“What’s wrong?!”

Dominic was surprised at my abrupt response. I hadn’t noticed that my breathing had grown shallow, or that I had slid back on the bed and hugged myself without thinking. Why did I have to remember that?!

“N-nothing… it’s just that… my head hurts all of a sudden.”

Dominic sat in front of me, tenderly taking my hands in his own as he met my gaze. I quickly looked away and shut my eyes.

I did not want Damon’s face in my head during that intimate moment. I was

s mad at myself for letting it happen. like he had been tucked away in the back of my mind before unexpectedly appearing. I should have known seeing him at the gala would bring back our shared history, yet here I was, ruining it.

“Are you sure?”

Dominic softly ran his fingers along my hand then he cupped my cheek, looking at me with a softness in his eyes. I smiled up at him, nodding slowly to tell him that I understand and that it’s okay. I can see the worry in his expression and although he cares deeply for me, it’s hard for me to let him take on all of this stress and worry on my behalf.

I pulled him close and k*ssed him passionately. For a brief moment, he seemed to have something else on his mind, but when my l*ps met his he was forced to abandon whatever it was and instead let himself be consumed by the moment.

I wrapped everything up just as Dominic finished picking out his outfit. He chose a simple white shirt and black pants, nothing too showy, but it really worked for him. His style was classic, yet trendy in its own way, he had an amazing sense of fashion and knew exactly how to put together a great look.

“Let’s go.”

We went down the stairs and were met with the twins’ jumps of joy as they waited for us. Dominic was talking to the head of security while I prepped lunch for the kids. The energy in the air was electric, pulsing around us like a song and setting my heart on fire.
