Agent A was fuming. "If I go down, you're coming with me," he snarled.

Lisbeth was calm, "Easy there. You're not going to die. The poison won't kill you and just paralyze you."

And how was that different from being dead? Agent A twitched his lips in annoyance.

"You didn't sellout, did you?" he accused.

Lisbeth feigned confusion. "What are you getting at?"

"Yesterday, you said you were going to ask Aurelia about the antidote, and now I'm under house arrest. You rattedout to her,

didn't you?" Agent A pressed.

Lisbeth rebuked, "Rat you out? If so, won't I expose your identity? Can you still lie here leisurely and be served without torture?

That would blow your cover sky-high. If you're blown, so am I. Do I want a death wish? When I saw Aurelia, she said it was to speed

up the antidote development. I couldn't exactly say no. Your life is in her hands now."

Agent A gave her a dark and icy stare. "You'd better not be that foolish. If you betray me, I'll ship you off to a backwoods brothel in

the wilds. You could die there."

Lisbeth scoffed silently. “You just worry about yourself. Who knows who'll end up in the sticks?’

"We're in this together, so cut the threats. One wrong move and we're both toast," she retorted.

Agent A was seething. ‘Does she think she can pusharound because I'm immobilized?’

Once he was back on his feet, he would set her straight.

In the evening, when Skyler returned to the Stirling Mansion, he found a text from Geoffrey.

[Dear Skyler, I hear you've been a naughty boy to pin your mess on me. Got snerve!]

Skyler smirked as he typed back, [You're pretty well-informed. But I'm not lying. I'm a good kid. You're the one who loves to fib. Bet

your nose is longer than Pinocchio's by now.]

Geoffrey sent back a furious emoji. [Pleading innocence? I know whether I used poison or not.]

Skyler shot back with a playful grimace emoji. [Oh, con. Everyone in the Stirling family knows you're the poison expert. You're

practically a snake.]

[You trying to play dumb with me?]

[You're the one playing games.] Skyler wasn't dumb enough to admit to lying and give Geoffrey any ammunition. Even through the

screen, Skyler could almost smell the rage, picturing Geoffrey's twisted scowl.

A full minute passed before Geoffrey texted again.

[False accusations have their price.]

Skyler stuck his tongue out at his phone. [I didn't falsely accuse you. Everyone knows you're the bad apple. Not even a hundred

tons of washing power could clean your guilt.]

Geoffrey went silent, probably knocked out cold by anger.

Eyes twinkling with mischief, Skyler sent another message. [You trying to save Tanya, huh?]

Geoffrey replied almost instantly. [You know where she is?]

[Not yet, but word is she's sick, real sick. She's my mom, after all. I can't let her die alone on sdeserted island. I'll find out from

Leopold. But I'll only tell you in person. If you send a decoy or play hide-and-seek, we can both be the black sheep of the family.]

[You're not trying to lureout into the open, are you?]
