Chapter Twenty–Two: Who is the sultch?

“I didn’t send that, Angela.”

“What do you mean you didn’t send that? Then why did Evans send this to me, telling me about how depressed he had been since he saw it?”

“This is weird; who is doing this to me?”

“I don’t know, but we have to find out.”

“Good morning, Mrs. Regina.”

“It’s Mrs. Regina now.”

“So sorry, ma’am. You have an appointment with Dr. Pepper John McCain today at 10:00 a.m. and with the real estate manager, Mrs. Clinton.” Jane said as she walked into my office and dropped a pile of files on my desk.

“Okay, thank you.” I let out a big sigh as I fixed my eyes on my phone screen.

“Are you okay, ma’am?” Jane couldn’t help but notice the worried look written all over my face. Something was definitely wrong, and right now all I needed was a friend and not a work assistant.

Jane walked towards where I was seated and placed her arms over my shoulder.

“What’s wrong, ma’am? I have noticed your mood has not been cheerful since you walked in today; has there been any success with the culprit that leaked the video??” She caressed my shoulders softly.

“It doesn’t just add up. Someone leaked that video, and now someone has hacked into my phone, sending Evans a message–a message I can’t find on my phone. Has the tech guy gotten back to you?”

“Yes, he has still not found a link to who might have done this. But I’m positive that he will find something. Just calm down, ma’am. Congratulations on your divorce, ma’am. And I almost forgot someone dropped this off for you.” She handed me a parcel.

“Who is it from?”

“I can’t say there was no name on it.”

“Hmm.”

“Do you think it’s from a secret admirer?” She said this as she got to the table.

“A secret admirer?” I asked.

“Yes, a card was attached to it, but there was no name description on the card.” She replied and handed over the card and bag of goodies to me.

“Do you think it’s from him?” Jane asked again.

Chapter Twenty–Two: Who is the snitch?

“I don’t know; he has still reached out to me.”

“What does the card say?” Jane asked.

I read out the words from the card: “FOR YOU, MY LOVE.”

“Just those words?” Jane asked with a confused look on her face.

Yes,”

“Whoever sent this clearly knows what chocolate I like.”

Thanks anyway for this, but I’m not doing lunch.” I said that and went back to the laptop.

“Really, I can have all of this.” Jane asked with her eyes widening.

I moved my eyes back to the laptop, but my thoughts did not leave the gifts. Could Evans be the anonymous lover? But he never sends gifts anonymously, and why had he not texted or returned my calls? He surely must be really angry. I knew I should do something about it.

I had already given up on receiving any calls from Evans by the time my phone bleeped. I almost jumped on my toes on seeing that it was a text from Evans.

“I don’t know what’s going on. But I’m sorry for what happened the other day and not replying to your texts or calls. I have been in my head lately; let me make it up to you. I reserved a spot for us at Villa Palace for a dinner date tomorrow night.”

I tried to hold back the joy after reading through the text as I quickly put a call through to Angela; she should be the first to hear about this.

“He finally texted,” I said as I heard the phone connect.

“Oh, really?”

“I’m so happy he did; earlier, I received a card and a pack of food, including my favorite chocolate. Jane said it wasn’t labeled. He wants us to go on a date tomorrow night. I haven’t responded to it, though.”

“You should definitely go on this date; maybe he’ll finally tell you about his personal life and his. family.”

“And about that text, yeah, I think I should go; I miss him so much already.” I grinned from ear to ear.

“Did he say he sent those food and cards?” Angela asked.

“No, he didn’t say.”

“It’s alright; I should get your dress already for tomorrow night.”

“Don’t be silly, Angela, but thanks anyway. I have to go now; lunch time is almost over.”

“Alright, talk to you later, girl.”

I walked out, meeting Jane munching on the pack of food.

“Oh God, I’m famished. I just realized I have only had a cup of coffee for the day.” I laugh slowly now.

“Yeah, you should probably get something to eat; I’ll cover it up for you. I feel bad already for eating this.” Jane said it amidst laughter.

“It’s okay; like I said, you can have it all, and I’m the boss; there isn’t any covering up for me.” We laughed out loud.

After the day’s work, I thought it wise to go get a dinner date dress from a boutique before getting home. Even if Angela had promised to do that, I still needed the shopping, and lately, I had been asking her for lots of favors. I didn’t want to bug her with an extra favor.

D’ville la Classique was one of the best classic boutiques in the state. It has been there for over two decades and has the best classic wear for both males and females. A dress there could cost a fortune, but I didn’t mind; I wanted to look my best for Evans. A few steps into the boutique, I was stunned by the sight of a black, stylish long gown that had a slit by the side and had these sparkles that glittered under the bright lights.

“This is gorgeous and should cost a fortune.” I thought.

“I’m definitely getting it.” I got a pair of matching shoes for the dress and a gold–plated Rolex watch as a gift for Evans. At the end of my shopping, I felt fulfilled and drove home with this date on my mind.

The time finally came, in my elegant look, as I walked into the Villa Palace restaurant that Evans had picked for our date. It was an exquisite place where top–class people spent most of their evenings. I spotted Evans at a reserved table as soon as I stepped in. He looked just perfect for the evening in his oxblood suit with a camel necktie and a filler, and his well–permed hair parted by the side made him look more astonishing.

As I walked towards Evans, I noticed his eyes on me; he clearly gaped at me.

“Regina, that’s Regina.” Two women walked towards me.

“Hello.”

“We love what you did; most women would not have the courage to stand up to a man like that. But your bravery clearly shows you are different, and you have given us hope.”

Thank you,” I smiled, clearly showing that standing up to Thomas was all it took to gain more love from women. A lot of women silently went through sh*t and kept quiet as they had no one to fight for them.

“Can we take a picture?”

Yeah, sure,” I struck a pose with the ladies, and soon they were gone. This was certainly the beginning of something.
