I looked at my alarm clock and it read 4:30am and I sighed. I put on my running clothes and quietly left the dorm for my usual morning exercise. I ran for a while and when I was satisfied with how far I had run, I made my way towards the gym.

It's been two months since I arrived at Crest Hill and I still haven't shifted which was considered strange since most students shift within their first month. And I became an outcast just like I was at my old school.

I was ranked the fastest runner in the entire school. After I broke Caleb's record, Coach Ryan made me race against the other floors and even elementalists.

When it came to accuracy, precision and speed, I was ranked the best fighter. But when it came to shifting, I was the lowest. I was useless when it came to shifting training so I spent the time honing my weapon skills. I could handle any weapon effectively but I was deadly with the bow and arrow and daggers.

I finished my exercise at 5:30am and made my way back to the dorms. I took a shower even though I would still have to take another one after training.

I got dressed in my training clothes and went to wake Rose up.

" Rose get up it's almost time for training." I said pulling the blanket off her body. She groaned and glared at me.

She looked like a total different person. Her wild mane of red hair looked like a bird's nest, she had drool by the side of her mouth and her eyes were red and contrasted with her green irises.

" There's no training this morning!" She yelled throwing a pillow which I skillfully dodged.

" What?!"

" Uhhh!, Do you even listen to anything I say!, Training is cancelled this morning. Instead of 4th and 5th, we'll have gym."

" Why?"

" Because Cole is coming back and furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and Rose sighed.

" Cole Hernandez is one of Crest Hill's best students. He's been going on quests since he was a freshman. Just before you arrival, he went on a quest to retrieve the ring of Kristopis. It's said to be one of the ancient artifacts of the Elysian. And he's also Bryan's best friend." She explained blushing when she mentioned Bryan's name.

Bryan Makanjuola is one of the hottest and most popular guy at Crest Hill. He's a half Nigerian half Mexican hottie with dark skin, usually unruly dark curly hair, choclate coloured eyes and his signature cheeky grin.

He's not only popular for his looks but also because he is one of the top ranked shifters and because of his hilarious pranks. He was a junior just like Rose and I. And although he was on the aerial floor, we shared a couple classes together and he was a pretty nice guy.

He and Rose were the only people that talked to me because they wanted to and not because they were asked to or they needed my help. And Rose has a huge crush on him.

" So don't wake me up until it's 7:00am."

I rolled my eyes and left her room for mine. I brought out my uniform since today was a Monday and laid it on my bed. I sat by my desk and stared at the wall in boredom.

I finally changed out of my training clothes and wore my uniform. I opted for the long sleeved shirt because it was chilly since we were in mid November. I wore my black pleated skirt and paired it with tights and black ankle boots. I completed my look with my butterfly bowtie and smiled at my reflection.

I ran a brush through my hair a couple times and secured it with a light blue head band.

" Get up!" I yelled opening the door of Rose's room. I had apparently startled her because she had tumbled off the bed and onto the floor.

" It's 7:00am already." I said trying to hold back my laughter but failing horribly. She glared at me and threw a pillow which I caught.

" You really need to work on your speed." I commented tossing the pillow on the bed and she gave me a sour look.

It took her 15 minutes to shower and get dressed. She wore black slacks with her long sleeved shirt and black flats. Her bird's nest had been pulled into a sleek ponytail and her eyes were no longer red.

Talk about transformation.

" Come on let's get going!" She said excitedly and I shook my head.

Cole's POV.

I got of the bus to see the entire school waiting for me. There were several banners welcoming me back from the quest and it felt really good to be back.

" Welcome back man!" Bryan greeted patting me on the back.

" Thanks dude!" I replied with a huge grin. I scanned the faces in the large crowd looking for familiar faces. It was easy for me due to the sharp eyesight that came from being a wolf. My eyes landed on one particular face and I stopped. It was a girl with blonde hair and-

Purple eyes?

" Dude, you coming?" Bryan called.

" Yeah!" I replied looking at him. But when I looked back to the girl, she was gone.

' You're clearly seeing things. Who has purple eyes?!' My wolf that I named Claws exclaimed.

You're probably right Claws.

" I can not believe you did that!"

" It was just an harmless prank!" Bryan exclaimed defensively.

" How is glueing our teacher's butt to a chair harmless?!"

" All she had to do was shift!, And that way, she'd be out of her clothes and boom!, Problem solved!"

" Whatever, just hurry up. I don't want to be late for my first training session with Coach Ryan."

" You have the day off why would you spend it in school?!"

" I've spent too much time away from school. I have a lot to catch up on."

" Yeah, yeah, whatever." He said entering the main office while I stayed outside in the hallway.

The warning bell rang and I sighed. The hallway was gradually getting empty. I walked down the hallway taking in the changes that had occurred when I bumped into someone.

" I am so sorry!" I pleaded helping her pack her books that had fallen when we collided.

"It's okay." She said so quietly I almost didn't hear her.

I finally got to look at her face and it turned out to be the same girl I had seen earlier.

' Mate!' Claws exclaimed fighting for control. We both fought for a while and I finally won.

" Are you okay?" She asked gently placing her hand on mine. I looked down at it and gulped.

She had no idea of what that simple gesture was doing to me.

" Yeah, I'm fine." I replied handing her books over to her.

I was about to speak when Bryan came out of nowhere.

" Dude I-, oh hey Iris!"

" Hey Bryan." She replied smiling.

" Well, I gotta go. It was nice meeting you Cole." She said walking off.

' She knows your name!' Claws gushed and I mentally rolled my eyes.

Everyone in this school knows my name Claws.

" Who's that?" I asked Bryan as we made our way to the training area.

" Iris Gonzalez, Royal floor." He replied.

" Animal?"

" None yet." He replied quietly.

" How long had she been here-"

" Two months."

" And she hasn't shifted?, Is that even possible?"

" Nobody knows. But just because she doesn't have her powers doesn't mean she can't kick-ass."

" What do you mean?"

" That girl is ranked number one best fighter and she can handle any weapon there is. But she is absolutely deadly!, with daggers and her bow and arrow." He explained as we entered the training area.

We changed into our training clothes in the locker room and started our warm ups.

" Hernandez!" Coach Ryan called and Bryan and I made our way over to him.

" It's good to have you back son."

" It's good to be back coach." I replied grinning.

" Awwn, coach what about me?!" Bryan whined batting his lashes. Coach glared at him then walked off.

" Listen up, the shifters from the aerial floor will be training with us today because their coach had an emergency. I want 8 laps around the field now!, Bryan 12 laps for you ." Coach said smirking and Bryan groaned.

" What did you do this time?" I asked as I caught up with him.

" I might have dyed his hair pink."

" How did you-, you know what, I'm not gonna bother asking."

" It was hilarious. His animal was pink!, Can you believe that?, A pink bear!"

" You deserve worse." I stated and he grinned running ahead of me.

I scanned the faces here but I couldn't find her so I tried tracking her scent but she wasn't here

' You should have given me control.'

' And let you mark her there?!, No way!'

' What's wrong with marking her there?'

' Are you kidding me?!, She'll hate me. You keep forgetting that not all mates are wolves. She might not feel the pull of the mate bond like I do. She needs time.'

' Fine! Do it your way!' Claws said before I blocked him out.

We finished our laps and lined up facing Coach.

" We're going be having a contest. Girls vs Boys. The winners get their laps cut down for a week." Coach announced and we all grinned.

" Rose will be the team captain for the girls and for the boys, Hernandez?"

" Sure!" I replied and went to shake Rose.

" Get ready to lose."

" I should be telling you that." She replied with a smirk. I looked at Bryan who glared at me.

He had a massive crush on Rose but he's too shy to ask her out.

The first round was regular dodge ball and the boys won. The doors of the training area opened and Iris walked in.

" Gonzalez!, You're late!."

" Sorry coach." She replied tucking a stray strand of hair behind her hair. Our eyes met and my pulse raced. I felt Claws surfacing but I pushed him back.

" You have five minutes to get changed and join us."

" Thank you sir." Iris replied walking to the locker room.

I was shocked at how easily coach let her go.

' Maybe he's gone soft.' I thought to myself.

Then coach yelled at a freshman till he cried.

' Nope!, Still as terrifying as ever.'

Iris joined us right as we were about to select the participants for the second round which was track.

I chose Caleb who's the fastest runner in the entire school. And Rose chose Iris.

I was so confident that Caleb would win when the race started. But now that it has ended, I'm so confused.

" How is that possible?!" I cried and Bryan snorted.

" It's best not to question it."

A couple rounds later and we were tied.

" This is the final round and tie breaker. This round is an obstacle course. The first person to get the flag wins. In this challenge you'll have to decide if you want to go with an armour or not. The armour will probably slow you down. But!, It will protect you from the various weapons that will be flying at you."

I chose Chase and suited him with the armour. Rose chose Iris again and started suiting her with the armour. When Iris stopped her.

" I'm not going with the armour."

" Are you crazy?!" Rose exclaimed and she shrugged.

" Gonzalez are you sure?" Coach Ryan asked and she nodded.

The round started with Iris in the lead. She moved swiftly yet gracefully. I watched as she handled her weapons and finally understood what Bryan meant when he said she was deadly.

She finally got to the end of the course where the flag sat but she stopped.

" What are you doing?!, Move!" Rose yelled.

She took a small dagger and threw it in the floor and arrows came flying out of nowhere.

" That was so unexpected." Bryan stated.

Iris finally took the flag and raised it up in victory.

" The girls win!" Coach yelled and the girls cheered. Coach gave us the rest of the period off and everyone hung around the area in groups although most of us had changed back to our uniforms

I watched as they congratulated each participant but noticed that Rose was the only one who congratulated Iris.

" Good game." I said shaking Rose's hand.

" I believe you said something about us losing?!" She said playfully and I rolled my eyes smiling. Her eyes flickered to Bryan who had been awfully quiet since Rose walked over.

" Where's Iris?" I asked curiously and she smiled slyly.

" In the locker room."

The doors of the training area opened and two people I never expected to see walked in.

" Oh- ooh- oh my- That's Dylan and Emma!" Bryan squealed.

I would have laughed at him but I was equally shocked. And so was everyone in the entire room. Coach Ryan walked up to them grinning and they got talking.

" I thought they retired?" Bryan asked.

" No. They just took some time off to start a family. Their daughter should be about our age." I replied.

Rose was about to say something when she was cut off by a voice.

" What are you guys doing here?"

The entire room went silent as Iris spoke and then it finally clicked

Dylan and Emma Gonzalez.

Iris Gonzalez.

Iris was their daughter.
