Chapter 1332

Lysander’s palm twitched faintly, still feeling the cool touch of her fingers lingering in his hand.

The chill seemed to seep right through to his heart.

His deep eyes shifted towards Thalassa. Her eyes were closed, clearly not in the mood to engage with him. Pretending to sleep, her trembling lashes betrayed her inner turmoil.

She couldn’t possibly be sleepy, could she? The pain in her heart was so deep. How could

she find rest?

She simply didn’t want his company, that much was evident.

With a misty look in his profound gaze, he spared her one last glance before stepping out of the room. She was in a fragile state, and any more words from him would only serve as a sting.

She wanted solitude, so he would grant it to her.

Thalassa’s eyes remained shut, but every tiny nerve within her was on edge, attuned to every sound in the room.

The moment she sensed Lysander leaving the hospital room, her pent-up emotions crumbled. Tears spilled from her eyes, and her chin quivered as she wept a muted, heart-wrenching sob.

Curled up, she clutched the blanket, crying softly yet fiercely.

Her body arched as an invisible wound seemed to tear open near her belly, pulling at her muscles with a twitching pain.

Thalassa shivered with the intensity of her agony, reaching down to caress her belly. Aside from the sharp pain, it felt unchanged, yet a little life that had been growing there was now an angel in heaven.

It was her child, the one she had protected with her very life.

On the same day that her mother passed away her baby also left her.

She felt so helpless that she was unable to save anyone.

Outside the ward, Lysander was seated on a bench. He could hear Thalassa’s cries, raw and primal. It was as if something was tearing his heart, each pull bringing pain.

His eyes misted over, filled with sorrow.

He knew that the pain he felt was nothing compared to the agony engulfing Thalassa. How he longed to go to her, to hold her close, to kiss her repeatedly and to tell her that she

still had him.

But she had refused, holding back her immense grief instead of crying in front of him. Her determination to withdraw her hand from his gentle grasp reminded him that she didn’t

want him.

His presence only added to her repression, bringing her more pain.

By his side, she wouldn’t even allow herself to cry.

Knowing her resistance to him, Lysander’s fists clenched, his handsome face cast in gloom.

Three days passed, and it was time for Evelyn’s funeral.

Dressed in the traditional garments of mourning, Thalassa was there to bid her mother farewell.

Her four children followed, each of them crying softly..

“Grandma, when you’re in heaven, please don’t forget us,” Elowen sobbed, trying to get the words out.

“Grandma, you can’t teach me how to fold paper boats anymore,” Sophia cried, wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes.

“Grandma, I won’t be naughty anymore. I’ll listen to you…” Dorian’s cries were the loudest, his heartbreak palpable.

“Grandma…” Tears streamed down Atticus’ cheeks like pearls slipping off a broken string.

They had previously attended Leopold’s funeral with Lysander and Zephyr, but back then, their understanding of death was vague.

They had yet to fully understand the finality of losing someone.
