Zack and Jolin casually handed an envelope to Lilith, "Here's to a lifetof happiness and to starting a family soon." Lilith stood up and plopped down on the couch, pulling out the cash from the envelope to count it.

"Eight grand in one day. Jackpot," she mused.

She didn't even bother to count the measly sum Rahul and Perla had given.

"Ritchie," she scoffed, addressing Ritchie, "your mom keeps talking about how we're the rich family. The rich family is like Uncle Zack and Aunt Jolin's place. I've never seen such penny-pinching. They act high and mighty, but they are stingy. " She spat on the floor in disgust.

Emma used to have her fair share of arguments with Perla, but she was an educated woman, not one to make a scene. Lilith, however, was a different breed, and she could wail, make a scene, and threaten to walk out if she didn't get her way. Her flair for was every bit as good as Perla's.

Ritchie had a particular talent for ignoring domestic storms, deeply engrossed in his video games, the very picture of an absentee manager.

At that moment, he was already glued to his smartphone's screen, annoyed, "If you think it's too little, go ask my mom. It's got nothing to do with me. Leaveout of it, and I'm gaming." Perla was fuming, "Every penny in this house is under my watch. Whatever you got, you'll end up giving it toanyway." Lilith sneered, "In your dreams, lady. This gift is mine. Why should I hand it over to you?" Perla was livid at the thought of Lilith pocketing the gift money for herself.

"You little brat, think you can run this place? Hand over the money right now." As she lunged for Lilith's purse, she underestimated her strength, honed from years of farm work. Lilith easily pushed her away.

Perla staggered backward, nearly toppling over, but Rahul caught her just in time.

Lilith snorted, "Mom, don't push me. I'll fight back if I have to." Aurelia sat on the other sofa, munching on a slice of watermelon, passing one to Emma.

"Just here for the show," she quipped.

Lilith was proving to be a far more formidable opponent than Emma ever was.

Emma watched with a mix of horror and glee. It seemed Ritchie had married a force of nature, a match for his feisty mother. The household was sure to be a circus.

Ritchie played his gwith detached calm, acting as if the quarreling duo were complete strangers, not his wife and mother.

Perla shook with rage, "You little hussy if you don't givethe money, you're not setting foot in my house again." Lilith stuck out her tongue mockingly, "That house belongs to my husband Ritchie, not you. The deed's got his non it. I heard the down payment wasn't even yours, and it was Grandma's money, and the mortgage is being paid by Aurelia. So, you've got no claim over it. You're just squatting. What right do you have to throwout?" Perla was on the verge of exploding. She swung at Lilith, "I'll teach you, you little tramp. You think you can turn this place upside down on your first day? Watch how I deal with you." With a swift slap, Lilith's hand connected with Perla's face, sending stars across her vision. She had never lost a fight back in her village.

Stunned, Perla gasped, "You dare to strike me?" Hands on her hips, Lilith glared back, "I warned you don't mess with me. I've never lost a fight." Perla clutched her chest as if suffocating. Collapsing onto the floor, she burst into tears.

"Ritchie, where did you find the bitch? She's going to kill me."
