Chapter 4 

Pearl instigated a huge change in the company. The first to go included senior executives, directors, and those who attempted to undermine Pearl’s authority with Ralph and Errol.

Pearl showed Ralph the list of personnel changes first. She wanted Ralph to know. she was dismissing those who plotted against her, and he couldn’t do anything about it. “Uncle Ralph, the company isn’t what it once was. We can’t afford to keep idlers. I’ve exhausted my savings to keep it running. Otherwise, we may have to sell properties and land. I heard you bought a piece of land in the northern suburbs to build a golf course…”

Ralph changed his attitude when his interests were threatened. He agreed.

Pearl grinned. Ralph and Errol were too easy to deal with.

However, it was a different story on Ralph’s side. His office was crowded with angry employees in the morning. One of them shouted, “I don’t give a d**n. I’ve worked hard for so long. You’re the one who kicked up a fuss against your niece. Why am I

fired for it?”

Others joined in the clamor, demanding explanations. Their faces were twisted in

fury, their composure gone.

Ralph’s head pounded. “Relax, guys. Chill.”

Errol played with his newly acquired rosary. He didn’t care because his position as

vice–chairman was secured.

Ralph did his best to placate the senior employees, but he was unmoved. After all,

his position as chairman was unaffected and his interests weren’t threatened.

Pearl couldn’t be bothered dealing with the uproar. Her goal was achieved. She left the company and went home. It was time to clean up her home. Pearl heard that it had been occupied by a bunch of pests.

Woolery Court, also known as Rose Garden, was originally a rose park. Because Pearl and her mother loved roses, her father, Ken Woolery, bought the land to build a månor. Pearl had many beautiful memories there.

It was May. The roses in Nanston were in full bloom. Machodean was colder than Nanston. When she left Males House, the roses hadn’t blossomed yet.

Pearl’s eyes dimmed. Thinking about Marc still made her heart hurt. However, she had decided to leave, so she would try to let go.

Pearl drove into the manor, excited to see the roses. When she got out, she discovered the roses her father had planted were long gone. The garden had been changed. Anger surged within Pearl.

Suddenly, Pearl heard giggles. She turned to see her cousin, Tina Woolery, and her former boyfriend, Manfred Day, walking out, chatting and laughing.

Tina wore a white lace dress and a diamond tiara hairpin, looking as though she was

the owner of this place.

“Tina? Manfred? It’s been some time.” Pearl stood at the entrance, arms crossed,

staring coldly at them. Sunlight fell on her, giving her a dominating presence.

Tina paled, almost stumbling down the stairs. She staggered and fell to the ground. She pointed at Pearl and gasped, “P–Pearl!”

Manfred’s gaze followed Tina. When he caught sight of Pearl, he couldn’t be bothered with helping Tina to her feet. He shouted, “You’re a ghost!”

“Feeling guilty? I’m here for your lives. Are you ready?” Pearl smiled brightly as she

walked toward them.
