CHAPTER EIGHT

BRINLEY.

"You're what?" Katie was smiling and nodding her head tears filled her eyes. "I'm pregnant,” I hugged Katie softly, "I'm so happy for Katie,” I was happy for her. Katie had always dreamt of being a mother, and I was delighted to see that dream come true. "What do your parents think?" Katie's dad was the shadow pack's doctor. Russel Moore. His mate Betty Moore is the teacher in the pack middle school. Very nice people, though I only met them once.

"I haven't told anyone yet. Only people that know are You, Kyle, and Xander.” "Why?" Katie shrugs, "I want to surprise my parents. They're coming next month." I nod. "What did you want to tell me?" I narrow my eyes at her, "You can't tell Kyle or anyone.” She shakes her head, "I would never do that," "I know,"

"I met my second chance, mate,” I whispered. Katie's face lit up, and I could tell she was about to scream, so I shushed her. "You can't tell anyone,” "I won't, but this is great. You can stop being a slave.” I shook my head, "Finding your mate once your a slave changes Nothing. Besides, Thomas decided he doesn't like my age," Katie rose a brow. "Your age? You are only seventeen. How old is he?" "Twenty-eight."

Katie shook her head, "Age shouldn't matter,” "It doesn't not to me. But it does him a lot. Katie, I feel so different when I'm with him. My body burns with a desire that begs me for relief, but Thomas, won't touch me. Not in that way," "And you see him a lot?" I nodded, "We're in the friend zone." Katie mouthed an "0".

"You better be careful. Being near him like that and unmarked could throw you in heat." "How do I avoid the heat?" Katie looked at me with pity in her eyes, and I hate when people do that. "Stay away from Thomas.” I shook my head, "I can't do that,” Katie frowned, "Why not if he doesn't want you. I don't.” Katie paused, "You have feelings for this man." I nod, "I've tried not to, Katie, but I fell.” "Oh, Brinley," Katie hugged me. When Katie embraced me, I couldn't help it. The tears fell; I've never cried over anyone before, not even when Gabriel rejected me.

"Oh, my escort Tyler asked me on a date," Katie pulled back. "I think you should do it. Tyler might help you stay away from Thomas," I opened my mouth to say something when Kyle burst through the door. "She has to go. The Alpha King is on his way to my office." Katie looked at me and hugged me one last time. Tyler came rushing in and handed me my blindfold, and escorted me out of the room.

I waited till dark and made my way through the familiar woods that led to the pond. Thomas was probably there by now. Of course, I wasn't going to come, but Thomas was my mate, and he had the Right to know I was going to accept Tyler's offer to take me on a date. In all truth, I wanted to see Thomas. Seeing him at the end of my days kept me going. I walked through the last bit of limbs and caught my first glimpse of Thomas lying on the blanket.

"Took you long enough,”

"I'm sorry. I was busy," I said as I sat down beside him. Thomas had half of his hair in a bun tonight, and he always leaves it down when we come to the pond. Weird, I wonder why he didn't tonight? "I need to tell you something,” He brought his eyes to mine. "I have to tell you something too," I frowned, "What?" he shook his head, "Ladies first."

"Tyler, my escort asked me on a date,” Thomas's whole body tensed. He closed his eyes, trying to calm himself down. "What did you say to him?" I purse my lips, "I told him yes," I lied. Part of me wanted to see what Thomas would do. "But your mine," My throat went dry, and I couldn't form any words. I watched Thomas looking at me with hurt in his eyes. I felt so much pain knowing I had caused his sadness.

"You don't want me, Thomas. I have to try and be happy.” "I do want you 508. How can you not see how much? Do you know how hard it is for me? I can smell your arousal whenever I'm close to you, which kills me knowing I can't touch you. Why do you think I always tell you to go? It takes everything in me not to lose control.” My heart was beating hard against my chest. I parted my lips to steady my breathing.

"Your nervous,” I shook my head, "No," Thomas narrowed his eyes, "You can't hide it from me. I have wolf senses, don't you?" I shook my head, “I'm human,” Thomas's brows furrowed, "You don't have a wolf?" I shook my head. "When were you going to tell me?" I shrugged, "I didn't think that would matter,” "It doesn't. I just don't like being lied to, and I don't like the fact that my mate will go on a date with someone that's not me,” "I don't see you taking me on a date. You're hiding me because you're ashamed of me, of what I am.” "NO," He said through clenched teeth.

"Then why, Thomas?" His body stiffened. "508. You need to leave," I shook my head, "No, not until you tell me why. Why do you only want to meet at night? What are you afraid of?" "Go, now." He said, gripping the blanket tightly. "Okay," I nodded, "I'll go, but first. You have to kiss me,” Thomas might have a problem with the age difference, but I don't. He's my mate, and I want to be with him; only one question remained. Did he want to be with me?

"No," Thomas shook his head, "I can't." "I'm your mate Thomas, and all I want is one kiss. It's not a big deal,” "I can't. I don't know if I'll be able to stop.” I moved closer to him. His eyes closed as my finger brushed over his cheek. "I trust you," I whispered. His silver orbs met mine. "Don't." He shook his head, "I'm not a good person. I did things that I knew were wrong, which would hurt you. But I did it anyway." I frowned, "What did you do?" He shook his head.

Just kiss him," Sage encouraged me.

I took Sage's advice and slammed my lips against his. I tried to straddle him, but his hands gripped my hips tightly, keeping me from moving.

"Stop," he said, standing to his feet. "Why?" "I can't fall for you: your seventeen and an enslaved person. How would that make me look?" I frowned, "What do you mean?" He shook his head, "It doesn't matter,” "Fine," I shook my head, "I'm not having this same conversation over and over. So I get it you don't want me. But it's going to happen if not with you, then someone else. * I walked away from Thomas. I was sick of hearing how much he wanted me, but he let the age difference get in the way. I didn't lie. If it didn't happen with Thomas, someone else would take my virginity.

The Alpha king could decide to sell me off to another Kingdom at any moment. And who knows what would happen? I wanted my first time to be extraordinary and with somebody I love.

2 DAYS LATER

I am currently being escorted to Kyles's office. Something important came up, and Kyle said he needed to speak with me about it. I asked Tyler if he knew what this was about, and he said no. If Tyler knew, he would have told me. I haven't seen Thomas in two days. Every night, I go to the pond and wait for him, but he never shows.

Tyler knocked on Kyle's door. "Come in," Tyler led me inside. "Thanks, Tyler. You may go,"

"508. You can remove your blindfold." Kyle tells me. I did as he said and sat down on the chair of his desk. "I got a call from Mrs. Bates. She said that you have been skipping out on your duties. And you have been sneaking out of the slave's quarters at night. Is this true?” How did Mrs. Bates know? I told no one. I only skipped out on my duties when Julia said she would cover for me. But she wouldn't say anything about it because I covered for her too.

"Yes. But I can explain.” I told Kyle. He shook his head, "We don't tolerate that here. Mrs. Bates has no use for you any longer. I have sold you to another kingdom,"
