“No! No! No! No! Aww.” Vath groaned as his health bar hit zero and his character died with a dramatic cry. However, the other two boys were too focused on their deathmatch to take much notice. The first boy was named Rhys, and he had blonde hair, with blue eyes that matched Morgan’s. His wings were red, and flecked with copper. Rhys was incredibly skinny, his arms and legs like sticks poking out of his clothes. The second one had introduced himself as Shrike. He apparently was Raven’s cousin, although he looked like her twin. Like her, he had dark green eyes. His hair was much shaggier than Raven’s, but it was the same inky black color. He had tattoos like tiger stripes across his cheeks, and his wings were jade green, with bits of gold. Shrike seemed as pale as Rhys was skinny.

“Nuh-uh!” Shrike yelled. “Don’t you dare grab that power up…”

“Mine!” Rhys yelled back as his character jumped for the glowing orb.

“Noooo!” Shrike yelled in frustration as his character exploded. He threw down his controller as Rhys laughed manically. A timer in the corner of the screen read 3:49.

“Noobs!” he yelled, dancing around the room.

“Vath’s a noob.” Shrike protested. “I created the damn game.”

“Well you suck at your own game!” Rhys shot back.

Vath shook his head and laughed to himself. The two boys had invited Vath into Shrike’s room to teach him how to play video games. Vath had no idea what kind of magicks it took to put this together, but he was impressed. A lighted screen showed their three characters, two lying on the ground and one parading around in a fashion similar to what Rhys was doing now. A thick string connected that to a peculiar looking box, and more strings connected the box to what Shrike and Rhys called the controllers.

“I call winner.” Morgan piped up from the doorway. Vath twisted around on the couch and smiled when he saw her. She came around the front of the couch, plopping down next to him. Rhys reassumed his seat, perching on the arm of the couch. The character select screen appeared, and Rhys picked the same one he did last time. Morgan took Vath’s controller, and went to an icon that said CODE ENTER on the bottom left side of the screen. She entered in her code, and her character was selected.

“What? Not fair!” Rhys protested.

“She knows the code, it’s fair game.” Shrike shrugged.

The match started, and Vath immediately saw why Rhys was dismayed. Morgan’s character was fast, throwing out multiple strikes over a wide area. It was nearly impossible to avoid. When Rhys’ character keeled over, the timer in the corner read 00:49.

“Boom.” Morgan said, dropping the controller in her lap.

“Goddammit! Screw you! Try it without your fuckin cheat code!” Rhys yelled. Morgan laughed and leaned back, resting her head on Vath’s shoulder. Vath smiled, wrapping an arm around her. He had never been happier.
