Chapter 27

Cecilia’s words suddenly snapped me back to reality. She stood up and smiled at me.

“Oh, sorry, Ma’am. I’ll just step out for a moment since you told me yesterday that I need to check the production team. I’ll send the report to you when it’s okay later.”

She stood up and left my office as if nothing happened, leaving me in a daze, absorbing every word she said..

I took a deep breath and continued with my work, although I was still bothered by her words that really hit my mind and heart.

I took a deep breath and spent the whole afternoon just trying to feel myself. I barely accomplished any work because my mind kept wandering, and I ended up not completing anything properly. I decided to leave it to my secretary to handle.

“Ma’am, Sir Dominic is already here. He said he’ll pick you up for lunch.”

Lunchtime came without me realizing it. I glanced at the clock and saw that I had lost track of time for several hours. Soon, Dominic walked into the office and greeted me. When our eyes met, I quickly looked away.

“Hey, dear.”

He hugged me and was about to k*ss my cheek when I suddenly moved away and stepped back to look at him. His eyebrows furrowed, clearly puzzled by my actions, but I quickly smiled at him and greeted him.

“Hey, love. Ready to eat?”

He didn’t speak. Instead, he continued to gaze at me, looking me up and down. With that kind of look, I knew he was waiting for an explanation, so I instinctively touched my head and weakly smiled at him.

“I’m sorry; I just feel a bit unwell because I’m hungry. I’ve been waiting for you since earlier, so I’m starting to get a bit annoyed.”

He raised his eyebrows, “Then you should have texted me that you’re hungry. You know I can pick you up right away so we can eat together early.”

I bit my lower l*p, “Because I didn’t want to bother you, and I know you have other things to attend to, so I just waited for you. Of course, I know you. And you know me too well; you’re not used to me inconveniencing you.”

He fell silent for a moment, as if still processing what I said, then nodded, “Oh, then if that’s the case, I’m sorry, love, if I took a while to pick you up. And you’re right, I was in an important meeting earlier, but still, if you had texted, I would have made time for you.”

He held my hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, smiling at me. My heart felt like it was being pounded repeatedly until it shattered and fell apart. I

ouldn’t bear to look into his eyes, knowing damn well that I had committed a grave mistake.

I forced a smile, though inside, I felt like bursting into tears.

“Let’s go?”

He pulled me along, and I reluctantly followed him. I glanced at Cecilia, who was smiling at us, and I couldn’t help but recall the things she said earlier.

“Cecilia, take care of the paperwork. There are still many things I haven’t signed. Organize them from least to most important, so it’s easy to handle when I get back.” I left instructions for my secretary before we finally left the company.

Life with Dominic has become accustomed to our usual restaurant where we dine together. But this time, it feels like the restaurant isn’t special anymore. Because of what happened between Damon and me, it seems like even this special place we always eat at has been tainted.

“Honey, are you okay? You’ve been lost in thought since earlier.

Due to the fast–paced events, I didn’t realize we were already here. He had already ordered our food, and now it was all set on our table.

I blinked at him, “Sorry if you were saying something, but I wasn’t really paying attention. I’m just having a hard time with the work I’m doing,” I just used that as an

excuse

“I understand. It’s evident that you’re extremely busy, especially with your company growing. I’m proud of you because you’re gradually gaining recognition. But take a break, okay? Don’t stress yourself too much.”

I bit my l*p and couldn’t help but tear up. He was surprised when I suddenly cried, and he dropped the spoon he was holding to grab my hand.

“Hey, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?”

I shook my head and tried to calm myself, even though it was really difficult. I bit my

l*p, sighed, and placed my hand on top of his, my voice breaking as I spoke.

“N–nothing…

I’m just iper thankful to you because without you, I don’t know what I would do with my life. You gave me

fife. You gave me strength, and you’re the reason why I continue to strive even when it’s really tough at times. So. thank you. Thank you for being with me.”

Honestly, I didn’t know what I was saying I do feel thankful to him, but there are things I want to say that I don’t have the strength to articulate right now.

Baby…

Dominic called my name, so I looked at him. As our eyes met. I saw the sadness and confusion in his eyes.

“I mean. I do appreciate what you’re expressing now, but why do I feel like you’re not really thankful? Why does it seem like you’re hurt?”

My heart raced, and I felt anxious, but I tried to calm myself, even though I was still overwhelmed.

“Did I express it too much?” I asked, forcing a smile. But this time, my smile was genuine somehow. Part of it but I still feel awful.

“Yeah,” he nodded. “But don’t worry too much about it, okay? I love you so much, so I’ll do everything I can for you.”

He k*ssed the back of my hand. As I watched him. I couldn’t help but feel weak again. but I tried to push that thought away to focus my attention on him this time.

He made sure I was okay, which physically, I was fine, but mentally, I couldn’t be at ease. Before he brought me back to the company. I glanced at the clock on my phone, and it was only two thirty in the afternoon. I would leave again around four.

When the elevator opened in my main office. I was surprised to see Cecilia in front of me, wearing a wide smile.

“You’re really lucky, Ma’am!”

I raised an eyebrow at her statement, curious. “What do you mean?”

“Just go inside your office. Ma’am, so you’ll find out.”

Cecilia gave a meaningful explanation and turned away. If I weren’t kind–hearted and strict, I would have fired her a long time ago. I had no choice but to enter my office to see what she was referring to. As I approached my table, I paused and was puzzled by

what I saw on it.

“You and Sir Dominic were together earlier, and he even managed to surprise you with a bouquet here in your office. I hope everyone is as fortunate as you, Ma’am, to be loved intensely.”

I didn’t pay attention to what Cecilia said. Instead, I slowly approached the bouquet on the table and observed it. Various flowers were wrapped, some of which were evidently rare because it was the first time I had seen such beautiful and fragrant flowers.

“Not-” I remembered that Cecilia was with me, and she might mention this to Dominic. I pretended to be happy, even though inside, I wondered if Dominic was really the one who gave this.

I quickly took my cellphone and checked the message inbox to see if Dominic had sent me a text. As expected, I didn’t receive any messages because usually, if I receive flowers, he would inform me about it.

I raised an eyebrow as I lifted the flowers – they were quite large but not overly heavy. In fact, I could still lift them, and I couldn’t help but enjoy their fragrance. As I admired and touched the flowers, I felt that something was attached.

It’s a note.

I took the note and read what was written.

“Flowers for a beautiful lady like you.

Love,

DB

My heart rate quickened when I read the acronym. I had a feeling it was from him, but

I didn’t expect that it was indeed Damon who sent it.

“Cecilia,” I called my secretary with a serious tone.

“Yes, Ma’am?” She immediately appeared behind me.

“Never, ever mention to Dominic that he gave me flowers, understood?”

I turned to her and saw her raise an eyebrow, puzzled.

“Why, Ma’am-”

“Just do it if you don’t want me to terminate you.”

She fell silent at my words, seemingly grasping the seriousness in my tone. I felt bad somehow because this was the first time I acted sternly towards Cecilia, but I knew her. She might sl*p up with Dominic, and it could potentially harm our relationship.

As much as possible, I needed to use force.

“O–okay, ma’am.”

I nodded, even though inside, I wanted to take back what I said to her. I forced myself to steel my heart and asked, “Where’s my documents? Did you do it?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Cecilia quickly went to my table and searched for the task I assigned her earlier before we left. I, on the other hand, lowered my gaze to the bouquet I was holding, contemplating where to hide it. If I threw it away, Cecilia might think differently. I needed to dispose of it in a distant place to prevent Dominic from seeing it too.

I just placed it on a chair and took the papers Cecilia had organized for me. While reading and signing, I couldn’t help but glance at the flowers every now and then.

Suddenly, I hesitated. It felt wasteful to just throw them away.

“Cecilia.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Have one of our security team members buy a vase for the flowers.”

“Now, ma’am?”

Yes.”

Cecilia promptly left, and it was too late for me to realize the order I gave her.

I blinked and let out a heavy sigh. Before I could stop Cecilia, she was already out of the office, leaving me with nothing to do but exhale forcefully. I leaned back in my swivel chair

It didn’t take long before Cecilia returned, accompanied by a security guard carrying a large box. They opened it, revealing a beautifully designed vase, coincidentally matching the color of the flowers–yellow. They arranged the flowers in the vase with

care.

“Take care of the flowers.”

Cecilia smiled at me, “You really love Dominic so much. Truly, you’re a couple goals.”

I just sighed at Cecilia’s comment, not saying anything further. My security arranged the vase, and Cecilia carefully placed the flowers. I stood up and slowly stepped back to admire it from a distance.

For some unknown reason, my office seemed to come to life. In the past, entering this room felt heavy and stifling, but now, I couldn’t help but smile at the flowers.

It’s as if these flowers brought life to my office.

My smile slowly faded as I realized what I was thinking. I shook my head and took a deep breath.

This isn’t right…
