Chapter 1291

"Don't say that. This is all my fault. It's my bad. I'm sorry...” Anne sobbed, her tears blurring the sight of everything before her.

“Lucas...has he done something wrong?” Joanne asked. She knew that what was happening had something to do with Lucas's feelings for Anne, but did not know the details of the recent events. “He did do something, but he only did so with good intention. It wasn't wrong...” Anne could barely breath with the pain spreading across her chest.

Both Lucas and Anne could not possibly have been wrong, Anthony was merely a monster and crossing a monster could never end well.

“Mrs. Newman, I will talk to Anthony. Don't worry.”

"Okay. Thank you, Anne.”

Anne hung up and froze in place dazedly. She had thought that the Newmans would survive this crisis and that Corentin would be able to deliver good news, so she called Corentin and asked, “Uncle, how are things? I heard that the Pinnacle Academy is closing down. Is there no way at all?” “I reached out to my connections, but Anthony is too powerful. My sources told me that Anthony is determined to destroy the academy this time. Anne, you should stay out of it,” Corentin said. "How can I stay out of it? Anthony is destroying the academy because of me!” Anne could bear with all the suffering, but not when she had caused others to suffer.

“I can't help you.”

"...Alright. I will figure something else out...” She hung up, her heart sinking in despair.

In the end, she was left with the option to beg for Anthony's mercy, which was terrifying on its own, but she had to try.

Joanne had never sought her help no matter what happened to the Pinnacle Academy in the past, and the fact that she had made an exception this time meant that the situation could not be worse. "Mama?"

Anne immediately calmed herself when she heard her children’s voices and wiped her tears, before turning around to face the triplets, who were looking at her in confusion.

"What's wrong?” Anne asked, “You want me to play with you?”

“Is Pinnacle closing down?” Chloe asked.

Anne's heart sank and realized that the triplets had overheard her on the phone. Unsure of what to say, she said, “It's fine. The academy is going to be fine.” She paused for a moment, before reminding, “Don't talk about this to your Papa. I will figure something out.”

The triplets were far too young to be worried about this, as no one but Anthony had the power to alter the outcome.

At around five, Mia, who had been paying attention to the outside, heard a car approaching.

A black Rolls Loyce appeared in the Royal Mansion and Mia immediately headed outside to greet Anthony.

As Anthony was walking into the mansion, Mia took the opportunity to speak to him.” Welcome back, Mr. Marwood. Mrs. Marwood seems to be in a bad mood today. I think she got a call from someone.”

Anthony stilled and glanced at Mia coldly.

Mia kept her head bowed. “Mrs. Marwood was crying, too. I didn't hear what she said on the phone, though.”

"Where is she?” Anthony questioned sharply.

“In the backyard with the children,” Mia said.

When she looked up, she noticed that Anthony was already heading toward the backyard and felt proud of being able to cause trouble for Anne; she was determined to alert Anthony whatever she saw in the mansion from this point onward.

“Papa is back!”

Anne turned around and saw Anthony walking over. Her eyes darted away as her mind drifted to focus on matters concerning the Pinnacle Academy.

“Papa!” Chloe leaped her way over and opened her arms to demand a hug.

Anthony lifted her up and propped an arm underneath to secure her. “Have you been good during your lessons today?”

“We have!” Chloe chirped

Anthony turned to stare at Anne pointedly. “What about your mama?”

Anne kept her head bowed without responding.

“Mama has been good, too!” Chloe chuckled.

It seemed to be a fun topic to discuss for the children, but not for Anne as nothing would enrage Anthony more than her “not being good’.

“Mama has been playing ball with us!” Chris said.

Anthony set Chloe down. “Wash your hands. Food will be ready soon.”

"Okay!" The triplets followed the servants to the front door, while Anne stood her ground, feeling intimidated by Anthony's presence.

She used to be in love with the man before her, but he had exhausted the last feelings she had for him. As soon as he appeared, she would feel as though she had sunk into the ocean with no hope of ever seeing the lights again.

"What did you do today?” Anthony stared at her intently.

“The kids told you, didn't they? We were playing,” Anne said, feeling as though she was being suffocated when the look in Anthony's eyes darkened. “I didn’t do anything.”

"Who called you?”

Anne jolted in shock and thought to herself, “he bugged my phone? No way. I've changed my phone and there's nothing suspicious about the one I have right now. Ashlynn taught me that it would be safe as long as I do a factory reset on it, which means someone else is spying on me for Anthony.’

“Joanne Newman called and told me that the Pinnacle Academy is closing down tomorrow. She wanted to seek my help.” Anne had wanted to mention this at night after she offered her body to Anthony as she felt that he might be more willing to listen once he was satisfied.

She unlocked her phone and showed Anthony the contact history of four missed calls from Joanne and the one call Anne made to Joanne.

“This is it,” Anne said.

"Get back inside,” he said, before turning to leave.

“Master...” Anne called out. “Are you really shutting the Pinnacle Academy down? Is it really necessary to go that far? You could have just scared Lucas a bit and called it a day.”

Anthony turned around with a dark expression. “Are you saying that I did all these

just to scare him? I'm not that bored.”

Anne walked up to him and grabbed his arm. “Master, just let it go, okay? If the Pinnacle Academy closes down, a lot of children would miss out on the opportunity for getting educated. The triplets attended that school before, too!”

Anthony glared at her emotionlessly. “I thought you weren't going to mention this again?”

“I... just think that it's a shame to destroy such a great school,” Anne said.

“It's not. Have you forgotten about the school I'm investing in?"
