Alyssa didn’t return to the party after she went outside after dancing with Dan. I questioned him about this, and he said she needed some air as she was not used to crowds yet. I understood what he meant and went outside to look for her.

“I smell her, Vincent,” Asterot said.

“I smell her, too; I’m following the trail,” I answered. After running on the sand for a while, I saw Alyssa standing alone when she crashed on the island when she first arrived in Varrfarrinn. What was she doing here? “Alyssa?” I called out. She turned to face me with a scared look. I think I spooked her.

“I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to scare you.” I apologized. “I worried about you when you didn’t return to the beach house.”

“My head is pounding, and I’ve been seeing visions of flying,” Alyssa said as she placed her hands on the sides of her head. “I’m seeing things that I don’t remember seeing,”

“You’re having flashbacks; your mind is making you remember forgotten events of the night you arrived here. The question is, what triggered it?” It soon dawned on me. “You’re head injury; I think that is the cause of these flashbacks.

“I’m only getting small bits and pieces of it. What happened that night?” Alyssa asked.

“You were wounded and exhausted. I shifted to meet you, but you were too weak to make it to the island, so I flew beneath you and carried you the rest of the way.” I explained.

“I remember everything.” Alyssa pointed to the place where she crashed. “This is where we landed, isn’t it,”

“Yes, it is,” I smiled.

Alyssa looked into my eyes; she knew I worried about her. I embraced her. “The pain comes and goes, but I feel better,” Alyssa said.

“I’m taking you to Doctor Solus,” I said.

“No, the pain will pass. I’m fine,” Alyssa took a few steps before she kneeled to the ground. I lowered myself to her level and tried to lift her into my arms, bridal style. “You can’t walk in this condition; I’m carrying you the rest of the way,”

But before I could carry her, she started to scream. “Alyssa! Please talk to me!” Her eyes were barely open, and her whole body was shaking. I brushed her hair out of her face; it was pale and drenched in sweat. I tried to carry her again, but she cried in pain, so I placed her back on the sand. “I’m calling Doctor Solus; just stay with me,” I said. I pulled out my phone, hoping that Solus would answer.

“This is Doctor Kaiden Solus speaking,” He answered.

“Kaiden, it’s Vincent. I need you to head to the beach; Alyssa has had these bad headaches but collapsed on the ground. She’s pale, she’s shaking, and I can’t move her without her crying out in pain.” I said.

“Where are you, your highness?” Doctor Solus said.

“At the southern beach, where we first found Alyssa,” I said.

“I’ll apparate over there. I’ll be there soon,” Doctor Solus hung up.

I looked back at Alyssa and noticed her eyes were open again. “Stay calm; help is on the way.

“I know you’re my mate,” Alyssa said suddenly. “Alexandria thought you already told me.”

“Don’t worry about that right now; we will talk about that later. Right now, I want you to focus on your breathing. Please take it easy.” I then heard a loud noise, and Dorcot Solus appeared before me.

“Step aside,” Solus said, and I obeyed. “Alyssa, can you hear me?

“Ye-yes,” Alyssa said weakly. “What’s happening to me?”

“When did the headaches start again?” Doctor Solus said.

“They started again last night but only started to get pretty bad this morning,” Alyssa said.

“You knew she had these headaches!?” I growled.

“Not now, Vincent. Why didn’t you come and see me? I could have helped,” Doctor Solus asked,

“I didn’t want to make a fuss over nothing,” Alyssa explained.

“This doesn’t look like nothing to me,” Doctor Solus huffed.

“Alyssa told me that she started remembering the day she arrived here,” I said.

Doctor Solus goes into his pocket and pulls out a pen; he turns on the light. “Open your eyes for me, Alyssa,”

“I watch as the doctor shines the light into Alyssa’s eyes. At first, they seemed to react normally, but I noticed her eye color turned to gold for a split second. “Oh goddess,” I said.

Doctor Solus placed his pen on her forehead and whispered words of magic.

Alyssa screamed as a pulse of magic knocked us back. What the hell was that? I got up and saw Alyssa, who was not moving. I tried to run to her, but a hand held me back. “Let go of me; my mate needs me!”

“Stay back, son,” Doctor Solus said.

“What did you do!?” My eyes turned white.

“I didn’t do that. I was trying to find the cause of Alyssa’s pain.” Doctor Solus said.

I tried to reach her, but the doctor stopped me again. “If you don’t unhand me this instant, I will personally send you to the goddess,” I snarled.

“I’ll let you go, but you can’t go near her,” Doctor Solus said.

“What the hell are you talking about? You’re not making any sense,” I said.

“That blast of magic came from Alyssa,” Doctor Solus explained. “Turn on your dragon vision, and you’ll understand.”

I opened my eyes to see the world through Astarot’s eyes. I saw a golden light enveloping Alyssa. What was this magic protecting her? I should be able to touch her as she is my mate, but Solus didn’t want to leave it to chance. I looked at Solus with confusion. “How is this possible?”

“I felt something different when trying to find what was causing her pain. But I guess I triggered some defense mechanism,”

“No dragon can use magic when they are in human form,” I said.

“Alyssa’s a gold dragon, the limit of their abilities has always been shrouded in mystery.” Doctor Solus said.

“But Dahlia, Alyssa’s dragon, is dormant,” I said. “Astarot tried communicating with her when he noticed her presence, but she never answered his call.”

“I think the blow to her head triggered something; If I’m correct, Dahlia is waking up.” Doctor Solus smiled.

“By the Goddess,” I gasped.
