"Only a man shouldering his responsibility can respect his husband and love his kids, instead of indulging himself in mistresses and luxury." Fredric pressed a hand to his forehead, a clear sign he was being dressed down.

For Jelena, he had trudged through hell and high water, finally managing to divorce Sheryl. But Jelena wasn’t moved, not even a little, not even giving him a chance.

He quickly raised his hand, swearing an oath like a love-struck pup.

"I swear, from this moment on, I won't lay a finger on any other woman. I'll be as pure as a monk, just to prove to you I'm on the straight and narrow now." Jelena curled her lip with an almost smile, silent.

Aurelia, on the side, couldn't help but pull a face. It was true that people always wanted what they couldn't have and the grass was always greener on the other side.

The thrill of the chase had pumped Fredric's adrenaline, his desire to conquer through the roof.

"Fredric, talk is cheap. It's all about action. How about we all keep an eye on you from now on, deal?" Fredric with mixed feelings said, “Alright, I'll submit to the public supervision.” After the kids had polished off their fruit, they scampered back to their sandcastle.

Nina, pouting as she piled up the sand, said, “I thought Lady Jelena would be pretty, that's why Dad liked her. But at the sight of her, she's not pretty at all, nothing on Mom. Mom is the most beautiful.” Skyler blinked innocently, “But I think Jelena is pretty. She's Angel's cousin, how could she not be?” “My mom is the beauty, the big star,” Nina declared, staunchly taking her mother’s side.

Mira, with a babyish lisp, chimed in, “I don’t know what's pretty or ugly. People all look the stowith two eyes, a nose and a mouth.” Nina rolled her eyes, replying, “That's because you're a little dummy. That's why you can’t tell.” “Okay then.” Mira shrugged it off, true to her carefree style, clueless and adorably foolish.

In a hushed voice, Kane asked, “Nina, do you wish Fredric and Sheryl would get back together?” “Yeah.” Nina nodded, “If Aurelia could kick Megan out and remarry Uncle Leopold, why can't Mom?” Kane sighed, “It's complicated. Sheryl has stirred up trouble, breaking family rules. The elders worry it'll bring bad luck to the Stirling family and ruin the family’s fortune. They won't let her back in. Fredric wanted you and Sheryl to be together, but they fear her troubles could curse you and Mira. So you stay in the Stirling Mansion, close to the family shrine under our protection.” At that, Mira shrank back, shivering, “Will ghosts cfor us if we stay with Mom?” “Maybe,” William teased with a spooky face.

Nina feared ghosts too but mustered her courage, “Aunt Aurelia said a powerful priest performed rituals, so ghosts won't cafter us.” “Grandma says it takes time. Mom's going to invite the priest again soon,” William added.

Mira clutched Kane's arm, “I don’t want to go huntil the ghosts are gone. Kane, you have to protect me.” She was terrified of ghosts.

Kane patted her shoulder and comforted, “Don’t worry, with my dad around, no ghost would dare enter the Stirling Mansion.” Nina was concerned for her mom, “But what about Mom? If she’s alone and the ghosts go after her, who will save her?” “She’s got her assistant, right? They'll help her,” William reassured.

That settled Nina's nerves a bit. She missed her mother dearly and loved her, no matter what wrongs she had done. She stood by her mom.

In this family, the biggest mistake was not made by her mother, but by her father.
