Saving Kinsley
Destined for Pain

Kole's P.O.V

Leaving the room, I rubbed my hands roughly down my face. I was struggling to contain my wolf around her. All he wanted was to mark her. It was so simple in his way, but I didn't want to rush this. I couldn't.

I made my way outside, I just needed to run this off. Passing through the Kitchen, I caught a glimpse of Sienna's brown hair whipping around as she moved throughout the kitchen. "Sienna? When you get a moment would you mind bringing some clothes up to Kinsley?" I asked, considering the possibility of Kinsley wanting to leave the room, and I wouldn't be able to contain myself at the sight of her in my clothes. I rubbed at my face again as flashes of her body hiding just beneath my shirt she was wearing at the moment. It wasn't that I couldn't restrain myself, I'd just rather not have to fight any of my pack mates. There were to many unmated wolves here, and my wolf was growing more over bearing by the minute.

"Of course dear. Go on, breakfast will be done shortly." I nodded my thanks as I passed through, exiting through the sliding glass door.

I shifted into my large brown wolf, and charged into the woods. More images of her passed in front of me, like a personal movie in my head. But she was quickly becoming my favorite film of all time. Her auburn hair cascaded in waves so effortlessly, always touching tan beautiful skin I knew to be the softest I'd ever feel. Gorgeous green eyes complementing her skin, and then there was her lips. Lips I had moments ago made myself familiar with.

If I were in human form right now, I could probably still feel the tingling sensation her plump limps left on mine. A low growl slipped past my lips, I came out here to clear my head and here I was focusing heavily on her.

I was permanently ruined by my ex-mate. I want to give Kinsley time and space to adapt here, but the simple fact that I had been rejected once already sat at the forefront of my mind. My wolf was pushing to claim her now so we wouldn't have to endure it again. I wanted to claim her only if she wanted me. It was honestly frustrating having to convince myself that it wouldn't happen again. That's the point of second chance mates, right?

I let out a huff of air as I shook my head. I looked up and found myself nearing the pack house again. Drawn to where Kinsley was. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Mason stalking my way.

"Sienna sent me to come find you, breakfast is almost ready."

I nodded my head and shifted back, "Great, I'm starving."

"Oh, work up an appetite last night?" Mason wiggled his brows.

Growling, "Not like that."

Mason threw up his hands, "Okay okay. Chill man, I just assumed you guys would've you know- mated by now?"

"No. She needs time. I need it." I spoke quietly as I dressed with my back turned to him. They all knew. I was the Alpha whose mate had rejected him. I closed my eyes and rubbed at my chest. To this day I could still feel the emptiness. But with Kinsley around, it got a little lighter.

Mason and I both found our way towards the kitchen, but what pulled me in that direction was the scent of my mate. She smelled like caramel and warm amber, and it drove me crazy. I stood at the doorway, just watching her. She was the most beautiful woman I ever laid eyes on.

After finishing breakfast, I pulled Kinsley out of the pack house, getting her away from everyone and taking her to the one quiet spot I knew we could have a few moments alone. I wanted to know everything that made her who she is. I held her hand the entire way to the little oasis that grew in the center of my territory. I never wanted to let go of her hand again.

After sitting down, Kinsley began to open up to me. My chest was warming at the thought that she trusted me the slightest amount to even tell me a fraction of her past. I listened intently as she told me of her life in more than one pack, we had that in common.

But then things had taken a dark turn that I wasn't prepared to hear coming from her lips.

"The Alpha, he allowed the lower ranking members to be abused. He willingly turned a blind eye to it. like some of my pack mates, I experienced that abuse. That pack only cared about power, it was never about the bond with pack mates. Only power." She stated it so calmly, and I was anything but calm at hearing this.

"They harmed you?" I all but growled out. I was furious, angry that any Alpha could allow that.

Kinsley nodded slightly, "But I escaped. So did a few others." I watched as she looked over the water, emotions painting a pained expression on her face. She held it in all so well, but she needed to know, that here with me, she didn't need to wear any kind of masks.

I pulled her in to my arms, squeezing enough to relieve any kind of ache she carried in her heart. Her hands wrapped around my arm, "I'm alive though, and so are my friends. That's all that matters now." Her voice was clouded unshed tears, choking on whatever emotions were running through her. I wanted to rid that from her, even if all I could offer her right now was just a hug.

"I'm sorry. I know that doesn't change it but, no one deserves that, my heart hurts for you Kinsley." Knowing what I do now, I could piece it together finally. The scars I had seen on her body weren't accidents, or from battles. They had come from the very people who should've never harmed her. People she should've been able to trust with her life. I tilted her head back and trailed my fingers down her soft jaw line, moving to the base of her neck, the largest one I'd seen on her. "And this?" Was all I could force myself to ask.

"That one is from a Rogue when I escaped that pack the first time." She gave me a small smile, and I didn't miss the fact that she said the first time. I was barely holding in my rage at this point. I wanted to hunt every last member of that pack and rip them apart with my own teeth.

My fingers found the one on her back, by the scarring I could tell it was deep. Probably a wound that took a long time to heal. "This?" I was almost afraid to ask, knowing that it could set me over the edge, push me far enough to where Silas took over and sought out destruction.

"From an attack by multiple wolves. Before the last time I escaped." She didn't offer details, and right now I wouldn't push for them. Her hands shook between us, so I knew this was already almost to much for her.

In a breath, I temporarily shoved my anger back, "You deserve so much more than that Kinsley. You'll never be harmed again." And I meant it. I'd go to the ends of the earth to protect her. Never again would she have to experience anything like that again.

For a while she stayed in my arms, both of us remained quiet as we processed her words. I had every intention of finding them and bringing that pack to its knees. Who ever that Alpha was, was no Alpha in my eyes. An Alpha was meant to protect and lead his pack. Not harm them.

We walked back to the pack house, her hand in mine. Right now, I wanted to sweep her off her feet and carry her in my arms, shield her from the world around us so she'd never be in pain again.

I released her hand when I brought her to my room, "I've got some things to take care of, I'll be back soon." I pressed a kiss to her head, and left to my office.

'Mason my office, now.'

'Yeah, actually, you're needed at the south border.'

I growled, 'Why?'

I could hear Mason sigh through the link, 'You wouldn't believe me, just hurry up.'

I made a sharp right turn instead of going left to my office. "Everything okay Kole?" Sienna cocked her head to the side as I passed through the Kitchen.

"Yeah, I hope." I grumbled.

Sliding the back door open, I stopped dead in my tracks as the link between Mason and I was flooded with panic. I was moments from shifting and racing to the border when a feminine voice drifted to my ears.

"Hello, Kole." I stepped back, Kassandra.
