"Nina," called Aurelia as she strolled over with a curious lilt in her voice, "Where on earth did you snag that chocolate from? You claimed it was from the resort's gift shop, didn't you?" With a mischievous grin spreading across her face, Nina confessed, "I fibbed to Mira yesterday, just to tease her for her sweet tooth." With that, she scampered off, fearful of further questioning that might betray her little secret.

Aurelia always sensed something peculiar about Nina, but couldn't quite put her finger on it.

When Mira heard whispers that the chocolate might be tainted, she was petrified and wailed uncontrollably at the prospect of a hospital visit, fearing it might be poison. After all, she had a close brush with death once before due to poisoning.

"Am I going to die? I don't wanna die," Mira sobbed inconsolably.

Fredric was sweating bullets as he tried to console her. "Easy there, you're not going anywhere. You're fit as a fiddle right now, aren't you?" Stomping her foot in frustration, Nina blurted out, "I bought the chocolate from the convenience store, and I ate it too. How could it possibly be poisoned? Those two must have gotten sick from something else." The chopper arrived in no time, and Fredric whisked the kids away to the hospital for a thorough check-up.

Thankfully, the kids were given a clean bill of health.

Soon after, the police department rang up with good news. The chocolate was poison-free after their lab analysis.

When Mira bounced back, she was as lively as ever. "Ha-ha, I'm fine! I'm not gonna kick the bucket!" Aurelia ruffled Mira's hair lovingly, "Our Mira's got the luck of the Irish. Nothing's going to happen to you when we're all here to watch over you." Grinning from ear to ear, Mira said, "If that chocolate was really poisoned, it must've been the green stuff. Lucky I didn't eat any." She still harbored a tiny grudge for missing out on the green chocolate from the day before.

Words spoken without intent could still strike a chord with the listener. Aurelia pricked up at the mention of green chocolate. She recalled the chocolate Nina handed those two people under the palm trees was indeed green. And the one she retrieved from Mira was green too.

Nina had been so distraught until she got her hands on that chocolate. After receiving it from Mira, her tears had stopped.

Aurelia pulled Mira aside discreetly, asking, "Sweetie, was the green chocolate from Nina yesterday?" "Nope," Mira shook her head. "Nina's too stingy to share the green ones. I got it from Dad." "And where did Dad get it from?" Mira explained earnestly, "Ms. Jelena gave it to him. Nina gave Ms. Jelena one green chocolate and gavetwo red ones. I wanted to trade my reds for Jelena's green, but Nina threw a fit. I saw Ms. Jelena give the green one to Dad, so I asked him for it. Green and red chocolates must taste different.” "Ah," Aurelia smiled, masking her concern.

"Did Nina ever try the green chocolate?" Mira shook her head again. "I didn't see her. Maybe she had more reds, that's why she wouldn't share the greens." Aurelia darkened her expression. Nina wasn't one to throw such a tantrum over a piece of chocolate.

"Is Nina always this stingy? Not even sharing snacks with you?" "No way," Mira countered. "She never fights over snacks with me. She even givesher share. It was just yesterday. She must've been hoarding the green chocolates because they're super tasty." Aurelia patted her rosy cheek, "Well, I will find out where we can get those chocolates and buy you a whole boxful. How does that sound?" Mira lit up her face, "You're the best!" With a hop and a skip, she was off to play with the others.

Once alone, Aurelia beckoned Leopold into the room, sharing her gnawing suspicions.

Leopold narrowed his eyes ever so slightly, a flicker of astonishment flashing through them.
