Mira suddenly waved her small paws around and gave Kane's face a vigorous rub.

Warm and soft, it was definitely the real Kane. Who had she seen just moments ago? Could it be a ghost?

A little imp impersonating Kane?

Were there ghosts at Mossy Rock Retreat?

Kane caught her tiny paws, "Mira, what are you doing?"

Mira shivered, "Kane, I think I just saw a ghost."

Kane burst into laughter, "You must be seeing things. How could there be ghosts at Mossy Rock Retreat?"

As he spoke, he saw Beverley walking over. She was bored of scrolling through videos and cto play with the kids.

"Why is it so dark in here? Why'd you guys dim the lights like that?"

"Beverley, we're playing a scary gof hide and seek," Kane explained.

Beverley was immediately intrigued, "How scary?"

"You might see a ghost," Mira said with a trembling voice.

"That sounds like fun, countin." Beverley loved thrilling games.

"William is hiding, and we need to find him," Kane said.

At that moment, Skyler and Nina, who had also been searching for William, cout of the room, "Haven't you guys found William

yet? Where could he be hiding?"

Mira huddled her shoulders and wrapped her arms around herself, "What if a ghost took him?"

Beverley ruffled her hair, "You've got quite the imagination, kiddo. Let's keep looking, and he's got to be in snook or cranny."

She took charge like a true leader, delegating search areas to everyone since several rooms remained unchecked.

Skyler and Nina took Nova to the rooms on the left. Beverley headed to the rooms on the right, and Mira, too scared to keep

searching, decided to go downstairs for a snack.

After checking a room, Beverley moved to the storage closet, with Mira clutching the tail of her shirt.

"Where could that sneaky William be hiding?" Beverley muttered as she opened several large cabinets, but they were all packed

with stuff, no place for a kid to hide.

Near the window, the curtains swayed gently, as if concealing someone.

Beverley let out a chuckle, "Gotcha, you little rascal, hiding here all along."

She yanked the curtains open and found a child crouched with his back to the wall, his face unseen. She tapped his shoulder

lightly, "William, I found you."

The child slowly turned his head, grinning at her, "Someone finally found me."

Beverley jerked back in shock. That wasn't William, and it was Kane? But Kane had gone to the left rooms, hadn't he? She had seen

him enter with her own eyes.

"Kane, what are you doing here?"

As she spoke, a voice called from the doorway, "Beverley, did you find William?"

She spun around to see a small figure standing in the doorway. It was Kane.

What was going on? Her eyes widened, her heart skipped a beat, and when she turned back to the window, the child in the corner

had vanished, as if he had never been there.

A shiver coursed down her spine, causing her skin to erupt in goosebumps.

"Kane, is that you?" she asked.

"It's me, Beverley, what's wrong?" the boy at the door asked.

Beverley swallowed hard, her throat tight with fear. This was too creepy. She bolted out, "Haven't you guys found William yet?"

"No," Kane shook his head.

She pinched his cheek, feeling the warmth of life, definitely human. She was now worried about William, "Okay, that's enough, and

let's stop playing."

She raised her voice, "William, cout now, and we can't find you. You win."

Skyler and Nina, hearing the call, ran over from their room, "What's the matter, Beverley? Why stop? We haven't found William

yet."
