After trying for some time, I finally managed to pull myself out of the professor's grip. Then, I tried to explain, "Professor, I need to find Winston..."

"I don't care what you need him for. The preliminaries are starting tomorrow. So, we need to have simulations this afternoon. I won't allow anyone to affect the participants' mood for any reason until the competition is over."

"I'm not trying to affect him, I just.....'

"No. Go to the hotel front desk to get the rooms ready. Do it now! Just focus on your own tasks and don't meddle in anything else."

Alright, I couldn't do anything else with his authoritarian tone.

I shot Winston a fierce glare before reluctantly going to the front desk.

As the professor was leading this team personally, everything had to be well-arranged. Even though I was supposed to be a tutor, I was mainly running errands, acting as a mediator, and making sure that the professor was in good health so that he could return safely to see his wife.

During our week-long stay in Denville, the participants were kept confined in the competition venue until they were done.

I was bored out of my mind with nothing else to do. So, I chatted with Zara twice. She didn't say much and just kept crying both times.

We used to be together every day as kids and could face anything together.

Now that we had all grown up, we were so far from each other, which made it difficult to meet, let alone support each other through tough times like before.

No matter what, she had her own life and I had mine. Our companionship and feelings could only be conveyed through the phone. So, all I could do was cry with her as she cried uncontrollably in front of her phone camera.

Being an adult was really tough. How I wished we could stay as kids forever.

"Silly girl, don't cry all the time. There are so many men in the world. Why does it have to be Chris? There were so many tall and handsome guys from our school. I'll set you up on blind dates with every one of them when I go back, okay? We'lkfind someone much better than Chris."

LAK

But she would always say that she was fine and told me not to worry She asked me to focus on leading the team and said that everything was in the past. But she was not ready to start a new love life yet.

She was not ready because she couldn't forget about Chris.

I still didn't know why they broke up even after the competition ended.

And Xavier, that annoying guy, didn't show up at Denville. So, it was really just the professor playing a prank on Colin.

I didn't know what Colin did to make the professor pull such a prank on him.

The competition ended on the

afternoon of the sixth day. As the

participants came out from the sealed venue, they immediately rushed over to grab the large bag in my hand. After finding their phones, they started making calls and sending messages to their families and friends.

The constant chattering made me uncomfortable.

After everyone had vented their pent-up emotions, they finally quieted down. The professor announced that the competition was over. Regardless of the results, we would go out to celebrate in the evening.

I booked a barbecue restaurant in advance. I chose it as I thought it was perfect for young people.

I just sat in a corner, watching them grill large plates of beef. They drizzled oil over it, making the meat sizzle. The air was filled with a mouth-watering aroma.
