The sun peeking through the cracks of her small burrow awoke her from her stiff sleep. Yawning in exhaustion as the storm had kept her awake for most of the night.

Sitting up, she checked on her injury to find that it was completely healed and sighed in relief. Because it was healed, she could go and try to hunt for food again. It had been four days since she had last eaten, and she was getting desperate.

Deciding against shifting, she crawled out of the crumbled building with her small wooden spear in hand. Her bare feet adjusted to the earth as she made her way through the woods. Bella had an idea of where she was going, she had a clear trail that she followed every day, but for some reason, she decided to go a different way.

Curiosity caused her to take a slow walk for once. The birds chirped in delight and hunger as she looked up and smiled at the sun’s rays poking out through the trees, the shadows of the birds above making the scenery that much better.

She always wondered what it would be like to sleep outside for once. Her small home was all she needed, but sometimes she wished she could go out and enjoy the night as much as she enjoyed the day. She was already breaking enough rules doing what she was doing, but her father was not there, he has not been there, and she needed food.

Her ears picked up the sound of rushing water as she made her way over. Her silver eyes brightened at the sight as she ran towards it and crouched down. Her hands touched the ice-cold liquid in awe while she placed her chin on her knees.

Fish swimming by caught her attention next just as her stomach growled. Her head feeling light, she held onto her spear and tried to think of a way to get a fish or two. She was not big enough to go that deep, nor did she know how to swim, but she wanted to try.

Dipping her toes into the water, her skin reacted to the cold as a small hiss escaped her lips. A small croak was made next to her as she jumped and looked down.

A small green and yellow frog looked up at her in curiosity as she paused and stared right back. Her breath hitched in her throat as she had never seen a frog before, but she knew what one looked like. Its beady little eyes stared at her in silence before it suddenly croaked again but louder.

A small scream came out of her as she jumped and crawled away from it in fear. Her eyes were wide while she held her spear in front of her as a defence mechanism.

“Wow, it is just a frog! They are harmless.”

Bella screamed again, turning her body around to find four people standing there watching her. Her heart beat wildly inside of her chest as she tried to look for an exit.

“Hey, you need to calm down.” One of the girls said, crouching down to her level while she kept backing away. “We want to help you.”

Bella shook her head, her hands shaking as the first girl spoke again. “Grace, she is too spooked.”

“But this is the first time we get to see her!” The second girl whined, her blue eyes frowning while she talked. “I am Sherry. What is your name?”

Bella did not respond, finding her feet to stand as she found herself to be much shorter than the rest. “Damn, she is small.”

“And her hair is silver.” The other boy commented after the first. “Harvey is on his way.”

“Really Jesse, you mention her hair when her eyes are also silver.” The first guy scoffed. “Harvey will cream himself.”

“Ew! Did you have to, Byron?” Grace cringed while he just shrugged in response.

Her eyes kept tossing between the four, her fear getting worse by the second. She did not know what to do while they talked, her body getting further and further away from them before she found her chance.

Bolting towards the trees, she refused to look back while she heard them scream for her to come back. Her legs carried her as she felt like she was flying from her speed, her heart aching in pain from the consistent beating as she bumped into someone and fell to the ground with a grunt.

Her eyes met a pair of golden-brown ones as she felt something stir inside of her. Her breath hitched at the sight of the man in front of her while he stared at her with just as much shock.

He was stunning, his face seeming flawless as she found herself getting lost in those golden-brown eyes of his. Her mind went blank for those short milliseconds. Her emotions kicked into overdrive by just the sight of him.

But her fear was taking over what she was feeling as she finally shifted and bolted away from the man. Tears streamed down her face as she caught sight of her home and quickly crawled inside of it, her breath heavy while she curled up into a ball and whimpered.

“She went in there!” Sherry screamed. “Shit, that gap is too small, even for Kyra.”

“What do we do now?”

“How do we even get her out?”

“Damn, that girl is fast!”

“Was that her, Harvey?” Jesse cut in.

Bella turned her ears to the sound of the mystery man’s name as she could finally put a name to his face. “Yeah, that was her.”
