Chapter 8 

The man glanced over. 

Without saying a word, nor making any unnecessary movements, the faint surging emotions in his eyes and the palpable pressure around him still caused people to retreat. 

Anya pursed her lips and subconsciously stepped aside, not daring to black his way. 

She did not know if it was her illusion, but she felt that… Matthew was surprisingly cold to her now. 

Sometimes, he would indulge and pamper her, making her want to drown in his eyes, while sometimes, he was so cold that it was suffocating. 

As soon as Matthew left, someone came over and inquired, “Anya, why did Mr. Shadwell come and go so quickly?” 

“Oh, he specifically came over to inform me that the company had something important to attend to, so he departed first.” 

“That’s great. Mr. Shadwell is so busy, and he even told you such a small thing!” 

“My boyfriend has never cared so much about me. Mr. Shadwell is so good to you!” 

The car soon arrived at the parking lot. 

After washing up, Matthew casually tied a towel and came out. 

Victoria did not come back, and the house seemed a little empty. 

The man walked to the coffee table and glanced at the thermos cup placed there. 

After a while, he pulled the corner of his mouth and let out a sneer, “Stupid.” 

It was just a text message, but she could not wait to send it to him. Did Victoria, that stupid woman, still think that he would be moved by her little care? 

What was even more stupid was that he actually brought back the soup that she had cooked…. 

Matthew’s face sank, and a cold chill settled in his eyes. 

There was a long silence. 

Matthew expressionlessly opened the lid, and the steam rose, making his three–dimensional facial features a little blurry. 

It was a familiar smell. 

He suddenly stood up and poured all the soup into the trash can, along with the thermos cup, into it. 

Just like Victoria, who only deserved to be thrown into the trash can. 

After doing all of this, a moment of exhaustion hit him. 

Matthew closed his eyes and forced down the frustration in his heart. He went to the study. 

The next morning, South Manor stood in a thin layer of mist. 

Victoria tidied up her books, got up, and went downstairs. 

She was still studying Law in A University, so she would wake up early when there was an early class. 

Bruce and Annie had been waiting downstairs for a long time. When he saw her come down, he didn’t give her a hard time. Instead, he said, “Why don’t you take a seat and have some breakfast? Young folks these days don’t eat breakfast, and it’s not good for their health. You need to take better care of yourself!” 

Victoria was stunned for a moment. She slowed down and did not realize that Bruce was concerned about her. 

Annie, who was at the side, quickly said to her, “Your dad didn’t mean to yell at you last night. He was just concerned. Plus, it was your birthday. It’s okay if Anya spent the night with her friends outside. But your dad and I wanted to celebrate your special day, but you came back late and didn’t let us know beforehand. He was just anxious and scared, that’s why he shouted. He was only worried about you….” 

As she spoke, she gave Bruce a glance. 

Bruce cleared his throat and looked at Victoria with rare gentleness. He handed her a box. “It was your birthday yesterday. Dad doesn’t know what you like, so I just picked a little…” 

Victoria sat down stiffly in front of him, and her heart was like a stone. 

Since the mother and daughter pair entered the Nelson family, Victoria and Bruce had never had such a tender time. Bruce’s mind was all on them. He had not celebrated Victoria’s birthday for several years. 

Victoria knew that she was annoyingly sentimental, yet she still couldn’t stop herself from wrinkling her nose.
