Megan and Jewel approached the grand facade of Stirling Mansion, its ivy-covered walls looming like sentinels of an ancient realm.

Megan couldn't care less about the where the child was. It wasn’t her child. What did his fate have to do with her anyway? But Jewel had insisted, practically dragging her along to unearth the child's whereabouts, so she had to bite the bullet and face the intimidating Stirling family.

Before long, the butler appeared, his posture rigid and formal.

“Lady Jessica is out for the weekend, and the Stirling Mansion is not receiving guests today,” he announced curtly.

Megan blinked in surprise. “Where did Jessica go?” “She’s taken a short weekend getaway,” the butler replied lightly.

A silent exchange passed between Megan and Jewel. Jessica still had the mood for weekend trips? It seemed Leopold was on the mend. Perhaps he'd leave the hospital soon.

“I'm here to see my child. Leopold had someone fetch him yesterday,” said Megan.

“There have been no children brought to Stirling Mansion,” the butler stated indifferently.

Megan was incredulous. “That's impossible. If my child wasn’t here, where else could he be?” “l am but a butler. I do not inquire into the affairs of the master. If nothing else, I must ask you to leave,” the butler said, turning to depart, only to be stopped by Megan's firm grip. “What about Aurelia? Is she here?” “Mrs. Stirling is also out,” he replied.

The title of “Mrs. Stirling” set Megan ablaze with anger, her temper flaring up instantly.

“Mrs. Stirling? She divorced Leopold ages ago. She's no longer Mrs. Stirling! I am Leopold's wife, your respectable Mrs. Stirling!” The butler replied coolly, “The mother of the young master, Kane, is always Mrs. Stirling, which is the rules of the Stirling family.” The injustice of it was too much for Megan. If it weren't for Kane, that wretched brat, Aurelia would have been booted from the Stirling family long ago.

And the damned kid Kane seemed to have a charmed life, surviving against all odds.

Meanwhile, her child had the misfortune of vanishing shortly after birth without even knowing if it was a boy or a girl.

She couldn't help but think it was due to Kane's cursed luck.

“I have given birth to a young master for the Stirling family, too. My child is legitimate. I am the real Mrs. Stirling.” The butler was not interested in a battle of wits. “If nothing else, I must ask you to leave. Good day,” he said, not waiting for a response before returning to the house.

Fuming, Megan felt surrounded by snobs, all too eager to dismiss her, thinking Leopold would divorce her and cast her aside.

Jewel stood by her side, her expression grave.

“If the child was not at Stirling Mansion, where could he be?” “Possibly at one of Leopold's other properties,” Megan ventured. “He has so many houses. He might just have tucked away the child in any of them.” Jewel scoffed, “Do you think he would still look after him if he conducted the paternity test and found out the child wasn't his? Unlikely.” The fear was that Leopold might have disposed of the child secretly in a fit of rage.

With his power, it would be effortless for him to make an infant disappear without a trace.

Megan hoped that Leopold would believe her and find their child.

Even if he despised her, he wouldn't stand idly by as his flesh and blood suffered at the hands of kidnappers.

“Let's just head back for now.” Meanwhile, Jessica and Tanya were enjoying coffee in the garden at the Mossy Rock Retreat.

Skyler, Leah, and Sierra had gone with the servants to Harmony Gardens to pick roses.

Aurelia headed to the study, where Leopold was waiting.

She offered him a peeled apple and mused, “I wonder how much this child weighs in Geoffrey and Tanya's hearts.” The more significant the child was in their hearts, the greater the leverage Leopold held.

Leopold's thin lips curled into a mocking, cold smile. “If there is a genetic disease, conceiving a healthy child wouldn't be an easy task.” “We'll wait for Geoffrey to cand save his child then,” Aurelia said slyly, determined to flush him out from whatever shadow he was hiding in, no longer allowing him to harm from the dark.

Leopold raised his hand to pat her head. “Be extra cautious lately. Desperate times can make a dog jump over a wall.” “Instruct the guards to step up the protection at school. Keeping Kane safe is the most important,” Aurelia stated.

Leopold had already considered that.
