“Skyler is nothing like Leopold. His immaturity is as glaring as a beacon in the night, his mind often in a whimsical haze. If I didn't keep my eyes on him constantly, goodness knows what could happen.” murmured Tanya.

Jessica said, "Skyler seems alright to me, sharp and considerate. I think you're selling him short." Tanya peeled an almond on the table, popped it into her mouth, and bit down hard.

She wanted a son who hung on her every word, not sungrateful rebel who'd bite the hand that fed him.

It drove her up the wall whenever she saw him toddling after Aurelia, calling her "Angel" all the time.

He was like Aurelia's little lapdog, utterly brainwashed.

"I guess I've been a bit hands-off with him. Maybe the illness has gotall worked up, worrying about him being all alone, with nobody to turn to if I were to pass." "But you're on the mend, right?" Jessica consoled. "You're looking more radiant by the day. And with all the folks around the house, how could he ever be left alone? We'll all look after him." Tanya sighed, deftly changing the subject. "You've got your issues these days, Jessica. What's the plan with Megan?" "We've got to root out whoever has been messing around with Megan," Jessica said, her lips tightening. "As for dealing with her, that's a decision for Leopold after he's out of the hospital." From this, Tanya was sure Jessica hadn't pushed for a paternity test for the child and Megan. Common sense dictated that the child could only be unrelated to the father, not the mother, so there would be no need for a test with her.

"Can't believe Megan could stoop so low. Unearthing her baby’s dad won't be easy, right?" "Not necessarily," Jessica said, sipping her coffee calmly. "The kid doesn't resemble Megan, so he must take after the father. Just need to see who in the family he looks like, and we'll be pretty close to the truth." Tanya's heart skipped a beat. The child does resemble his father, and her secret would be out if they got recognized. She had to regain custody of the child and fast.

"You've mentioned the child wouldn't go to the Stirling Mansion. Is he to be raised in Leopold's villa then?" "Bastards should be exiled! That's the Stirling family rule," Jessica said, her voice suddenly darkening. "Leopold bought an island in international waters. The plan is to banish him there with a couple of nannies to watch over him. He'll spend the rest of his days on that island." A sharp pang coursed through Tanya's heart, thinking Jessica was ruthless, banishing a child to an island. Was it the plan to turn him into a wild man? "How could a child so young possibly survive alone on an island?" Tanya couldn't help but ask.

"No need to fret," Jessica drawled. "The island's got all the amenities and everything he needs. He won't die." Tanya felt her insides twist in agony, cursing her carelessness. She had thought the Stirling family would neglect the child before the paternity test, so she had arranged for only one person to protect him.

She hadn't anticipated they'd snatch him away outright.

"If Megan finds out, she'll raise hell. She won't just stand by and watch her child sent to an island." Jessica scoffed. "Let her make a fuss. She should be grateful that we didn't lock her up and punish her." At that moment, Tanya felt like a seismic wave was crashing through her, each cell screaming and trembling.

If anything happened to her grandson, she'd ensure he wasn't the only one to suffer.

That old devil had gone too far.

She sipped her coffee, struggling to stifle her emotions and remain calm.

She couldn't afford to give herself away.

"Jessica, it's the adults’ fault, but the child is innocent. Isn't this a bit too cruel?"
