Soul Searcher Book 1
CHAPTER THREE

Hey Khloe,” Cassie makes her way up to the ticket booth after having weaved across the club, through the sea of people crowding the dance floor. “Has anyone come in here in the last fifteen minutes?”

Khloe twists her light brown hair around her index finger as she thinks for a moment and then she starts to shake her head no. “Oh wait! That’s a lie. Some dude came in not too long ago, but I had to turn him away because he didn’t have a ticket and we are sold out.” Before Khloe can say anything more though, the phone begins to ring, and she turns her attention towards answering the phone call.

Dang it, Cassie thinks to herself. She didn’t know exactly why but she had wanted to see the guy up close. “Okay. Well thanks,” she speaks in a loud whisper as she waves goodbye to Khloe. Glancing at her phone, she realizes that the band is just about to end their set. “Shit!” Making her way back through the crowd as quickly as she can, she came to stand by Jason behind the bar just as a surge of people bombarded them with drink orders.

The rest of the night flew by and before she knew it, Jason was shouting “last call” to all the lingering bodies that continued to mill about in hopes of getting to meet the bands that played. Twenty minutes later he gave ‘the word’ to have the bouncers usher people out the doors. The Star-Sky locked its doors and closed every night between 12:30a.m and 2a.m.

Once all the patrons had dispersed, the staff and the bands that were still hanging around all gathered around the bar and had a few drinks. “Hey Cassie, some of the staff and I are going to go over to Pete’s bar since they don’t close until 4a.m. and have a few more drinks. Would you like to go with us? Two of the bands are going to follow us over there as well.” Jason looks hopeful as he poses his question to Cassie.

“Oh, uh... No, I better not. I’m still recuperating from last night’s escapades.” She grimaced but not because of last night’s debauchery. She knew Jason liked her more than ‘just as a friend’. Since she didn’t want to hurt him but still wanted to be friends with him, she tried her best not to hang out with him too much because she didn’t want to mislead him, give him false hope when she knew she didn’t like him in the same way. “But you guys go and have fun. I’ll see you tomorrow night at 6:30, okay.” Waving goodbye to them all, she walked into the stairwell that led up to her apartment where she flung her door wide open and made her way into her bedroom.

With a sigh Cassie removed herself from the comforts of her bed as she realized she had forgotten to lock her apartment door after she had walked inside. She hadn’t known how exhausted she was until she sluggishly went to her front door and turned the deadbolt. Turning from the door, she went back into her bedroom and with what little energy she had left, removed all but her bra and panties. Stretching across her bed, she grabbed her extra-large 80’s themed tee-shirt and threw it over her head and then flopped face down on her comforter, not bothering to undo the blankets, she fell asleep within minutes.

Cassie began to shiver. Placing her hands across her chest, she starts rubbing her arms in an attempt to warm herself up. Why in the world does it feel like I’m inside a walk-in freezer. Looking around the cold empty room though, she knew this was not true. However, wherever she was, she had never been to the place before that she could recall. No matter how hard she ran her hands up and down her arms trying to create friction in an attempt to produce heat, she couldn’t seem to get herself warm either. The cold was so extreme at this point that now her teeth were chattering as well.

What in the hell is going on, she thought to herself as she tried to make anything out that she could recognize in hopes of figuring out where she might be? Hearing a noise come from somewhere behind her, she spun on her heel to see what may have caused the sound. “Hello? Is someone out there?” Her voice echoes as she shouts the words. The room has gone silent once more. The dim lighting makes it hard to see but she is able to make out the outline of rounded pillars made entirely of cement. Suddenly a shiver travels the length of her body but not from the cold, Cassie’s intuition springs to life, and she knows she is no longer alone.

“Eh hem,” whomever just cleared their throat was somewhere in close proximity to where Cassie was standing. Turning to look behind her, she screams out, “aahhh,” jumping a mile at the same time. “W-wh-o, are you? Where am I?” And even though she had never met the guy before, Cassie felt an instant connection to him, as though she knew him somehow. She stares at him as she tries to figure out why he looks so familiar to her. Looking into his amethyst-colored eyes that seemed to frost over as she gazes at him, she feels as though she is drowning in the strange lavender hues. Her breath hitches and Cassie realizes she has been gazing at him a little too long and so she tilts her head and arches an eyebrow waiting for him to give her an answer.

I stare baffled at this chick. How in the hell has she invaded my dream? I have never had a human sleep-step into one of my dreams before. “How are you in my dream?” I ask with hatred in my voice trying to cover the state of shock that I’m currently experiencing.

“Wh-what are you talking about? I’m pretty sure this is my dream.” The chick glares at me and it causes me to chuckle to myself.

With a smirk I sneer at her, “I’ve got news for you, sweetness. This is my dream and I know it is because I’ve been stuck in this room for the last twenty minutes. You just suddenly appeared,” I flash my hands outward to represent the sudden appearance of her, “out of thin air. Are you a witch or something?”

“Yeah, o-o-ok-a-a-a-y. Whatever you say darlin’,” the girl adds the endearment at the end to mock me or at least, I’m pretty sure that’s why she said it. I harden my gaze as I continue to stare at her. I have never met such a beautiful human before. I suddenly have this urge to walk up to her and kiss the hell out of her! Shaking my head, I open my mouth to respond to her comment, but I find myself at a loss for words.

Hopping off the ledge that I had been perched upon while I myself tried to figure out why I was having such a strange dream, I stormed towards her quickly trying to intimidate her as I did so. It takes every ounce of self-control to not place my hands on either side of her face, against her peaches and cream complexion, to caress her cheeks with my thumbs and pull her into me and kiss the hell out of her. Instead, I snarl out, “get out of my damn dream sweetheart!”

Normally I can scare the shit out of people just by staring deep into their eyes, this is not the case this time. A fierceness flashing across her breathtakingly beautiful blue eyes, she stands her ground, not backing away from me or cowering in the slightest. My willpower is now on the verge of shattering, and I know if I stay here any longer, I will most definitely be kissing her! With a growl, I throw my hands in the air and turn from her. “Whatever chick. I’ll find my way out of here. Enjoy your dream.”

“Hey! My name is Cassie, NOT chick and screw you! I’m out of here.” Cassie jolts awake breathing hard and looks around to make sure she wasn’t still in the insanely cold room. Who in the hell was that asshat! Grr, I wanted to punch him in the stomach so freaking hard that he wouldn’t be able to breathe for a week!

Trying to push thoughts of that jerk out of her mind she managed to get her breathing leveled out, Cassie picked up her phone to see what time it was. Three-thirty in the freaking morning, Dammit! Heaving a sigh, she rolls out of her bed and walks into the bathroom. “My stupid freaking bladder,” she mutters to herself as she shuts the door behind her.
