Chapter 1276

“I've never once said that Meredith was mine, nor have I announced that she’s my fiance. It was nothing but a feast. Did you take it seriously?” Corentin stared down at Beth.

Meredith's face burnt with embarrassment as though she had been slapped in the face.

"Corentin, how could you say that? You came to dinner with me just to use me?” she asked. Corentin remained quiet.

Meredith turned and stormed out while Aunt Cher hurried after her.

“Corentin, Ashlynn isn't who she used to be. She is our adopted daughter and a part of our family right now. You have no right to take her,” Marshall said.

“You want to take her with you? Over my dead body!” Beth said fiercely.

The fear within Ashlynn transformed into pure disbelief as she wondered if Beth was doing such a thing for Meredith's sake. After all, nothing good would happen to Meredith if Ashlynn agreed to leave with Corentin.

“Are you sure you are not leaving?” Corentin questioned darkly.

Her heart raced as she struggled to think. She did not want to return to Corentin’s side, and if it was possible, she never wanted to see him ever again, but she was not certain if hiding with the Hiltons would work forever.

“Is this my chance of escaping his control?’ she thought.

“Don't bother threatening her. Even if she wants to leave, I won't let her,” Beth said.

“Very well.” He gave one final cold look to Ashlynn before turning to leave.

The two words he gritted out drained Ashlynn of all her strength.

As soon as Corentin left, Beth hurried up the stairs and broke down in tears once she was inside the bedroom.

Marshall went in after her and wrapped his arm around her shoulder to console her. He knew that it had been torture not to tell Ashlynn the truth and that the things that they had done to their daughter would haunt them forever.

“The gods showed mercy and sent my daughter back to me, and what have I done. with it? We can't let her go back to Corentin. Not even if I die!” she wailed.

"Of course not. No one will hurt our baby ever again.”

Ashlynn remained standing dazedly until after Marshall and Beth returned to their room, unable to wrap her head around what had just happened

Due to the Hiltons’ interference, Corentin had not been able to take her with him

“Does this mean that he won't be able to do so from now on as well? No matter the reason, at the very least... I'm safe right now,’ she thought.

Jeremy tapped her on the forehead. “Well? I said I will protect you, didn't 1?”

Ashlynn covered her forehead with a pout before laughing. “Thank you.”

“Don’t thank me. I am the one who should thank you!”

“Why?”

Jeremy wanted to thank her for staying alive and coming home to them but decided against it and instead said, “Come on, I'll take you to your room.” Jeremy threw his arm around her shoulder and led her up the stairs.

Her room had been moved from the first floor to the second floor.

When Aunt Cher returned to the living room and saw the two heading up, her expression darkened. This Ashlynn sure has tricks up her sleeves if she can get everyone to protect her. What happened? I see. It is probably because Jeremy likes her. What a wh*re!" Aunt Cher thought.
