CHAPTER TWENTY

BRINLEY.

The kitchen door flew open, and Xander strutted in. My breath hitched at his sight, and suddenly I was scared to tell him of the baby. Xander looked like he always did with his long black hair, bright silver eyes, and five a clock shadow. The way his jaw clenched and unclenched was hot as hell, and I found myself gawking at every perfect of his profound body. The way his shirt strained against his muscles and his jeans tight around his thick thighs.

"508," Xander's deep husky voice broke my train of thought. My cheeks heated, and I hid my face from him. He chuckles, "You know I missed the way your cheeks turn red when I catch you checking me out,” I narrowed my eyes at him, making sure not to look down from his eyes, or I might jump into his warm arms and kiss those plush lips of his.

"Hi," I say and smile at him. Xander stands on the opposite side of the island while I cut fresh fruit for the fruit salad.

"Did you remember I'm allergic to strawberries this time?" He says, raising a brow. I shook my head. "I remembered last time. I don't know how those strawberries got into that salad,” I said honestly. Xander shrugs, "Doesn't matter now. So, what was so important you had me come all the way here?" I stopped cutting the mango and glanced up at him

Nausea bubbled in my throat at the thought of Xander not taking this well. My nerves were getting the best of me, and I was rethinking telling him.

"Come on, 508. It can't be that bad." He said, shaking his head. His black hair hung long in the back and the top half tied in a bun—same ole sexy Xander.

"Do you remember the night we shared together?” Something flashed through Xander's eyes. He masked it quickly but not quick enough because I had already seen it regret.

Does Xander regret making love to me? Would he turn his back on our baby?

"Yes," He mutters.

I take a deep breath in and out.

"Do you love me?" I asked while looking into his silver orbs.

"Is that why you had me all the way here?" I shook my head, "No. I have something to tell you. But I need to know if you love me?" I breathed out.

"508," He says. I shook my head.

"No., Xander, it's a yes or no question.”

Xander took a deep breath closing his eyes. When he opened them, his eyes were cold and empty. “No,”

My heart crumbled into pieces. Xander doesn't love me. My eyes blurred with tears, and I found myself nodding. But, even though he doesn't love me, he still deserves to know about his baby. "Xander." I paused, biting my lip to keep it from quivering. "I'm-" My eyes snapped to the door as it opened, and Julia and Knox strolled in. Her belly was already starting to show.

How could he bring her? So I asked him here to tell him about our baby. I didn't think he would bring her along.

Knox met my gaze, and his brows furrowed. My grip on the knife tightened as I met Xander's gaze. "You brought her with you?" He frowns, "I didn't think you would mind," He says.

I shook my head, "I wanted to talk with you alone. But you can't seem to do anything without her." I shouted. Knox rushed to my side, gently squeezing my shoulders. Xander growls, taking a step towards Knox, and Knox instantly removes his hands.

"We can talk in private. If that's what you want,” Xander assures me.

I shook my head, "No. I don't want to talk to you anymore. Just leave from here and go play house with your slut.” I yelled, dropping the knife and running out of the kitchen.

I ran upstairs to my room and locked the door. Xander never came after me. I'm not even sure how long I've been sitting in my darkroom.

“It will be okay, my little human.’ Sage says

'I tried to tell him." I paused, trying to stop sobbing, “But he brought her with him, and did you see how he smiled at her? Sage sighed but nodded.

“Brinley. Maybe you can try again later,’ Sage says.

“No. I don't want to see him again.’ Sage nods.

“But you will at some point, he's mate.’ She says.

'I don't care.’ Sage sighs and retreats to the back of my mind.

Sage and I never talk much, afraid they will take her from me. Omega wasn't allowed to have wolves in the pack where I'm from, and they did. The Alpha would get rid of them, making you fully human. So I have kept her a secret for all these years.

"Brinley," Knox says, walking into my room. He sits on the bed and softly strokes my hair from my face. "I'm sorry my brother hurt you,” He says. Knox is a nice guy, likes to joke a lot but is still a good guy.

"I couldn't tell him. Not when he brought Julia with him. Does that wrong?" Knox shakes his head. "He does need to know. But I don't blame you for not telling him when he brought his “Slut’ As you called her."

"He told me he doesn't love me," I said, tears falling from my eyes.

"He didn't mean it,” Knox says. I sobbed harder, Knox trying to console me. When I finally calmed down and remembered the look in his eyes as he told me no, how cold they were.

"He did."

"You're his mate. He loves you, B," Knox says. I shook my head, unable to communicate words from the fresh tears falling freely. Knox climbed into the bed and laid beside me, comforting me as I cried on his arm over his brother, breaking my heart.

How could he do this to me?
