Aurelia let out a teasing laugh. “Aren’t you just muddying your waters? Now, everyone sees you as a heartbreaker, a Casanova who loves women and leaves them. You can’t blBeverley, can you?” Leopold pressed a hand to his forehead. “Is that what you think of me, too?” “You did abandon me, and that’s a fact,” Aurelia shot back without missing a beat.

Just knowing you're alive is a comfort to me.” He turned and walked to the window, gazing into the blackness of the Twilight Club outside. “It was my negligence that put you and Liam in danger. I failed to protect you, so fate took you away from me.” He faced her again, his gaze unwavering, pain spreading across his handsfeatures. Then, like a gust of wind, he rushed over and pulled her into a fierce embrace.

“I can’t make the smistake again. I can’t lose you, Aurelia.” Her heart surged like a tidal wave, a stampede of emotions overwhelming her.

She had kept Liam's secret for so long, a tinge of guilt in her heart. But until the threat of AK Group was neutralized, she couldn't reveal Liam's true identity, or he'd be in as much danger as Kane.

“I'm not that important to you,” she said, her voice distant. “If we hadn't met that summer in Hawaii, you'd have forgottenin a couple of years, found a new pretty wife, and started a new life.” “My heart belongs to you and no one else,” he declared with certainty, but Aurelia was wary of believing him.

“You once said you'd only marry once and that I'd be your only wife, yet you still went ahead and married Megan.” As Aurelia said so, a mocking smile played on her lips.

She had believed his words once, only to be left heartbroken.

She was soberly aware, far from ready to trust any word he said.

His words hit Leopold like a blow. He managed a wry, helpless smile.

“So, no matter what I say now, you won't believe me?” “That's right.” she nodded unflinchingly.

He sighed deeply, realizing only when he had set everything right could he hope to make her understand his intentions.

“One day, I'll offer my heart to you so you can see everything.” “I hope that day comes.” Only then would she dare to consider remarrying him, to bury the hatchet.

Just then, Kane knocked on the door. He recounted the day’s events to his parents.

Aurelia’s heart lurched into her throat.

They had suspected AK Group before but hadn't expected things to escalate so quickly. Luckily, Kane had dodged a bullet.

“From now on, let's have lunch at home. It's safer,” she said.

“Okay,” Kane agreed, nodding. “We've got to figure out how to save Ramona’s parents.”
