Sheryl stormed over, her face a thundercloud, "Aurelia, you've known Joyce all along, haven't you? She's tight with Jelena, and Jelena's been cozying up to Fredric on purpose, all to get back at him for Joyce. And you're her partner." Aurelia remained serene, "Joyce is merely an alumna from Jelena's alma mater. Aren't you being a tad overimaginative? Besides, I only found out a few days ago about their school connection." Beverley cut in, "Sheryl, Elysium Academy is brimming with students. If every alumnus held a grudge, wouldn't you be six feet under a hundred times over? The real issue here is you've gone and desecrated a grave, which goes against the Stirling family code. Even if we wanted to plead your case, our hands are tied." Sheryl retorted, "It was that master who toldto do it. He said it was the only way to exorcise the spirit. I was at my wits' end and had no choice but to agree." Aurelia shot back, "That charlatan has spilled everything to the cops. It was your idea. You turned to him after the head priest at the spiritualist church turned you down. You never intended to repent. You don't feel a shred of guilt for what happened to Joyce. As a member of the Stirling family, you're expected to be virtuous and moral. But you're lacking a conscience, lacking integrity. You call Jelena a homewrecker, but look at yourself, in the end, isn't it just a taste of your own medicine?" The thought of Joyce's fate unleashed a torrent of sorrow and rage within her.

Sheryl's face twisted as if she'd been slapped hard.

"Aurelia, your day will come. Sooner or later, you'll end up just like me," she spat venomously before storming off.

Aurelia couldn't predict her future, but she knew one thing, to live with integrity, to avoid misdeeds and the absence of virtue.

Desperate, Sheryl sought out Jessica, collapsing at her feet, "Mom, I know I've erred. I was duped by that so-called master. I can't divorce Fredric. I might be carrying his child, and according to Stirling family rules, a pregnant daughter-in-law cannot be divorced." Jessica eyed her coldly, "Might be pregnant?" "lI was intimate with Fredric recently, and by my calculation, it was during my fertile window. I might well be expecting," Sheryl pleaded.

Fredric stormed in, fuming, "I haven't even started to square things up with you." He turned to Jessica, "Mom, this wicked woman druggedand had sex with me. She's done nothing but evil. I must divorce her this afternoon. If she won't go willingly, the lawyers can handle it." Jessica sighed heavily, "Sheryl, you've been foolish. If there's one thing you should never have done, it's grave desecration. The Stirling family cannot tolerate such acts, and it will curse our lineage. Even if I wanted to keep you, it's out of my hands now." Sheryl wept bitterly, "What about my child? If I divorce Fredric, my child will be illegitimate. If it's a girl, won't she be left to fend for herself, without claim to her heritage?" Fredric replied coldly, "If you're truly pregnant, you can terminate. It's better not to bring the child into this world." "How can you say something so cruel? That's your child too." Sheryl sobbed.

Fredric sneered, "Aren't you cruel? Joyce is dead, and you still desecrated her grave." "It's all because of you," Sheryl accused, "If you hadn't discardedfor Jelena, pushingto the edge, I wouldn't have lost my mind and done something so foolish. I'm telling you, Jelena is here for vengeance. She seduced you on purpose, just to ruin our marriage and drive us to divorce."
