The Dragon Prince
A Horrific Encounter

Alyssa

“Oh no, we’re stuck in here with him!” Dahlia’s voice was laced with fear.

“You looked scared dearie,” Devin laughed as he gave me a devilish smile. He was playing with me.

“How are you doing this?” I demanded him.

“You mean, how is my face a dragon, but my body is still sexy?” Devin laughed. “What so you think?”

“They experimented on you!” The flash of realization hit me like a ton of bricks.

“DING DING DING! We have a winner!” Devin smiled.

I stayed as far away from him as I could. Maybe if I keep him talking, he won’t burn me alive. I hope that Alexandria and Izzy can break down the door.

“Why are you helping them? Look at what they did to you!” I said.

“They made me stronger, Alyssa. More powerful than you!” Devin flexed his body.

“You think I can’t see how much pain you are in right now,” I said.

“A small sacrifice for so much power. When I was human, I was nothing!” Devin growled. “Now look at me!” He extended his arms as he basked in his glory. “I’M PERFECTION!”

Wait, did he say human? I thought they only experimented on magical beings.

“You were human?” My face showed a shocked expression.

“Surprise,” Devin winked.

“You said something before. Sozin? Who is that?” I asked him.

“We are his warriors!” Devin roared. Devin pulled on the chain that kept him locked. With three powerful pulls, the chains snapped; they now hung around his wrists. He smiled at me with his deformed mouth. “Enough talking!”

He lunged at me, teeth bared. I barely managed to dove to the side, so he only grabbed air. “Devin, you don’t have to do this,” I pleaded for him to stop.

“Oh, but I do dearie,” Devin laughed maniacally.

“Dahlia, can we transform in here?” I started panicking. “I need you!”

“The room is too small! We can’t do anything!” Dahlia panicked.

“I know what your thinking, dearie. This room is too tiny to turn. I can use most of my powers without shifting entirely,” Devin cackled.

I could see fire building up in his throat. Without thinking, I dove at him. I was on top of him and punched him in the face as hard as possible. I yelled out as I felt the bones in my hand breaking on the impact of his hard scales. I could hear the devilish laugh from Devin as he heard me cry out. He pushed me off him.

“You really aren’t the brightest are you sunshine?” Devin scoffed.

Devin then grabbed me by the neck and threw me across the room. I hit the wall hard before falling to the floor. He picked me up the hair, and I screamed in pain, as it felt like my scalp would be torn off.

He slammed me hard against the wall, holding my neck with one arm. I tried to loosen the hold, but he was too strong. My lungs were screaming for oxygen.

I remembered his broken arm, which he held close to his body. I grabbed his broken hand and twisted it as hard as possible. Devin screamed in pain and released his hand from my throat. I collapsed to the ground and gasped for air.

“YOU FILTHY BITCH!” I saw Devin’s eyes glow bright red, and once again, a fire built up in his throat and fired a fireball that I barely managed to avoid. I could feel the air getting thinner; his fire magic was burning up the oxygen. I could see that this affected Devin; I kept seeing him taking short breaths.

“You’ll kill us both if you keep breathing fire!” I coughed.

“I don’t care if I die. I’m willing to pay the price if it means you die with me!” Devin sneered.

“Why do you want to kill me so badly?” I said.

“Because you ruined everything! When you escaped, they stopped giving me injections. This pain I’m in is because of you!” Devin said.

Then, he threw a punch that I quickly avoided. I kicked him hard on his ribs in retaliation. I grabbed his side.

“You’re blaming me for what they did to you! You’re fucking insane!” I said.

“Maybe,” Devin knocked me to the ground, and now he was on top of me. My unbroken hand was stuck between my body and his leg. He sat on top of me, smiling down at me. I saw the door turning red from the corner of my eye. Alexandria and Izzy were melting the door, but I knew they wouldn’t arrive. “It was good seeing you again; say hello to the Moon Goddess,” Devin said. He closed his eyes momentarily, and I wondered what he was doing. I soon saw his jaw getting bigger, and his teeth grew bigger. He could take my head off in one bite if he wanted to.

“Dahlia, help me. Do somthing!” I begged her.

Out of desperation, I placed my broken hand on his chest, trying to push him off me. Devin laughs at my futile efforts and opens his mouth.

I could feel tears streaming down my eyes. This was not how I wanted to die, not that I ever wanted to die, just not like this.

“HOLD ON WE ARE COMING, ALYSSA!” Isabella yelled. I knew they would not get here in time. I cried out in pain when I tried to push harder with my broken hand. His mouth was now centimeters from my face, and I could see way down his throat. Then his mouth closed, and he looked at me all puzzled.

“What are you doing?” Devin’s voice was very understandable. He then screamed in pain and placed his hand on his chest; my hand was glowing golden light. I looked back at Devin and saw a hole in his shirt. Devin looked startled. I managed to stand up as he got off me and took a few steps away from him. I could feel the heat radiating off my hand. I felt the broken bones in my hand start putting themselves back in place. It hurt at first, but the pain quickly passed. “Dahlia, are you doing this?”

“No, we are!” Dahlia said.

Devin was not expecting me to fight back, but he quickly got over his shocked expression, and anger swiftly took over. He lunged at me once again. I reached out my glowing hand and concentrated its energy on him; the light shined brighter, and a beam of light shot out of my hand and hit Devin in the chest. He flung back and crashed into the wall; he fell to the ground and didn’t get back up. A few moments later, the door fell.

“ALYSSA! Are you alright?” Izzy said as she ran in with Tristan and Alexandria. “Alyssa?”

I soon realized that my hand was still outstretched and glowing golden light.

“Alyssa, are you alright?” Alex said. “Alyssa, look at me,”

“He’s dead,” Tristan said as he checked Devin’s pulse.

“He’s dead, it’s okay,” Izzy said.

“I-I killed him!” I breathed hard.

“Good fucking riddence if you ask me,” Alex looked at Devin’s dead body. “Now, may be you please put your hand down, before you blow someone or somthing up,” Alexandria said.

I looked at my glowing hand and gently put my arm down. With a few deep breaths, I returned my hand to normal. “How the hell did you do that?” Izzy asked.

“I don’t know,” I said as I looked at Devin. His face was still like a deformed dragon, but his eyes had lost all the color, nothing but black eyes. I don’t know what I think next, but I ran outside. As I exited the prison, I threw up. Izzy was by my side, holding my hair back.

“What the hell happened?” Scott said.

“The fire dragon is dead,” Alex shook her dead.

“I thought we were trying to get information, not kill him,” Scott scoffed.

“I wasn’t the one that killed him,” Alex said.

“Then who did?!” Scott breathed out.

“I killed him,” I said softly.

“Damn girl, isn’t that three dragon in the last day?” Scott smiled.

“That was uncalled for,” Alex smacked Scott on the head. “What the hell happened in there,” Alex asked me.

“Give her some space, Alexandria! She almost died because of your great idea!” Isabella growled.

“He was severely beaten, chained to the fucking floor, and had draconite around his damn neck. That should have been enough to keep him docile,” Alex said.

“Should have been” is not an excuse! You should have never put her in there in the first place!” Izzy shouted.

“Guys, stop. I just vomited everything I ate from last week,” I said.

“Got get somthing to eat with Isabella, we will talk later,” Alex said.

“Now that is the smartest thing you’ve said all day,” Izzy growled, taking me back to her house. “Take a shower and borrow some of my clothes. I looked at my tattered clothing; most of it was singed.

“Annabeth, I’m home!” Izzy said.

“Oh thank the goddess, I was getting worries as you haven;t been answering my-” Annabeth soon caught a glimpse at my appearance. My hair is a mess; I have torn, blood-covered clothes, and to top it all off, I have some vomit in my hair.

“Great eastern fairies, what the hell happened to you?!” Annabeth covered her mouth in horror.

“I’ll let Isabella explain. I need a shower,” I walked to the bathroom and removed my clothes. I stepped into the shower and turned the water on. I allowed the hot water to run down my back, washing away the dirt and dried blood on my body and watching it disappear down the drain. I looked at my wholly healed hand, but I still had cuts and bruises all over my body.

“The light heals,” I could feel Dahlia smile.

“Or kills,” I added.

“You had no other choice; it was him or us,” Dahlia growled. “His soul is burning in hell for all of eternity,”

I stayed in the shower for a while, thinking of the events from the last day. I killed three dragons. Zayne is dead, and Rosetta is fighting for her life and these strange powers. Here, I could have a better life, marry Vincent, become his queen, and give birth to his children.

“We could still have that future, you know,” Dahlia cooed.

“We almost died twice tonight, how could we ever hope for a better future?” I screamed in my head.

“We fight for it, all the shit we’ve been through together, we deserve happiness,” Dahlia said.

Whatever these powers were, they are something I have to work on.

Vincent

The nurse said I was sedated because of my outburst at the news of my dad’s death. I feel the pain of losing my dad; the bond I shared with my father broke when he died, and I felt a piece of me went with him. “I hope you found peace in the embrace of the goddess Dad,” I said.

I tried to get out of bed and start walking. I have to find Alyssa. My connection to her is weak, but I feel she’s in pain and emotionally hurting. “Don’t even think about getting out of bed,” My sister ordered. I looked at the door and saw Alexandria giving me her stare. “I will have the doctor sedate you again.

“Okay, I won’t. I wanted to apologize to Alyssa. So it’s true, dad is really gone?” I said.

Alex sat right next to me and hugged me. “Yeah, I still don’t have any news on Mom. Those rat bastards haven’t told me anything for ages. I think she’s still in surgery,”

“Any idea who’s behind this?” I asked her. Alex rubbed her neck and smiled. “There’s something you’re not telling me,”

Alexandria then told me the events that had transpired in the last few hours. The drawing she found in the study with Isabella incriminates the same people that took Alyssa and her killing that fire dragon when she was locked inside with him.

“Where is she now?” I asked.

“I told Izzy to bring her to the hospital over the phone a while ago, but I don’t think they are here.” Alex said.

I got up, faced Alex, and punched her in the face. “How dare you put my mate in danger like that! She almost died!” I roared.

“I was desperate for answers, I know I screwed up. Please calm down,” Alex said.

“Calm down? CALM DOWN! You jeopardized the life of my soulmate. You have no right to tell me to calm down! I need to see if she’s alright,”

“It won’t help her if you get herself hurt looking for her. You are not leaving this hospital until the doctors say you can,” Alex said.

“But-”

“I AM NOT LOSING YOU TOO!” Alexandria shouted, and it took me by surprise.

“Is everything alright in here?” Dr. Solus walked into my hospital room with another doctor.

“We’re fine,” Alex quickly composed herself.

“Good. Jacob told me you were in here, Alex. I have news on your mother; she is out of surgery,” Dr. Solus smiled.

“She’s alive?!” I beamed a quick smile.

“She is. This is Dr. Turner, she the oe who was oparting on your mother,” Dr. Solus said.

“By the time we stabilize her, your mother lost a lot of blood. The bullet almost hit her heart, but it did damage around it, and the next two days are critical. We are keeping her in a medical induced coma, so her body can focus on healing. It’s too soon to tell if she will make it,” Dr. Turner said.

“Thank you Karliah,” Dr. Solus said before she left the room.

“You sure there is nothing we can do?” Alex said.

“Dr. Turner is one of the best surgeons in the world. Add the fact that she is a witch, she’s damn good at her job,” Dr. Solus vouching for his friend and colleague. “Get some rest, especially you, Alexandria.

“Alright, I’ll see you later, Vinnie,” Alex smiled.

“Take care of everyone, Alex. Protect them all,” I said.

Alex smiled and then closed the door behind her as she left.

“Now, let’s have a look at you,” Dr. Solus said. “Your shoulder seems to be healing well; there will be some scarring but nothing major,”

“But can I leave?” I said with annoyance.

“I don’t recommend that,” Dr. Solus said.

“Then how long do I have to stay?” I huffed.

“Bed rest for the next two days. Give Astarot the time he needs to recover his powers. Can you reach him?” Dr. Solus asked.

“Fuck off, I’m busy healing him,” Astarot said as he took control briefly.

“Well, that answers my question. I will check on you tomorrow to see if we can compromise for your early release,” Dr. Solus said. “I will send it Jacob, he wants to speak with you,”

“Understood,” I nodded. Dr. Solus left the room and, in his place, came in my best friend, Jacob.

“Hey bro, how are you holding up?” Jacob said.

“Like shit. I screamed at Alyssa,” I said with shame.

“Yeah, I won’t lie to you, man; that wasn’t pretty,” Jacob laughed nervously.

“I want to apologize, but the doctors won’t let me leave,” I said.

“She will forgive you, you know. Alyssa knew you were hurting; she knows the pain of losing a parent. Have you tried calling her?” Jacob said.

“I don’t know where my phone is,” I said. “I also tried to use the mind link but couldn’t get through,”

“Use my phone,” Jacob smiled as he dialed Alyssa’s number and handed me his phone.

“Hello?” Alyssa said.

“Alyssa, I’m so happy to hear your voice.” I said.

“Vincent? Why do you have Jacob’s phone?” Alyssa asked me.

“That’s not importent right now, I want to apoligize for what I said to you,” I said.

“I’m not mad, Vincent. I understand the pain of losing a parent. Don’t worry, I’m not angry at you,” Alyssa said.

“Can you come over? I want to see you in the flesh, to know you’re alright,” I said.

“I see Alex told you to want happened; I’ll be over at the hospital in a bit,” Alyssa said. She hung up, and I gave the phone back to Jacob.

“She will be here soon,” I smiled.
