Aurelia simply couldn't empathize with her.

This was no mere outpouring of grief for her sister; rather, it was a blatant display of her connection with the big boss, a power play.

There was no humility in her actions at all!

“Excuse me, I've arranged to grab a bite with some colleagues. I'll take my leave now.”

She turned on her heels and left.

A sardonic smirk tugged at the corners of Evelyn's lips. She never did take Aurelia seriously.

To her, Aurelia was nothing more than a small fish in a big pond, with no money or influential background to back her up, she was no competition.

Aurelia arrived at the Starry Bites Diner.

Upstairs in one of the private dining rooms, her colleagues had already ordered.

Lily and Gary, much like Aurelia, were outcasts in their department, constantly overlooked and oppressed by Kelly. They never really had a chance to shine.

When Evelyn hosted a dinner yesterday, she only invited the higher-ups, neglecting Lily and Gary. The lines of social hierarchy in their department had been drawn clear.

"Evelyn is just a carbon copy of Kelly,” Jenny muttered with a hint of annoyance.

"Have you all heard about her relationship with the big boss?” Gary asked in a hushed tone.

“Her sister was the big boss’ first love. After her sister passing, the big boss only then got engaged to Ms. Elowen. This is common knowledge around the office. You should see how Emma and her gang suck up to Evelyn, it's downright disgusting!” Lily spat out.

Darcy chuckled, “Isn't that how they climbed the corporate ladder to become senior designers? By sucking up to Kelly?”

A worried look crossed Jenny's face. “I'm worried that the position of director has already been reserved for Evelyn. The big boss only arranged for Aurelia to compete against her as a stepping stone.”

Her words cast a shadow over the group.

Aurelia took a sip of her juice. She vowed to never be anyone's stepping stone. If the big boss had such intentions, she would fight till the end.

She didn't work her butt off to be cannon fodder for his favored ones!

“The competition hasn't even started yet, why are you guys losing hope? The most important factor in a competition is capability, while her connection might not be as beneficial as you think.”

She covered her mouth, lowering her voice, “Do you know why Ms. Elowen came to me just now? It was because of Evelyn. Her sister was the big boss’ first love, wouldn't Ms. Elowen feel threatened? Ms. Elowen never treated me kindly before, but now it seems like she is willing to unite with me against a common enemy,”

With that, she burst into laughter, instantly boosting the group’s morale. They joined her in laughter.

Lily looked intrigued, “Do you guys think Evelyn and the big boss could be...you know?"

Jenny nulled a face “She's definitely infatuated with the big boss. He's young, handsome, perfect, successful; what woman wouldn't be attracted? Maybe she came back not only for the position of director, but also to become the boss” wife.”

“Then she would undoubtedly have to fight tooth and nail with Ms. Elowen. We could just sit back and reap the benefits,” Darcy chuckled.

Aurelia had the same thoughts, she wasn't planning on joining the chaos and becoming cannon fodder!

"Come on guys, to our future as a team. We'll share the good times and face the tough times together!”

“Here here! If we follow Aurelia, we can’t go wrong!” Everyone raised their glasses, the clinking sounds like melodious bells on the table.”

Later that night, Aurelia invited Emily, the director of the Human Resources Department, for dinner and gave her a gift she brought back from France. Emily was someone Aurelia deeply respected within the company.

Upon returning to her apartment, she was surprised to find a familiar figure lounging on her couch. Startled, she asked, “Mr. Leopold, why are you back already? Weren't you supposed to come back next

week?”

Her face was devoid of any trace of a smile, her frosty demeanor clearly irked Leopold. His brow furrowed in response, “Aren“t you happy to see me?”

Of course, Aurelia wasn't be happy about his early return, she was seething inside!

She flopped onto the adjacent couch, taking a gulp of water.

“Does your return have anything to do with me?”

His early return couldn't possibly be because of her. He was probably eager to see his lost love's little sister.

If he said there was nothing going on between him and Evelyn, she'd call him a liar!

Just from how nervous Elowen was, it was evident there was more to the story.

A hint of annoyance crept into Leopold's eyes, causing his brow to furrow even more.
