Chapter 79 

The dimly lit city lights and the distant liveliness could not compare to the silence that filled the air at that moment. Victoria was snugly wrapped in a bath towel and gently laid on the large bed. 

She curled up and listened to the sound of the running water in the bathroom. Sitting up, she poured herself a cup of steaming hot water. 

one by one.When Matthew emerged, he saw half of her body protruding from the quilt. Her pale arms were propping up her torso, one hand clasping the cup, and the other hand methodically popping the white pills into her mouth one at a 

time. 

“Victoria.” 

The man’s face suddenly grew cold, and the blood that had been coursing through his body seemed to reverse its flow. Without a second thought, he strode forward and snatched the medicine from her hand. 

Bang – 

The cup plummeted to the ground and shattered into pieces. 

“What have you eaten?” 

Mathew’s voice was chillier than the shattering of glass. 

Victoria was taken aback for a moment before explaining. “It’s just the melatonin…” 

Matthew disbelieved her, his gaze fixed on the bottle in her hand. 

He found no errors in the complex English words. 

“With your English proficiency, you should be able to recognize that this is just plain old melatonin.” Victoria struggled to free his hand. 

Matthew said nothing, holding the pill between his fingers, his expression carefully controlled. 

“Even if it’s melatonin, you shouldn’t overindulge. 

Victoria nodded and looked at him curiously. “I know,” she said. “What did you think I was eating just now? Why did you get so mad?” 

“It’s nothing,” Matthew said, his back still turned to her. 

He donned his clothes and fastened his belt slowly. 

“Are you planning to go?” Victoria asked, her brow furrowing. 

“Do you reckon I’ll stay the night with you?” 

“Victoria, don’t get too full of yourself,” Matthew said with a sarcastic chuckle. 

Victoria clenched her fists slowly. 

After a while, her mouth curved into a faint smile. 

He was correct; she was overly sentimental. 

To him, Mrs. Shadwell was nothing but a name. 

It was merely a tool to warm his bed; how could she have expected him to sleep with her? 

The cold night wind blew. 

Most of the people had already drifted off to sleep by then. 

Belkan City was a city that never slumbered. 

The night grew increasingly animated with people who were unwilling to bid farewell to the world. 

Jaime was roused from sleep by a call from Matthew. 

The phone on the bedside table kept ringing incessantly. He picked it up and, with a groggy voice, spoke with displeasure and chilliness from being disturbed, “You’d better have something important.” 

“Come out, Matthew commanded succinctly. 

“Matthew, you might be a real workaholic but others need to take a break. 

“Let’s grab a drink together.” 

Jaime paused momentarily, becoming much more alert. 

Matthew rarely made such requests, his self–control being highly perverse. 

“I’ll be at the address shortly,” he said, rubbing his forehead. 

Cloud Nine. 

By the time Jaime got there. Matthew had already ordered a line of wine. 

When he saw his figure from afar, he frowned. “Why did you stay up so late and call me over to drink? Did Victoria hurt. you?” he asked. 

Upon hearing Victoria’s name, Matthew’s expression sank. 

Under the dim light, his facial features grew more and more striking. 

He said naught. He lifted his head and gulped a glass of whiskey. Then, he passed a pill to Jaime. “Assist me in ascertaining what pill this is.” 

Hearing this, Jaime picked up the pill and examined it a few times. “You didn’t call me at this hour just to ask me to do this for you, did you?” 

“Give me the results as soon as possible,” Matthew said as he slammed the glass down on the table.
