Jason stiffened slightly at the question as everything began to unfold from the way pack members treated omegas. Over here, there was nothing like ranks. Everyone was treated by the way they carried themselves, and no one was destined to serve. It was only by choice. This was the main reason why he left the pack when the opportunity presented itself. Luckily, his mate was human too, so it all added up, and the only person he missed was his sister, Alice.

"No. Over here, I am a health worker, and I'm treated with respect, so why go back to a community where I am treated like nothing?"

Rowena had just shifted a week ago, so she was missing her wolf. She somehow wanted to see her again. It was her reason for asking the question. If her uncle would, then she could just use it as an opportunity to go there to shift before returning to Canada. "Mom said that things have changed, and omegas are now treated better," Rowena said, hoping it would make a difference.

"But they are still the maids of the pack," Jason insisted grimly. To him, people's destiny should not be determined by the families they were born into. Everyone should be given the chance to do what they wan and choose what they are good at.

"You are right about that one," Rowena could not help but agree.

"Are you planning to go back?" Jason asked her, looking slightly disappointed.

"No, not anymore," Rowena said with certainty, which made him smile before he asked again, "Not even after chalking up the success of being a doctor?"

Rowena stared at her uncle dreamily, recalling how she was received at the airport. No one knew her, and no one gave her a disgusting look like she used to receive at the pack. It felt good to be treated with respect. "Even if I become a president in the human world, I will remain an omega in the pack."

"But the more you stay out of the pack, the more you lose your wolf. You can never shift around here. I mean, you can but you shouldn't. If there is even a slight indication that you are not human, they will begin to hunt you," Jason said in a slightly warning tone.

Rowena pursed her lips. This was the most painful part of her decision. She could not even hear the voice of her wolf again. She heard it just once, the night after her shift in her room when her wolf, Row, asked about their mate as to whether or not they would be accepted. Rowena was nicknamed Row by those close to her, but who knew that her wolf would bear that name? It made it so special for her since most wolves never had names relating to their human ones. “I know, Uncle. I accept that staying in the human world, I can only be human.”

Jason seemed satisfied by her response. She needed to know what she was gaining and losing, and weigh her options before coming to a conclusion. "If you are able to find a husband, you will not have to return ever again," he said, suggesting that she should be open-minded to move on from her past. He just hated how emotionally battered Rowena was before arriving in Canada, but Rowena seemed to have her own plans.

"Uncle, I don't want to have a husband. I just want to be able to help the people who need it when I become a doctor."

Jason smiled. He would always support her, no matter her decision. "That is a wonderful idea," Jason hugged Rowena and spoke.

"Thank you very much, uncle," Rowena said and hugged him back.

8 Years later

"Doctor Row, there is a new patient at the ER. She had a fractured bone through an accident," a nurse informed Rowena, who had just finished attending to a patient. She instantly hastened to the ER with a group of nurses. There was a teenage girl screaming her lungs out by the time Rowena got there. She looked at the girl pitifully and said softly,

"Calm down, my name is Doctor Row. Can you explain the situation?" She was putting on her gloves when she asked and began instructing the nurses on a few things to do.

"I can't feel my legs, and I feel pains all over," the girl cried. However, as soon as Rowena touched her injured leg, she could feel her pains subsiding; she stared at Rowena dazedly. 'Is she an angel or a doctor?'

None of the nurses were surprised by what had happened. It was as if Rowena had a magic touch in her hands to remove seventy percent of the pain her patients felt. "Your injuries are bad, and we shall be administering anesthesia before we work on it," Rowena softly informed the dazed teenager, who regained her senses, realizing that she still could not feel her legs. "Please help me, doctor." "Trust me, you will be fine," Rowena assured her confidently. Injuries like these were nothing to Rowena, and she worked on them very fast. Due to her diligence, she caught the eyes of colleague doctors, senior doctors, and even some billionaires, but Rowena had closed her heart to the chances of any kind of relationship. Her joy was in seeing her patients smile after recovering from any form of injury.

An hour later, there was a call for another emergency. It was always like this. Rowena was an ER doctor, the best of her time. Her patients healed very fast, for which reason she gained popularity in the human world. She knew that her skills were beyond science but never made it known to anyone. She was now the most popular doctor in Canada since she began working for two years after she graduated from medical school.

She'd earned the respect she

deserved, deciding in her last letter

to her mother to never return to the snow mountain pack ever again. Everyone wanted to be in a place where they were needed and not tolerated. Mutual respect was what she called it. Rowena got that in the human world, so why should she return to a pack that will only see her by the rank into which she was born? A rank in which she would never be able to change unless she got married to somebody of a higher

rank.

Rowena sighed defeatedly; she saw her wolf just once before coming here, and she missed her, wishing to see more of her but she was now happy and did not want to lose her newfound happiness.

Gracie had a morning shift while she

had an evening one. She was headed to her apartment which she shared with Gracie. Whenever they had a free, day together, they would go to visit their uncle Jason and his wife. He now tutored at one of the universities and adopted more children since he never had a

biological one. Rowena and Claire helped to take care of these children too, donating a percentage of their income to this worthy cause.

Rowena recalled checking her mail before heading to her room in the apartment block. Her mother's letter had delayed two days, and she was beginning to worry. The last time, she complained she was sick, and Rowena had sent her some medications, but up until now, the woman had not sent her any letter to show whether the prescription worked or not.

She took the elevator to her apartment and decided to eat something light before resting for a while. After making herself a toast with a glass of milk, Gracie walked in. Rowena was surprised since Gracie would leave before she got home. "How come you are here?" She asked, feeling that Gracie must be sick or something of that sort.

"I left my phone," Gracie said and headed upstairs. When she got down the stairs, as if recalling something, she shoved her hand into her handbag. "Hey, I met the mailman on my way up. I think this belongs to you." Rowena lunged at the letter, tearing it instantly with shining eyes as her heart began to sink with every word.

'Row my darling, sorry for the late response. I got the medications you sent me but I'm sorry to say that my symptoms have not improved. It took me three days just to pen this letter and I fear that I will never see you again. I know that you are fine and that is more important. I just want you to know that if you never receive a letter from me again, then I must have given up the ghost. I love you Row, and I respect your decision. to never return to the pack. I am also not strong enough to take a flight to meet you. Don't worry, I'm already old, and no one will miss me in this pack except Jaxon. He takes good care of me every day and I have already told him that I can't make it. Take good care of yourself, Row, and continue saving lives. From your only mom.'

Gracie was at the door. "Row, I said I was leaving." There was no response but a tear slipped down Rowena's cheeks, and Gracie grew worried. For eight years, her mother never sent a letter without including Jaxon's name. Rowena felt like a bad daughter. Her mother gave her life but she was pursuing her dreams and not thinking enough about her sick mother.

"Row, what is the problem?" Gracie's voice pulled her out of her thoughts. Rowena dazedly passed the letter to her and began to walk upstairs, leaving her food untouched. Gracie read through it and ran up the stairs after Rowena. Seeing Rowena so helplessly on the bed, she was lost and did not know how to comfort her. "You know she will live if you go to take care of her, right?"

Gracie knew that Rowena's healing abilities might be her gift from the moon goddess, for which reason he suggested it, but Rowena was still deflated, saying, "I already sent medications which did not work." Gracie chuckled and responded, "You might fool everyone, but you and I know that your healing ability has nothing to do with science. It's all about the touch of your hands."

"What will it matter? The thought of that pack brings back painful memories, and she has refused to join me here. I could take very good care of her, you know? Money is not a problem for us, right?" Rowena asked helplessly. They were very well-to-do, giving to charity, but her mother had refused to take anything from her, always saying that Jaxon gave her everything.

"Right, but your mum has lived in the pack all her life. She would never be able to endure imprisoning her wolf like us," Gracie revealed. Rowena felt ashamed for not having considered that fact. Indeed, her mother had spent all her life in the pack, and letting out her wolf was one of the things that made her strong and kept her going so how could Rowena take that from her?

"You are right," Rowena agreed. Gracie smiled and asked, "So, what are you saying? That we go back?"
