Ch. 4 Khloe

Breathe, or at least I try to tell myself to do so. Smiling, I hesitate for a second before complying with Samael’s question of sitting down next to him. My body trembles as I lower myself to the piece of wood. If I moved my leg just the slightest bit, my thigh would be pressed against his. Ugh! I’m not normally a shy person so why can’t I move to be closer to him? I berate myself for the shyness that has consumed me. Luck must be on my side though as I feel him shift and then his leg is leaning against mine. The warmth of his body causes a pleasant shiver to course through my body, and I move my eyes from the sand I had been staring at to look at his face, to gaze into his uniquely blue colored eyes that remind me of a frozen lake.

Sam stares at me for a moment before asking, “did you feel that?” I look at him curiously, arching an eyebrow as I do so. He laughs before shaking his head; “an odd shiver of sorts just ran the length of my body. I thought maybe you had felt it too. Sorry, I’ve just got a silly notion rolling around in my mind. I’m being ridiculous. So, how’s your night been so far?” Samael switched gears so fast it left my head spinning for a second.

“Um, actually, I did have a shiver course through me. I think I’m experiencing a bit of shock that you have felt the same thing,” I responded with a half laugh. As I continue to look into his eyes, I unconsciously reach out to him with my right hand, placing it over top his. I had wanted to ask him to elaborate about the ‘silly notion’ he was pondering but when I placed my hand on his all thoughts and questions vanished from my mind. We both gasp, automatically pulling our hands away from one another at having felt and seen a current of electricity spark, crackle, in a vibrant purple and electric blue hue flare between us. “Wh-what the...”

“Hell’s gate! What just happened?” Sam asked at the same time that my question fell short of being spoken. We turned wide eyes to each other, and I see wonder, curiosity flash in his eyes as I’m sure he saw the same thing in mine but add a bit of confusion to mine as well. Silence descends upon us as we continue to stare at each other. Neither of us are able to form any coherent sentences. “No freaking way!” Sam abruptly jumps from his seat, his breathing ragged. “I’ve got to go, Khloe. I’m sorry. I’ll see you later.”

I’m left stuttering, “w-w-wait!” but faster than I could blink, Samael disappeared. Glancing around as it’s open space, sand, and water; I wonder where he could have gone to so quickly that I can’t even see his backside vanishing into the distance. Sighing, I stand and make my way back to my car so I can drive home to my parents’ house.

Around 11a.m. the next morning I received a text from Cassie asking if I’d like to get lunch with her and Ginny. Sending a text saying yes, I then turn the water on to the bathtub so that I can take a quick shower. After the water has warmed up, I climb in and lift the tab to let the water pelt against my skin relaxing the muscles in my body. Sometime later I finally conceded to shut the water off and step out so I can wrap a dry towel around my body. Drying off I slip into some clean clothes and get in my car before leaving my driveway and heading towards the 50’s café.

Walking towards the entrance I see Ginny coming my way and we go into the café together. I spot Cassie sitting in one of the red plastic covered booths and we head over to where she is seated. Sliding onto the bench across from Cass, I see Ginny sliding onto the same bench where Cassie is. After we sit down Cassie lets her head bounce back and forth between us for a second before asking; “so... Did you guys have fun last night?”

Ginny waggles her eyebrows at Cass suggestively before flipping her question and saying, “we should be asking you if you had a fun time last night since you disappeared on us!” We both give her wide grins and watch as Cassie’s face flushes in tints of red and pink but instead of answering she rolls her eyes before allowing a mischievous twinkle to settle in them. Just then the waitress strolls over to us, depositing our drinks upon the table. The waitress whose name tag says ‘Betty Sue’, asks if we were ready to order but we asked if she could come back in a few minutes because we hadn’t decided what we wanted to eat yet.

Placing my straw into my cup of soda I then shift my eyes to Cassie’s ocean blue ones. My voice almost has a shyness about it as I ask, “hey, what do you know about Rim’s friend, Samael? He just seems so different from other guys in this town. There’s a uniqueness about him that intrigues me...” I trail off not sure as to what I was even trying to say to her. I apparently caught Cassie off guard by this question and she ends up choking on the cola she had in her mouth.

“Oh, uh, um... I probably know as much about him as you guys do. I just know he’s been friends with Rim for a long time. Looking over at Ginny I see disappointment drawn on her face and I am more than likely mirroring her look. Cassie sees the expressions upon our faces and stares at us in shock for moment before loudly saying (not quite shouting), “don’t tell me you BOTH are interested in him?”

Neither Ginny nor I can hold the laughter inside and we let it spill forth before Ginny chimes in; “why are you so surprised? He’s hot as hell with his ivory white skin tone, pitch-black unruly hair that falls into his eyes, oh, oh, his eyes,” Ginny sighs dreamily for a second. “He totally has that bad-boy, vampire vibe about him and is shrouded in mystery making him all the more alluring. Of course, we’re both interested in him!”

Cassie grimaces, “I don’t think he’s a very good guy you two. I suggest you both stay as far away from him as you possibly can. I know the bad-boy persona is appealing but he is genuinely a very bad dude.” We burst out laughing at her because of how serious her tone of voice is. The food that we had ordered in between our fits of laughter and conversation over Samael has arrived and I can tell Cassie has realized she isn’t going to sway us away from our interest in him, so she picks up her massive hamburger and continues to take a large bite out of it. I hear her mutter a ‘whatever,’ which causes the grin on my face to widen but I choose to drop the discussion as the French fries I had ordered were calling my name.
