Nina and Mira dashed over from the backyard, their cheeks flushed with the excitement of play.

We're beefing up security at hand adding sextra bodyguards to make sure no one takes advantage of the situation again.” Sheryl nodded, “Got it.” Nina swiveled around her big and round eyes before she covered her mouth and whispered conspiratorially, “Mom, we're safe and sound here at the Stirling Mansion, so don’t worry. Let's make up a secret code, okay? You have to get it right to prove it's really you.” “Sure.” Sheryl stroked her daughter's cheek.

Leaning in close, Nina whispered a few words into her mother’s ear. Sheryl nodded in understanding, “I'll remember that.” Back at the Stirling Mansion, it was tfor the kids to get ready for bed.

After her evening shower, Aurelia settled on the couch and flicked on the TV to catch Avery's latest show. Leopold brought over a fruit platter and sat next to her, gently offering her slices of apple.

Biting into a crisp piece, Aurelia asked softly, “Have you heard how the victim's wife is doing? Is she still being held at the station?” “She’s been released on bail,” Leopold replied. The police had ruled out the chocolate poisoning and couldn't tie anything to Sheryl for the tbeing. He planned to keep the cops in the dark until they caught the fake Sheryl, got a confession, and then handed over the evidence.

Aurelia shimmered her dark eyes in the lamplight with a touch of frost in her gaze.

“Sheryl mentioned that Lisbeth has been stirring up trouble to drive a wedge between us. It seems the work of the impostor.

They've made their move, and even without hard evidence, we can't just sit on our hands.” A grim resolve washed over Leopold's handsfeatures. If it weren't for Raines and Elfreda, Leopold would have taken care of the impostor himself.

“We'll beat them at their own game,” Leopold declared.

Aurelia peeled an orange segment and patted her still-flat belly, “Nowadays, I don’t care whether the baby is a boy or a girl. I just hope they don’t inherit Chad's genes.” Chad's chromosomes didn’t have a single commendable trait, a real black sheep of the Stirling family.

Jessica was deeply in love with her husband, so Chad couldn’t have inherited their genes but most likely had an atavism from his grandpa, who had his fair share of romances with a whole lineup of mistresses.

Leopold coughed awkwardly, “My kid inheriting Chad's genes? Not a chance.” Aurelia shot him a sideways look, “He’s your dad and your kid's granddad. It's only normal for straits to get passed down.” She had a sneaking suspicion that her William might have unluckily inherited a bit of Chad.

Leopold raised an eyebrow, “My child will know to keep the good and ditch the bad. Take Kane, for instance, he’s perfect. He didn’t pick up a single bad trait from Chad. William though... Instead of worrying about Kane, maybe we should be concerned about William. I have a feeling he’s got a bit of Chad in him, always the charmer among the ladies.” Aurelia rolled her eyes in her mind. ‘Your seed too, remember?’ “I fail to see any resemblance. You're looking at William through a biased lens.” Leopold hummed lowly, “Chad favored Arnold when he was alive. It wouldn't be the worst thing if his son took after Chad.” Aurelia pursed her lips, “William takes after me, after our Hawthorne side, not your Stirling family.” Leopold stroked his chin thoughtfully, “Given the way he’s shaping up, William won't grow up to be Tom Tiler.” Aurelia almost choked on her water.

No wife wanted her husband to be Tom Tiler, but no mother hoped her son would be one either.

“There's no way William would be Tom Tiler. Of course not. A man should respect his wife but also stand his ground with his own convictions.”
