Chapter

After Marsh made the introduction, Becky listened absent–mindedly to the rest of Marsh’s explanation.

As she walked into the restroom, she felt the chilling touch of cold water. It was then that she brought her wandering mind to the present.

As Becky lifted her head, she was startled to see the reflection of a handsome face behind her in the

mirror.

She quickly turned around and said, “You, um, why…” She then thought, “Why are you here?”

However, before Becky finished talking, the man reached out and firmly held her chin, forcing her to look up into his condescending gaze.

“Can’t the things you have gained after two years of marriage satisfy you?” the man said.

He smirked and said sarcastically, “You were so decisive in asking for a divorce, but after that, you still went to great lengths to approach me and join the company.”

There was a look of surprise and doubt in the depths of Becky’s eyes. Just as she thought of speaking up to retort, the force of his fingers caused her a subtle pain.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Becky said as she met his deep, dark eyes. There was no sign of backing down in her eyes. “Before coming here, I did not know that this company was under your control.”

Sigmund let out a contemptuous chuckle and casually said, “That had better be the truth.”

After saying that, he released his restraining grip.

He turned around and walked to the nearby sink, leisurely turning on the faucet and carefully washing the parts of his hand that had just touched Becky.

It was as if Becky were some dirty pest. This caused Becky to be dumbfounded.

Sigmund did not believe anything that she said.

He had been childhood friends with Becky for so many years. She claimed to have never known that he was in charge of this company. He found her statement laughable and thought she was incredibly foolish to come up with such a flimsy lie.

As the feeling of disgust deepened within him, his grip tightened with increasing force.

“You don’t have to believe me,” Becky said, looking at his profile which showed that he was deep in thought. “Let’s pretend we’re strangers to each other.”

Her words were spoken softly, but each word was spoken clearly and distinctly.

Chapter 8

This job was introduced by her teacher, Marina, so Becky had to complete the probationary period

no matter what.

Initially, Becky thought the job might be okay, but once she found out it was Sigmund’s company, she made up her mind that she would not take the job.

No matter how high the salary was, she would not accept a permanent position.

Sigmund turned off the faucet and cast a disdainful glance at her. He remained composed.

He had no intention of engaging in further conversation with her, so he turned around and left the

restroom.

If Becky were to do something she should not do, he would have an excuse to kick her out of the company at any time.

Naturally, Brigham could not defend her then.

Becky left the office. Shortly after getting into the taxi, a ringing sound could be heard from her shoulder bag.

She took out her phone. When she saw the caller’s name, she fell silent for a moment.

With a swipe of her finger, she still pressed the answer button.

As soon as the call was connected, Sabrina’s familiar voice could be heard. She said, “Hello, Becky. Didn’t I ask you to return with Mr. Moolery to have dinner? How did he respond in the end?”

As Becky heard Sabrina’s urging tone right from the beginning, she could not help but feel annoyed.

Becky pressed her tightly knit eyebrows and spoke in a slightly hoarse voice. “Hasn’t that embarrassing incident at the wedding made you give up?” she said.

Sigmund did not even bother to show up in person at the wedding. Hence, he was unlikely to go. back with Becky for a meal.

He knew very well the true colors of this family.

At the other end of the line, Sabrina was well aware of that embarrassing incident at the wedding. but she would not let Becky off easily.

“After losing face so badly last time, you must bring him back this time no matter what,” Sabrina.

said.

Sabrina was not bothered by other things. In her mind, Becky’s reputation was secondary. The main issue was that their family had already lost so much face this time. They could not let their family’s reputation be ruined any further.

Becky looked at the scenery outside the window and casually said, “It’s not something I can decide.”

“Do not make excuses for your helplessness,” Sabrina said. “I only care about the outcome. If something bad happens to the Wood family, you will be the main culprit who causes the Wood family to be destroyed. Your father will never be able to rest in peace in the afterlife!” Sabrina expressed her thoughts with a firm attitude. She then hung up the phone without waiting for Becky’s response.

Upon hearing the busy tone from the other end of the line, a glint of negative emotion flashed in Becky’s eyes.

“After lying dormant for so many years, it’s time to wrap things up,” she thought to herself.

She dowered her head, playing with her pinky ring. She curled her lip a little.

“Sabrina values the Wood family so much, so I’ll show her then what true destruction means,” she thought to herself.

Late into the night, Sigmund returned home again. The overpowering and lingering smell of strong alcohol hit Becky once again.

When Becky saw him push the door open and enter, she instinctively furrowed her brow.

Furrowing the brow was a subtle action. However, Sigmund noticed that.

“Feeling uncomfortable, huh?” Sigmund said as he took off his suit jacket, revealing a white shirt with a tie on the collar. He then bent forward.

As Becky recalled the scene from the previous night, she involuntarily moved a few steps backward.

Seeing her gesture of resistance, Sigmund looked at her with a deep and penetrating gaze. He sneered and said, “Do you think I would force you?

“Don’t think too highly of yourself.”

Becky remained silent as she looked at him.

He stood up, his expression filled with disdain, and distanced himself further from her.

He turned his body sideways and casually removed his necktie. Then, he deftly unbuttoned the buttons on his chest, revealing his fair collarbones.

Under the influence of alcohol, his fair skin seemed to have a thin layer of powder on the surface. The light shining upon it accentuated the delicate shadows of the collarbone, adding a touch of seductive allure.

When Sigmund saw her looking at him amorously, his attitude changed abruptly. Suddenly, his tone turned cold as he said, “Get out.”

“If I’m not mistaken, this is my room, right?” Becky said. “If anyone should leave, it should be Mr. Moolery.” Becky raised her gaze to meet his eyes showing no signs of her previous

compromise.

After Becky’s father passed away, her mother remarried her uncle. Brigham took pity on Becky, so he brought her to live in the old manor.

She had stayed there for seven years so far. She stayed here from the age of fifteen. She was presently twenty–two years old.

Indeed, this was her room in the Moolery family’s residence.

Sigmund looked at Becky’s candid and clear eyes, He was angered by Becky’s shamelessness, but he also found it somewhat amusing. Hence, he laughed. “Becky, how come I did not realize in the past that you are not only a habitual liar but also that shameless?” he said. “This is the Moolery family’s residence! Your surname is not Moolery. Just because you have been living here for so many years, you think you are a part of this family, huh

“Come to think of it; it shouldn’t be surprising. After all, you are even willing to marry a dog, so you are someone with no sense of dignity at all.”

Every remark he uttered was like a sharp blade stabbing at Becky’s heart.

Perhaps Becky had become numb, as she showed no sign of the pain and sadness she used to feel. She retorted sarcastically, “Indeed, I’ve married a dog, but I’ve come to my senses and gotten a divorce. Don’t worry. Once I have the divorce certificate, I will explain everything to Brigham. I won’t stay here anymore. Now, please leave my room, Mr. Moolery.”

After a brief pause, she continued, “By the way, I need you to spare some time tomorrow to accompany me back to the Wood family’s residence.”
