Isabella, bold as brass, swiped something right out in the open, spouting all kinds of nonsense. She really must have a death wish! 

She was just taking advantage of Thalassa being on her own, without Lysander watching her back. Isabella thought she was above everyone else, turning the truth on its head! 

How dare she claim Thalassa’s jade pearl was stolen from her? The nerve! 

Richard didn’t delve too deeply, but he believed Thalassa through and through. The jade pearl was a legacy from Thalassa’s late mother. 

Thalassa had grown up without a father, raised single-handedly by Evelyn. 

And there was Isabella, with both parents alive and kicking, suddenly spouting some cock-and-bull story about her mother having an affair and giving birth to her out of wedlock. Such a blatant fabrication. 

An hour later, the ER doors swung open. Richard approached the doctor and asked, “How is she?” 

“The patient is weak and went into shock from the stress. Some IV fluids should set her right,” the doctor explained. 

Hearing that Thalassa would be okay, Richard let out a sigh of relief. “Thank you, Doc.” 

As Thalassa was wheeled out, her blood-stained clothes had been replaced with a hospital gown. Her frail body lay on the bed, looking vulnerable and pale.

Following the nurse to the ward, Richard sat beside the bed for ten minutes. He notic Thalassa’s eyelids fluttering a sign she was coming to. Lowering his gaze, he watch her intently. 

Thalassa’s consciousness slowly surfaced, and she opened her eyes to find a magnified, handsome face with clear, wide eyes staring back at her. 

Startled, her heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively shrank back, but upon recognizing Richard, her fear eased. 

“Mr. Richard, why are you staring at me like that?” she asked. 

Realizing he had frightened her, Richard sat up straight, chuckled, and said, “Sorry, I just couldn’t help watching you’re about to wake up. How are you feeling now?” 

Thalassa’s tension eased a bit more. “I’m fine.” 

“Could you get in touch with David? See how Lysander is doing?” Thalassa’s first thought upon waking was of Richard reaching out for news about Lysander. 

Richard was momentarily taken aback; then, a small smile played at his lips. “I thought

you’d be anxious to hear if we got the jade pearl back. But no, you don’t seem to care about them at all, just Lysander.” 

There was a teasing note in Richard’s voice. 

Thalassa knew he was as much of a gossip as Ethan, but she wasn’t in the mood for jokes, nor did she want her relationship with Lysander to become their idle chatter. 

Her eyelashes fluttered down as she murmured to herself, “Right, he was so badly hurt. It hasn’t been that long. How could there be any news yet.” 

It had only been an hour, but to Thalassa, it felt like half a century had passed. Her heart was constantly filled with concern for Lysander and their children. 

“Don’t be sad. The doctor said you need to rest and keep calm. Getting too upset could lead to depression. Don’t worry, I’ll keep an eye on any news about Lysander and let you know the moment I hear anything,” Richard reassured her, seeing the veil of sadness in her eyes and stopping the jests. 

He realized that making light of Thalassa and Lysander’s situation, especially with Lysander’s fate hanging in the balance, was truly inappropriate. 

“Thank you…” Thalassa said softly. 

“What do you think about Isabella snatching the jade pearl?” Richard asked, curious about her feelings. 

He wanted to know if Thalassa had any interest in acknowledging Joshua as her father The moment she found out, she didn’t seem thrilled but rather frightened.
