I removed the mascara cap and carefully applied it to my eyelashes. With each stroke, I made sure to catch every strand of hair. I was a bit shaky, causing it to spread slightly. under my eyes, so I needed to clean it up.

“Okay, but I will double the security when you leave the house, okay? Same goes for the kids. I don’t want them to experience what you went through.”
I nodded even though I knew he couldn’t see me, “Okay, sure. Thank you, love. I promise you that nothing will happen, and I’ll come home safely, okay? By the way, I’m already dressed and ready to leave.”
I heard him take a deep breath and chuckled with mock annoyance, “You’re really telling me this now when you’re already dressed, huh?”
I just laughed in response.

It took us almost two hours to reach our destination.
“Stay outside and keep watch. I don’t want you listening to our discussion during this meeting because it’s confidential. Just wait for me here outside, and if I haven’t returned after one hour, then you can come inside. Got it!”
“Yes, Ma’am,” the security team replied in unison.
