"Colin, your girlfriend is so pretty. She looks rather familiar. You have good taste. Lucky you!"

"Yes, she's pretty, so much so that I worry constantly if I'm good-looking enough for her." Colin put my hand on his shoulder and flaunted proudly.

"Come on, Colin. Stop showing off. No need to tell us how single we are." The ones approaching were all men, and they complimented us upon seeing me walking hand in hand with Colin. They looked at me respectfully and admirably without any sense of perversion.

They gave genuine compliments, and Colin returned with genuine responses. I, too, felt genuinely happy. Men often needed their men's talk. I didn't want to disturb Colin and his friends, so I took a step back, creating enough space to hear the friendly chit-chat between them.

They saw my polite gesture and complimented my sensibility. They also mentioned that Colin was so lucky to have found such a classy woman as his girlfriend. As the recipient of these commendations, he smiled ear to ear.

Deep down, I was delighted. I took in their words and proudly accepted their compliments. Since I was slightly behind them, I couldn't hear the conversation clearly. It took me a while to notice they were Jasmine's ex-classmates at Jesselton College.

They had all split up and were now working in various places. Many flew back upon receiving Jasmine's invitation. One of them even went straight to the event hall as soon as he landed.

My jaw fell to the ground. I couldn't believe that Jasmine was influential enough to unite all her ex-classmates, who were dispersed all over the country, to celebrate her birthday.

Jasmine, who was talking to several other women, heard us. Gavin then pushed her toward us. She was wearing a red dress, her lustrous hair cascading on her shoulder. Her delicate makeup made her look extra innocent, and her eyes lit up the moment she saw Colin.

With a sweet smile not unlike that of a lovestruck woman, she gently cooed, "Why didn't you come in to greet me when you came, Colin? I invited our ex-classmates specially for you. It's so that you can have a reunion with them."

She spoke in a manner that made people think she was close to Colin. After all, not many could call Colin by his first name. Yet the implied message in her words put Colin on high alert.

It was her birthday party. She never mentioned that she'd invite her ex-classmates. And now, she mentioned that she only invited them for Colin. In other words, she was suggesting that she only held the party for Colin. Now that was a cheeky move.

Looking at her elaborate attire, I wondered if she had amnesia. Even I felt secondhand embarrassment from the situation she was in yesterday. Yet today, she acted as if nothing had ever happened.

She was put in her place last night yet continued to mingle with us as if she were a good friend. How did she do that? She also implied that she threw the party for Colin. Was this a plan she devised overnight to make Colin look back or was it a ruse to seduce him?

Regardless, her childishness disgusted me.

Colin was standing in a position such that the rose arch next to him completely covered me. Due to the blind spot, Jasmine couldn't see me and couldn't have known that I was present. My absence seemed to fuel her desire to seduce Colin.

Perhaps assuming that Colin came alone and that he wouldn't refuse her in front of everyone, she tried to grab Colin's hand. "Colin, come with me over there. Let me introduce my friends to you. They're important figures and undoubtedly helpful for your future career."
