actually that bad. It tastes just like normal pancakes.” Tony smiled and started digging in.

“I can’t believe I have a crush on him.” Lilly whispered to Katie.

Katie giggled and Tony’s face broke out into a smile, but dropped it when Lilly looked at him.

That little sneak. He was pretending he didn’t hear it.

I laughed and shook my head at him.

We finished eating our…ehh pancake soup….and got dressed to go train.

“So you guys go play on that playground gym type thing. Ashe and I have to go train.” I said.

Lilly gave me a hug and left with Katie and Tony.

“I swear. If I have to see him at all, I’m gonna flip.” I whispered to Ashe.

She nodded. “Let’s just stay hidden in the crowd.

“Okay everyone.” I stiffened when I heard Jake’s voice. “We are taking precautions with the rogue attacks. We haven’t had one in a while, so I suspect they are training. And that is exactly what we are going to do. I want everyone to be ready and stay on guard. Now let’s pick partners.”

Ashe and I looked at each other and we walked over to an open field.

“Ashe!” We both turned around to see David and Jake walking up too us. “Let’s go train.” David smiled reaching for Ashe’s hand.

She snapped her hand away from him and looped arms with me. “We are training together.”

David and Jake frowned. “But we always train together.”

“Sorry David. Avery and I are training together.”

“Avery?” Jake asked looking at me.

I glared at him and nodded. “Ashe and I are training together. So if you would, can you guys please leave us alone so we can get to training.”

Jake and David looked shocked at my tone and we even had some of the other pack members stop why they were doing and look at us.

“What happened?” Jake asked me.

“Nothing.” I snapped. “So. Please leave.”

“What’s going on?” John asked walking over to us with Stacy.

“Nothing.” I said.

“I don’t know.” Jake said looking at me sadly.

“We are trying to train here, but Jake and David interrupted us.” Ashe said looking at John.

“But what’s with all the yelling. You guys are mates.” Stacy said.

“Ya. I thought that too.” My voice was growing quieter.

Jake snapped his head to me and John and Stacy looked shocked. Along with my mom.

The pack members gasped and now everyone was watching us.

“Avery. We are mates.” Jake said confused.

“Really? You’re not acting like it.” I snapped.

Ashe and David were over by John and they were very quiet.

“How am I not acting like it?” Jake snapped getting angry.

All I saw was red. Is he that stupid?!

“Are you serious?!” I yelled my hands balling into fists.

Red has been very quiet these past days. She hasn’t tried to talk, and she is showing no signs of it either.

“What the hell are you talking about?!” Jake yelled back me.

I growled and punched him in the jaw.

He landed on the ground and I was breathing heavily.

“Ow.” He groaned in pain and rubbed his jaw.

“How dare you!” I yelled at him.

He got up and I saw his eyes flash to the glowing gray color.

“Why the hell did you just punch me?” Kaydon yelled.

I felt my eyes shift as well.

“Hmm I wonder. It’s a damn mystery to me!” I yelled.

“What happened?” John asked.

“Why don’t you ask your damn son what happened!” I yelled glaring at Jake.

“It’s kinda hard for him to do that when I don’t know what the hell you are talking about!” Jake growled at me.

I looked at him in shock. “How the hell do you not remember!” I growled at him and took a step forward. “I caught you kissing Sadie!”

Jake looked shocked and I heard everyone gasp.

“Is that true?” John asked Jake.

Jake opened his mouth but I beat him too it. “Yes it’s true! Remember when you asked me too meet you in your office. Ya, well after I was done with my shower, I walked over there. I opened the door and saw Sadie on your lap, and you guys were f@cking making out! What the hell! I’m your damn mate Jake! But whatever. I guess not anymore. Sorry I couldn’t be enough for you. Sorry you want better. Sorry I can’t make you happy!” I growled at him and punched him.

He went down again, but slowly stood up.

“Quit punching me!” He yelled at me.

I smirked. “Like this?” With thy I punched him one more time in the nose.

He went straight down.

“You know what Jake? If you don’t need me, then that’s fine.” I growled. “Because I certainly don’t need you.”

My yes went back to normal and I felt a tear slip out. He looked heartbroken.

I scoffed and grabbed Ashe’s hand and we ran into the forest to our favorite spot.

“I’m so proud of you.” Ashe smiled sadly and pulled me into a hug where I let it all out.

Jake

All day I have been wondering what I did. But now I got my answer.

“Quit punching me!” I yelled at her as I stood up.

She smirked. “Like this?”

I looked at her confused, but the next thing I know, her fist connected with my nose.

“Shit.” I said holding my nose. I could feel the blood come pouring out of it.

“You know what Jake? If you don’t need me, then that’s fine.” She growled. “Because I certainly don’t need you.”

I was heartbroken. Those six words.

Because I certainly don’t need you…

Those words were like a stab to the heart. Those words felt like I was dying.

I do need her. And she does need me.

I looked up at her and I was crying. I didn’t care who saw me.

She scoffed, and that’s when she grabbed Ashe’s hand and bolted out of here.

I slowly stood back up and watched them run.

“Are you out of your f@cking mind!” Mu dad growled at me.

I flinched but still stood there watching her.

“How could you do that too your damn mate! You only get one. And you just f@cking blew it!” He yelled.

I tore my eyes away from the forest and looked at him.

His eyes held so much disappointment and angry. My mom’s eyes were the same.

My pack members looked disgusted with me.

“But. I-I didn’t kiss Sadie.” I said still crying.

“What the hell do you mean?!” My dad yelled.

“That day when I asked her too meet me in my office. Sadie came in and she kissed me.” I said sadly.

Flashback

“I need to go do some paper work. Wanna come with?” I asked turning towards her.

“I have to take a shower first. Then I’ll be right down.” Avery said pecking my lips.

I smirked and opened my mouth to say something, but she quickly covered it. “Don’t even think about it.”

I growled and walked down the hall and slammed my office door.

‘Drama queen.’ I heard Avery teased.

‘Oh shut it.’ I joked laughing.

As I was doing my papers, I heard my office door open.

I put down my papers and smiled till I saw who it was.

“Sadie. What are you doing here?” I asked annoyed.

“I wanted to come see you.” She smiled seductively and walked over to where I was.

“Get out.” I growled as I turned in my chair towards her.

“But Jakey.” She said smiling.

I went to stand up, but she quickly dove on my lap and kissed me.

I was too shocked too move. And why do I smell Avery?

That thought went away when I tried to pry her off, but she must have felt it, because the next thing I know, is that her claws are out and digging into my back.

I cried out in pain and tried to get her off.

But every time I did that, she dug her claws in deeper.

‘Get off of me now!’ I yelled at her in my alpha voice through the mind link.

She whimpered and slowly slid off.

I grabbed her by the neck and slammed her against the wall.

“Don’t ever touch me again!” I growled still using my alpha voice. “Do you understand me?!”

She whimpered and gave me a small nod.

“Good. Now leave!” I yelled as I dropped her.

She quickly got up and ran out of the room.

I slammed back in my office chair and took a deep breathe.

‘David? Liam?’ I asked them.

‘Yes?’ They responded.

‘I want Sadie out of this pack.’

End of flashback.

“That’s what happened. I swear!” I said.

My dad looked me in the eye, and breathed a sigh of relief when he knew I was telling the truth.

“Let me check?” My mom said glaring at me. “I’ll be able to check if he’s lying.”

She looked me in the eye and studied me for a minute.

“He’s telling the truth.” My mom said relieved.

The pack members breathed a sigh of relief.

“I swear boy. You gave me a heart attack.” My mom growled.

“I’m sorry.”

“Where’s Sadie?!” My dad growled.

We looked around the pack and know one knew where she was.

“We haven’t seen her since last night alpha.” A warrior said to me.

I growled and so did my dad.

“Hmm.” Liam said looking around.

“What?” I asked him.

Everyone looked at him.

“I find this strange.” He said still looking around.

“What?” My dad asked.

“Haven’t you guys noticed that every time Sadie disappears, we have a rogue attack either the same day or in a couple of days.”

Oh my gosh…

“Do you think she is the reason why all the rogues know Avery is a fox spirit?” I asked.

“That means.” My dad started off. “Everyone be on the look out for Sadie. If you find her, tell me immediately and put her in a cell.”

“Yes sir.” They said.

“And we need to find Avery and Ashe!” My dad said.

We took some warriors and left to go find them.

I’m truly sorry Avery….
