CHAPTER FIVE – THE DISCOVERY

HAROLD

I stared at the clock hanging on my office wall and waited patiently as the seconds ticked away. A short knock twice on my door sounded and someone sl*pped into the shadows.

“Were you followed?” I asked the figure, slithering around in the dark corner of the room.

“No,” the figure replied.

I had specifically made that corner of my office dark intentionally so I would be able to entertain people there and still make it possible for them to keep a low profile.

“What is the update?” I asked.

“He doesn’t trust you,” the figure replied.

I rolled my eyes, “That’s obvious. Tell me something worth my time.”

“I haven’t found out anything yet,” the figure replied.

“Well for both our sakes, I hope you do, you know what happens to people who fail me, right?” I asked, a smile etched on my face.

“Yes, my lord,” the figure replied, bowing slightly, “I just need more time to make more findings.”

“I trust you know what you’re doing but remember that we don’t have time again,” I said.

The figure gave me a confused look and I rolled my eyes.

“Must I explain everything to you?” I growled, “I’m talking about the plan.”

The figure seemed to have realized what I was talking about and nodded.

“Yes sir.”

I rolled my eyes, it’s so difficult to get reasonable people to work with especially when you have to keep reminding them of their tasks every second.

“We’ll have to put the plan in motion now,” I said and the figure nodded. I waved my hands as the figure sl*pped out of my office.

A smile formed on my face as I inhaled. It felt so good being in charge especially when I get to give out all the orders and then sit back as I watch my plans swing into action.

It took a lot of planning but finally I’m here as the werewolf King and I had no intention of letting go of that title anytime soon. I’d rather die than have Kian take it away from me.

A cruel smile blossomed on my l*ps because I knew there was nothing Kian could do. Not unless he didn’t wanna see them again. And I’ve known the kid for long to know that he wouldn’t want such.

That’s his loss and my gain because it made him weak and vulnerable and I had no intention of stopping anytime soon.

My Beta, Devin, came in and bowed at me. I acknowledged him, I love the fact that people bowed before me, it’s refreshing especially after I’ve just encountered Kian with his rude attitude.

“Alpha King, you have a meeting with the four Alphas on the council,” Devin announced.

I nodded, “Lead the way then.”

He led the way and as I left my office a voice sounded in my mind, it was a mindlink message. A smile tugged on my l*ps as I realized that I had won and there was nothing Kian could do about it.

LYRA

I screamed as I felt cold water tickle down my skin as my eyes flew wide with panic. I tried to understand if I was back with my uncle and aunt and they were frustrating me.

I blinked as my eyes adjusted to the sunlight streaming in from the windows. Then I realized I was in the palace as the memories of yesterday flooded back into my mind.

I was rejected twice yesterday. I had met my mate Tyler who decided I wasn’t good enough for him and then I had realized that I was also mated to the cruel Prince and he rejected me also.

Leeza had been so kind as to offer me a place to sleep last night so who’s waking me up by pouring cold water on me?

“Wake up!” a cold voice snarled at me.

I blinked and saw a lady standing over me holding an empty bucket and I frowned as I sat up. Her face wasn’t familiar at all, she had long brown hair and blue eyes. She had a beautiful complexion and flawless skin. Her small pink l*ps were pulled up in a sneer.

I frowned, “Who are you?”

She sneered at me, “I’m the Prince’s chosen mate, know your place.”

I chuckled, a smile on my face, “Whatever. Just let me be.”

Then I stood up to walk away instead she pushed me down on the bed and glared at me.

“You are nothing but a slave in this palace and you should know your place and how to address me,” she snapped.

My frown was back in place as I tried to think of a single reason why she would decide to bully me when I’ve not done anything to her and I barely knew her.

“You may be the chosen bride of the Prince but I don’t care because you have no right to bully me, especially since I’ve not done anything to you,” I snapped.

She opened her mouth to speak but I cut her off and she gave me a death glare. I couldn’t care less, I just wanted to make a point.

“Let me be clear with you, I’m not going to allow you to bully me and talk to me however you deem fit, I’m fed up with people doing that to me!” I snapped at her.

Then I stood up and shoved her out of my way as I grabbed one of my dry clothes and wore it. I decided to take a stroll in the woods to clear my head.

I enjoyed nature and it made me feel safe, it made me feel like I could communicate with my wolf even though I hadn’t met her yet.

A few miles into the forest and I heard something snap behind me. I whirled around but I didn’t see anything, I continued walking and as I took the next step, the ground gave way and I fell into a ditch, I struggled to come up but I kept sinking into the ground until I was in front of an underground tunnel.

My heart was pounding as I tried to navigate my way around the tunnel. I kept moving towards the light and just as I stepped out my eyes widened in fear.

A claw was pointed directly at my throat as a voice asked coldly, “Who sent you?!”
