EMILY KING POV

We walk through the crowd until we arrive at a big hall.

Joel called it a Throne Room where the King and Queen sat at the golden chairs prepared at the stage.

The hall was flooded with peoples chatters and laughter.

A few minutes later, the King and Queen enter and sit on the throne chair. The announcer came forward at the other side and talked about the dances. Everyone cheers at the announcer’s words.

I elbowed Joel’s side to get his attention.

“Ow!" he grunted in pain.

“What’s the name of the King and Queen?”

“King Blake and Queen Maddie, why?“

“No-nothing.” I stutter as another memory flash through my mind.

I immediately cover my mouth to avoid myself from yelping in pain. Joel pulled my head at the crook of his neck as he stroke my hair gently.

A small tear escaped my eyes.

I can’t bear the pain.

It’s too much.

“Shh! Don’t cry. Don’t push yourself too much, remember?“ Joel whispers to me.

I wiped my tears away as the music started and everyone begins to dance.

Joel put my hand on his neck as he holds my waist.

“Why do you have to attend this ball dance?” I asked him.

“Its a rule.” his face turned solemn.

“That’s weird.”

“Anyone who did not attend this ball dances will be considered as an enemy.”

“And now it sounds ridiculous. So, there’s no harm inside this hall, right?”

“Wrong.“ he smirks.

“What do you mean?” Curiosity struck me.

“People inside this hall is full of trick, you see,”

“Including you?”

“Yes, of course.”

I gasped and pulls away from his embrace. Joel chuckles and embraced me.

“Sorry, I was just kidding,” he said, making me sigh in relief.

He pulls back and the music stopped.

The King rises up as everyone falls into silence.

“It was a great honour that you came to this ball dances tonight. You must be surprised that this is my first time to speak after a ball dance. Again, thank you for coming to my palace today.”

He turns around to lock his gaze with the Queen. The Queen nods her head to urge him to go on.

“I apologize in advanced. We needed to search you before you step out of this place. Thank you for your cooperation.”

He ended his speech as the Queen rose from her seat and whisper to him with a grave look. The King grabs the Queen's shoulders and shakes his head. They walk towards the entrance and the crowds walk past after getting checked. Some of them were quite angry.

Joel kept his word all along to stay with me even when pretty girls try to flirt with him here and there. It’s a good thing because I keep feeling uncomfortable with the glares I receive from a few people and a few guards towards me.

“Hello there, Blake.” Joel greeted the King.

“Well, look who’s here.” the King cold voice made me snapped my head towards him.

“Guards!!” the king yell and both of us were immediately chained from behind in a quick movement.

Both of us were dragged into a corridor until we come to its ends. My eyes went wide in horror at the sight before me.
